Our Top Recommended Big Brake Upgrade Kits For Your Honda Civic Type R FN2
A customer rang this week about a 2010 Type R. He runs 19 inch Lightnings, the car never sees a track day, and he wanted a Brembo big brake kit. So we went through every listing we have for his car, and here is the honest position: we do not have a Brembo that fits an FN2. Both of the Brembo Civic Type R kits we sell are cut for the EP3, and they say so themselves.
Tarox fill that gap completely. They list four kits specifically for the FN2 Type R by name, three fronts and a rear, so there is no guesswork about whether they suit the car. That is what this guide is about.
- Four Tarox kits listed for the FN2 by name, from £1,986.49 inc VAT
- Every one is a complete kit with pads and braided hoses in the box
- On 19 inch wheels, clearance rules nothing out
- The 318mm costs £33.51 more than the 300mm

Why there is no Brembo on this page
Worth dealing with first, because it is the question that started this. Brembo do a Gran Turismo kit for the Civic Type R and it is a lovely thing. It is also an EP3 kit. Both of the ones we list state their own fitment as 2002 to 2006, which is the previous generation car, and Brembo’s own application list goes the same way.
So if you have an FN2 and somebody has quoted you a Brembo GT kit for it, ask them which car the part number is cut for before you pay. We would rather tell you that now than take the order.
Tarox list your car by name
Not "Civic", not "Type R", but Honda Civic FN2 Type R on the listing itself. Four kits, three front and one rear. When a maker names the chassis code, the fitment conversation is already over.
Built in northern Italy
Calipers CNC machined from billet alloy, hand assembled and individually tested. Discs heat treated, CNC faced and balanced to 0.05mm. Thirty years of the Sport range behind it. Tarox publish a clearance template if you want to check your spokes yourself.
Your wheels rule nothing out
Most guides in this series are really about wheel clearance, because the wheel usually decides the kit. On 19 inch Lightnings that is not your problem. Every kit below clears comfortably, so for once you get to choose on merit instead of on what fits.
Tarox publish a minimum wheel size per kit, and these are theirs, not a figure we have worked out from the disc.
| Kit | Disc | Smallest wheel | On 19s |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tarox 300mm front | 300mm | 16 inch | Clears |
| Tarox 318mm front | 318mm | 17 inch | Clears |
| Tarox 330mm front | 330mm | 17 inch | Clears |
| Tarox 310mm rear | 310mm | 17 inch | Clears |
Tarox 300mm Sport: the way in
The smallest of the three fronts and the cheapest, at £1,986.49 inc VAT. It is a complete kit: six piston B32 billet calipers, two piece floating discs on anodised alloy bells, machined alloy brackets, vehicle specific braided hoses and Corsa pads already fitted to the calipers.
It is also the only one of the three that will go behind a 16 inch wheel, which matters if the car ever goes back to smaller rims for winter. On your 19s that advantage is worth nothing, which is why the next kit up is the interesting one.
- £1,986.49 inc VAT, one complete front kit
- 300 x 26mm two piece floating discs
- B32 six piston billet calipers
- Minimum wheel 16 inch
- Pads and braided hoses included
Tarox 318mm Sport: the one we would buy
Here is the reason this guide exists. The 318mm kit is £2,020.00 inc VAT. That is £33.51 more than the 300mm, for 18mm more disc. The price ladder on this car does not follow the disc size, and when a step up costs about the same as a tank of fuel, there is no argument for the smaller one.
Everything else is identical: same B32 calipers, same two piece construction, same pads and hoses in the box. You are buying more leverage and more surface area to soak up heat, and Garreth’s view is that on a fast road car this is where the money stops working harder.
- £2,020.00 inc VAT, one complete front kit
- 318 x 26mm two piece floating discs
- Only £33.51 over the 300mm kit
- Minimum wheel 17 inch
- Pads and braided hoses included
Tarox 330mm Sport: the biggest front kit
The largest disc Tarox list for the FN2, at £2,280.00 inc VAT. That is £260.00 over the 318mm, and this time the step is real money for 12mm more disc.
If the car did track days we would be pushing you at it, because that is where the extra thermal capacity earns its keep. For a road car that never gets the brakes properly hot, you are buying unsprung weight you will feel at every pothole and heat capacity you will never reach. It is the right kit for a different car.
- £2,280.00 inc VAT, one complete front kit
- 330 x 26mm two piece floating discs
- £260.00 over the 318mm kit
- Minimum wheel 17 inch
- Pads and braided hoses included
Tarox 310mm rear: the one people forget
A rear kit is a different animal and it is worth understanding before you add it. At £1,179.60 inc VAT you get a pair of handed two piece 310 x 9.0mm discs and a pair of CNC machined relocation brackets that move your original calipers out to suit the bigger disc.
So it keeps your own calipers and pads, the handbrake carries on working normally, and the ABS and ESP are untouched. It is a balance and a looks upgrade more than a stopping power one. Most people do the front first and come back for this later, which is exactly the right order.
- £1,179.60 inc VAT, complete rear axle, both sides
- 310 x 9.0mm solid two piece discs
- Runs your original calipers and pads
- Handbrake, ABS and ESP all unaffected
- Minimum wheel 17 inch
What is actually in the box
Worth reading before you compare a Tarox price against anybody else’s, because the kits are not specced the same way across the industry. A lot of makers quote a caliper and a disc and leave you to buy the rest.

|---|---|
| Calipers | B32 six piston, billet aluminium, hand assembled and tested in Italy. Black, red, blue, green or gold. |

Common questions
Can you get me a Brembo kit for an FN2 anyway?
Not one that Brembo list for the car. Their Civic Type R Gran Turismo kit is an EP3 fitment and we are not going to sell you a kit cut for a different generation and hope. If you have seen one advertised for an FN2 elsewhere, it is worth asking whose calipers and whose discs are in it, because several of those are assemblies built from parts off other cars.
Which kit for a road car that never sees a track?
The 318mm. It is £33.51 over the smallest kit and it is the last point on the ladder where the money is still doing obvious work. The 330mm is a better kit in the absolute sense and a worse buy for a road car.
Will these fit behind my 19 inch wheels?
On diameter, comfortably, every one of them. The part we still want to check is the spoke clearance, because that is down to your particular wheel and not to the car. Tell us the make and model of the wheel and we will confirm it before anything is built.
Do I need the rear kit as well?
No, and most people do not start there. The front does the overwhelming majority of the braking. The rear disc kit is about balance and appearance, it runs your original calipers and pads, and it can be added any time.
Will it upset the ABS or the traction control?
No. Tarox state their kits are compatible with ABS, ESP and modern driver aids, and the rear kit specifically keeps the standard handbrake working because it relocates your own caliper instead of replacing it.
What we would actually fit
On a road going FN2 on 19s: the Tarox 318mm front kit at £2,020.00 inc VAT, and nothing else needed on day one. It is a complete kit, the pads and hoses are in the box, and the thirty three pounds over the smaller kit is the easiest upgrade decision on this page.
Come back for the rear discs when you fancy them. If the car ever starts doing track evenings, ring us before you book one and we will talk about whether the 330mm is worth the change.
Garreth and Cameron are on 0115 9893488. Tell us the wheel as well as the car and we will have the clearance checked before you commit to anything.
