Our Top Recommended Big Brake Upgrade Kits For Your Volkswagen Scirocco

HiSpec list one kit for the Scirocco. Tarox list seven. That is not an oversight on HiSpec’s part: the 278mm Billet 4 covers the car well at its price point and the higher disc sizes in the Scirocco range are all Tarox applications. This page covers the kits Garreth and Cameron would actually recommend, starting from the HiSpec entry point and working up through the Tarox Sport and Super Sport options. Brembo have one kit for the car too, covered further down.

Two pricing quirks are worth flagging before you get into the picks. The Tarox 320mm Sport lists at £2,001 inc VAT, which puts it below the 318mm Sport at £2,050 despite being a bigger disc. Higher up the range, the Tarox 345mm Super Sport at £2,190 lists below the 330mm Sport at £2,280, a larger disc with a better caliper for less money. Both are live prices on the site. The pages below flag each one in context. The full Scirocco brake kit range is on site if you want to compare everything at once, and we stock three brands: Tarox and Brembo from Italy, and HiSpec Motorsport from Dartford.

  • Brembo now list one kit for the Scirocco: 330mm GT-A, £1,834 inc VAT, four pistons, pads and lines included, six to eight weeks from Italy
  • HiSpec catalogue has one Scirocco kit; the rest of the range is Tarox, seven options up to 360mm
  • Tarox 300mm and 318mm are 1.8 GT bracket applications; confirm your engine variant before ordering
  • Tarox kits include pads and braided hoses already fitted; HiSpec price theirs separately
  • The Tarox 320mm currently lists below the 318mm: £2,001 vs £2,050
  • The Tarox 345mm Super Sport currently lists below the 330mm Sport: £2,190 vs £2,280
  • The Super Sport title says 10pot; the actual caliper is the B34GT with 8 sequential pistons

A Scirocco R on circuit. The wide front end and deep chin make this a cleaner fitment for big calipers than the standard arches suggest. Brembo now cover this car too, one kit from £1,834.

Three brands, three ways of building a brake kit

Tarox and HiSpec both machine their own calipers from billet aluminium. Brembo’s GT-A is a production caliper from their OE programme. In all three cases the kit is built to the specific car; the main differences are what arrives in the box and how long you wait.

IT

Tarox

Made at the Tarox factory in northern Italy. Calipers are CNC machined from European billet alloy and hand assembled, discs are heat treated and hand balanced to 0.05mm. Every Scirocco kit arrives with vehicle-specific braided hoses and Corsa pads already fitted, and Tarox state full compatibility with ABS and ESP. Caliper colours: black, red, blue, green or gold.

UK

HiSpec Motorsport

Machined in Dartford from 6082 T6 billet aluminium. Every kit is made to order in up to 28 working days, with calipers available in black, red, blue, gold or silver. Pads and braided hoses are priced separately, so you pick the compound that matches how the car is used.

IT

Brembo

Built in Bergamo, Italy, where Brembo supply calipers to car manufacturers and racing teams. The GT-A four-piston caliper in this kit is a production unit from the same product range. Pads and braided lines come in the box. Lead time is six to eight weeks, made to order. Caliper colours: black, red or silver.

Wheel sizes across the range

HiSpec publish wheel size data across the catalogue. Tarox figures come from the tarox.com kit pages for each Scirocco application. The 312mm Sport has no live kit page and the minimum wheel is not confirmed: give Cameron the wheel spec and we will run it through Tarox before ordering.

Give Cameron the wheel make, model and offset alongside the diameter and he will check spoke clearance before anything gets ordered. Tarox publish a clearance template at tarox.com/en/tarox-brake-kit-fitting-guide/ if you want to measure first.

HiSpec 278mm Billet 4: the entry kit

The Billet 4 is HiSpec’s road caliper: four pistons, twin-lip seals, built for hard road use and track days. It clears a 15-inch wheel, which is the widest minimum wheel clearance on this page, meaning it fits the full wheel range the Scirocco ever wore from the factory. The disc is listed as 278mm in the product title. One note: the product description references a 285mm disc in the body text. We are treating the title as authoritative; confirm with us before ordering if that matters for your setup.

For a Scirocco on standard or near-standard wheels that sees occasional track days and regular spirited road use, this is where Garreth would start the conversation. Pads and hoses are priced separately, so you choose the compound to match how the car is driven.

  • £1,012 inc VAT
  • Clears 15-inch wheels
  • 278mm two-piece floating disc (title figure)
  • Billet 4 piston caliper, 6082 T6 billet aluminium
  • Pads and hoses priced separately, your choice of compound
  • Made to order in Dartford, up to 28 working days, five caliper colours

Tarox 300mm Sport: 1.8 GT bracket application

The 300mm Sport is listed as a 1.8 GT fitment. The bracket geometry is specific to that engine variant, so confirm your Scirocco is the 1.8 GT before ordering. The kit clears a 16-inch wheel, one step wider than the HiSpec entry, and uses a six-piston caliper. Disc thickness is 26mm.

At £1,990 inc VAT, this is the lowest-priced Tarox Sport option for the Scirocco and the only one that clears 16-inch wheels. For a 1.8 GT on mid-size alloys that wants the Tarox bundle (pads and hoses already in the box), this is the natural starting point. Garreth’s case for it over the HiSpec at this level is the complete delivery: braided hoses matched to the car and Corsa pads are fitted and ready, not a separate order.

  • £1,990 inc VAT (1.8 GT bracket application)
  • Clears 16-inch wheels
  • 300mm disc, 26mm thick, six-piston caliper
  • Vehicle-specific braided hoses and Corsa pads included and fitted
  • Caliper colours: black, red, blue, green or gold
  • ABS and ESP compatible

Tarox 318mm Sport: 1.8 GT, 17-inch step

The 318mm Sport is also a 1.8 GT bracket application. The disc is 318mm but only 24mm thick, 2mm thinner than the 300mm kit. That is bracket geometry, not a specification error: the 318mm bracket holds the caliper at a different position which determines the disc thickness, not just the diameter. Both figures are correct for their application.

This kit needs a 17-inch wheel, one step up from the 300mm. At £2,050 inc VAT it is the pricier of the two 1.8 GT Sport kits, by £60. The 320mm Sport below lists at £2,001 despite being a larger disc, so if the 1.8 GT fitment is not a hard requirement, that comparison is worth making before ordering. Ring us with your spec and Cameron will straighten it out.

  • £2,050 inc VAT (1.8 GT bracket application)
  • Requires 17-inch wheels
  • 318mm disc, 24mm thick, six-piston caliper
  • Vehicle-specific braided hoses and Corsa pads included and fitted
  • Caliper colours: black, red, blue, green or gold
  • ABS and ESP compatible

Tarox 320mm Sport: 17 inches, cheaper than the 318mm

The 320mm Sport is not a 1.8 GT-specific application. It also needs 17-inch wheels. The pricing is the one thing to read before you compare: this kit lists at £2,001 inc VAT, £49 less than the 318mm Sport at £2,050. The disc is larger and the price is lower. That is the live pricing on the site and it does not follow the usual size progression. Garreth’s read is the two kits carry different bracket tooling costs, which can move the price in either direction independent of the disc diameter.

For a Scirocco on 17-inch alloys where the engine is not the 1.8 GT, or where the 1.8 GT fitment is not confirmed, this is the pick at the 17-inch level. You get a bigger disc for less money than the 318mm and pads plus hoses arrive in the box.

  • £2,001 inc VAT (lists below the 318mm Sport at £2,050)
  • Requires 17-inch wheels
  • 320mm disc, six-piston caliper
  • Vehicle-specific braided hoses and Corsa pads included and fitted
  • Caliper colours: black, red, blue, green or gold
  • ABS and ESP compatible

Tarox 345mm Super Sport: the better-value flagship

The 345mm Super Sport is the top pick for a Scirocco on 17-inch wheels. Two things to know before ordering. First, the caliper: the product title says 10pot. The actual caliper is the B34GT, which runs eight sequential pistons. That is confirmed in the kit description and on the Tarox website. The title has not been corrected yet and we are flagging it. The kit specification is correct; only the title is wrong.

Second, the price. The 345mm Super Sport lists at £2,190 inc VAT. The 330mm Sport lists at £2,280. A larger disc with a better caliper for £90 less than the disc below it. That is the live pricing and it will be corrected in time, but right now this is the better buy at the top of the 17-inch range. Pads and hoses are in the box, already fitted.

  • £2,190 inc VAT (lists below the 330mm Sport at £2,280)
  • Requires 17-inch wheels
  • 345mm disc, B34GT caliper with 8 sequential pistons (title says 10pot: that is incorrect)
  • Vehicle-specific braided hoses and Corsa pads included and fitted
  • Caliper colours: black, red, blue, green or gold
  • ABS and ESP compatible

Brembo 330mm GT-A: four pistons from Italy

The GT-A is Brembo’s entry caliper, a two-piece four-piston unit designed for road cars used on track. For the Scirocco the kit is a 330mm cross-drilled 1-piece disc paired with the GT-A caliper, plus mounting brackets, braided lines and pads in the box.

At £1,834 inc VAT it sits below every Tarox option on this page. The trade is the lead time: six to eight weeks made to order in Italy. Tarox lead times are shorter; that matters if the car has a track day on the calendar.

Wheel clearance is not a standard figure for this kit. The product page carries Brembo’s own caliper clearance drawing with the A, B and C dimensions you need. Give Cameron a call on 0115 647 8650 with your wheel make, model, size and offset before ordering and he will read those numbers against your wheels.

  • £1,834 inc VAT
  • 330mm 1-piece disc, cross-drilled
  • 4-piston GT-A caliper, two-piece aluminium
  • Pads, braided lines and mounting hardware included
  • Six to eight weeks, made to order in Italy
  • Caliper colour: black, red or silver (set at order)
  • Wheel clearance: Brembo caliper drawing on the product page

If the car is on 18s

One Tarox application runs to 18-inch wheels on the Scirocco: the 360mm Super Sport. Same B34GT caliper as the 345mm (eight sequential pistons, title says 10pot), larger disc, and a bigger jump in price: £3,210 inc VAT. If the car is already on 18-inch aftermarket rims and you want the top Tarox application for the Scirocco, this is it. Check spoke clearance with Cameron before ordering.

What is actually in each box

The headline prices sit closer together than they look once you add pads and hoses to the HiSpec kits. HiSpec price their kits without those components and you choose the compound. Tarox include both, already fitted when the kit arrives. Compare the full build cost before deciding on price alone.

(*) Tarox 320mm lists below the 318mm despite being a larger disc. (**) Tarox 345mm Super Sport lists below the 330mm Sport; the Super Sport is the larger disc with the better caliper. Common questions

Does the Tarox 300mm or 318mm fit any Scirocco, or only the 1.8 GT?

Both the 300mm Sport and the 318mm Sport are listed as 1.8 GT bracket applications. The bracket is specific to that engine variant and will not fit a different engine's mounting points. If your Scirocco is not the 1.8 GT, or you are unsure, ring us with the registration and we will confirm the correct application before anything gets ordered.

Why is the 320mm Sport cheaper than the 318mm?

The 320mm Sport lists at £2,001 inc VAT and the 318mm lists at £2,050. The two kits use different bracket tooling for different mounting points and the tooling cost does not track directly with disc diameter. Both prices are correct on the site. If that changes, we update the listing.

The 345mm Super Sport says 10pot in the title. Is that right?

It is not right. The caliper on the Super Sport kits is the B34GT, which runs eight sequential pistons. The title has not been corrected yet and we are aware of it. The kit specification, disc size and caliper designation in the product description are correct. Never take a piston count from a Super Sport title.

Why is the 345mm Super Sport cheaper than the 330mm Sport?

The 345mm Super Sport lists at £2,190 and the 330mm Sport lists at £2,280. The Super Sport carries a different caliper and a different disc, and the pricing does not always follow the disc size order. Both are live prices. Ring us if you want to confirm the current figures before committing.

What wheel size do I need for the Tarox 312mm Sport?

The 312mm Sport has no live product page on tarox.com at present and the minimum wheel size is not confirmed. Give Cameron a call with your wheel make, model, size and offset and he will run it through Tarox. Spoke clearance matters as much as diameter at this caliper size, so have the full wheel spec ready.

How long does delivery take?

HiSpec kits are made to order in Dartford and take up to 28 working days. Tarox kits are built in Italy and lead times vary through the year, so ask when you order. Brembo kits are also made to order in Italy, six to eight weeks. Tarox state full ABS and ESP compatibility on all Scirocco kits. For HiSpec, let us know the exact car and spec and we will confirm ABS compatibility before the build goes in.

What wheel size does the Brembo 330mm GT-A need?

Brembo do not publish a standard minimum wheel size for this kit. The product page carries Brembo's own caliper clearance drawing with the A, B and C dimensions. Ring Cameron on 0115 647 8650 with your wheel make, model, size and offset before ordering and he will run those numbers for you.

What we would actually fit

For a Scirocco on standard or factory-size wheels, Garreth’s starting point is the HiSpec 278mm Billet 4. Wide wheel clearance, one complete front kit, pads and hoses your choice. For the 1.8 GT on 16-inch alloys that wants everything sorted in one delivery, the Tarox 300mm Sport is the next step: six pistons, pads and hoses already in the box.

On 17-inch wheels, the Tarox 345mm Super Sport is the pick. It is a bigger disc than the 330mm with a better caliper at a lower price, and the pads and hoses are included. The pricing anomaly is in your favour here. If the 330mm 1.8 GT application is a hard requirement, ring us and we will sort the spec before ordering.

If lead time is not a barrier, the Brembo 330mm GT-A is worth considering. It sits below every Tarox on this page, four pistons, pads and lines included, and it is the only Brembo application available for this car. Wheel clearance is the one thing to confirm before ordering: give Cameron a call on 0115 647 8650 with the full wheel spec and he will check the clearance drawing before anything gets ordered.

On 18s, the Tarox 360mm Super Sport is the only option in the range and it is a serious kit: 360mm, B34GT caliper, £3,210 inc VAT. For a properly built Scirocco where brakes are a genuine priority, it fits the brief. Spoke clearance needs confirming before it gets ordered, so give Cameron a call on 0115 647 8650 with the full wheel spec.
