Our Top Recommended Big Brake Upgrade Kits For Your Volkswagen Passat MK2
The Passat MK2 has seven Tarox kits. No HiSpec coverage. Three disc sizes: 300mm, 318mm and 330mm. Before disc size comes engine, because three separate kits sit at 318mm. Two of them (KMVW0127) cover the 1.8 and 2.0 16V four-cylinder engines. The third (KMVW0131) is built for the 2.8 VR6, which runs a different front hub from the four-cylinders. All three need 17-inch wheels and all three cost £2,050.00 inc VAT. The difference is bracket geometry: ordering the wrong 318mm kit means it will not fit.
The prices on this car follow the disc sizes, which is not always the case in the Tarox catalogue. The 300mm Sport at £1,989.79 inc VAT is the entry point and fits 16-inch wheels. The 318mm step costs £2,050.00. The 330mm is the top of the range at £2,280.00 inc VAT. Nothing runs backwards. The full Passat MK2 range is on the site if you want to browse it.
- Seven Tarox kits from 300mm to 330mm; no HiSpec kits list for the Passat MK2
- 300mm clears 16-inch wheels; 318mm and 330mm both need 17 inch
- Three separate 318mm kits: KMVW0127 for 1.8 and 2.0 16V four-cylinders, KMVW0131 for the 2.8 VR6
- VR6 owners need the VR6-specific listing; the four-cylinder bracket will not fit the VR6 hub
- Every kit arrives with Corsa pads fitted and vehicle-specific braided hoses in the box

Tarox: the only big brake option for the Passat MK2
HiSpec do not list a kit for the Volkswagen Passat MK2. Every kit on this page is from Tarox, built in northern Italy. The range covers seven applications across three disc sizes, split by engine variant throughout.
Tarox
Made at the Tarox factory in northern Italy. Calipers are CNC machined from European billet alloy, hand assembled and individually tested. Discs are heat treated and balanced to 0.05mm. Each Passat MK2 kit arrives with vehicle-specific braided hoses and Corsa pads already installed. Full ABS and ESP compatibility stated. Caliper colours: black, red, blue, green or gold anodised. Disc styles: F2000, Sport Japan, C83, D95.
Engine variant: order the right listing
Tarox split the Passat MK2 by engine across all three disc sizes. At 318mm, the 2.8 VR6 has its own dedicated listing (KMVW0131) with different bracket geometry from the four-cylinder KMVW0127 kits. Ordering the wrong listing at 318mm means the brackets will not go on. If you are unsure which engine variant the car has, ring us before ordering and Cameron will confirm the correct kit.
Wheel sizes across the range
Minimum wheel diameter comes from Tarox’s own published figures on tarox.co.uk, looked up per kit. The 300mm Sport clears 16-inch wheels. Both 318mm kits and the 330mm all need 17 inch. The range tops at 330mm, so no kit on this page needs more than a 17-inch wheel.
| Kit | Disc | Minimum wheel | Price inc VAT |
|---|---|---|---|
| 300mm Sport (1.8i 16V / 2.0i 16V) | 300mm | 16 inch | £1,989.79 |
| 318mm Sport (1.8 16V / 2.0 16V, KMVW0127) | 318mm | 17 inch | £2,050.00 |
| 318mm Sport (2.8 VR6, KMVW0131) | 318mm | 17 inch | £2,050.00 |
| 330mm Sport (1.8i 16V / 2.0i 16V) | 330mm | 17 inch | £2,280.00 |
300mm Sport: 16-inch coverage, two engine variants
The 300mm Sport is the entry kit in the Passat MK2 range and the only one that clears a 16-inch wheel. Two engine-specific listings cover the 1.8i 16V and the 2.0i 16V, both at £1,989.79 inc VAT. The B32 six-piston caliper, a two-piece floating disc, Corsa pads and braided hoses arrive in the box. Pick the listing that matches the engine in the car.
Garreth’s note: the 300mm is the straightforward choice for a Passat on 16-inch wheels where the brakes need a genuine upgrade without touching the wheels. If the car is already on 17s, the 318mm gives 18mm more disc for £60.21 extra. Cameron checks wheel clearance on both, so give him the wheel spec before committing.
- £1,989.79 inc VAT
- Clears 16-inch wheels
- 300mm two-piece floating disc, B32 six-piston caliper
- Two engine-specific listings: 1.8i 16V and 2.0i 16V (same price on both)
- Corsa pads fitted and vehicle-specific braided hoses included
- Caliper colours: black, red, blue, green or gold anodised
318mm Sport: 17 inch, 1.8 and 2.0 16V
The 318mm Sport at £2,050.00 inc VAT is the 17-inch step for four-cylinder Passat MK2 engines. Two listings cover this application: one for the 1.8 16V and one for the 2.0 16V, both using the KMVW0127 brackets. Same caliper (B32 six-piston), same price, same wheel size. Pick the listing that matches the engine in the car.
This kit does not cover the 2.8 VR6. The VR6 has its own dedicated 318mm listing (KMVW0131) with different bracket geometry, covered on this page in the section below. If you have a VR6 and order the KMVW0127 kit, the brackets will not go on.
- £2,050.00 inc VAT
- Requires 17-inch wheels
- 318mm two-piece floating disc, B32 six-piston caliper
- Covers 1.8 16V and 2.0 16V four-cylinder engines (KMVW0127)
- Corsa pads fitted and vehicle-specific braided hoses included
- VR6 owners: see the separate 318mm VR6 listing below
318mm Sport: the 2.8 VR6 kit
The 2.8 VR6 Passat MK2 gets its own 318mm kit (KMVW0131) because the VR6 front hub geometry differs from the four-cylinder cars. The disc is 318mm, the caliper is the same B32 six-piston, and the price is the same £2,050.00 inc VAT as the four-cylinder 318mm listing. What differs is the bracket design: the KMVW0131 sits the caliper at the correct offset for the VR6 hub. Attempting to fit the KMVW0127 four-cylinder kit on a VR6 will not work.
There is one 318mm VR6 listing. If the car is the 2.8 VR6 and is already on 17-inch wheels, this is the correct kit to order. Ring us on 0115 9893488 if there is any doubt about which listing applies to your car and Cameron will confirm.
- £2,050.00 inc VAT
- Requires 17-inch wheels
- 318mm two-piece floating disc, B32 six-piston caliper
- Specific to the 2.8 VR6 engine (KMVW0131 brackets)
- Corsa pads fitted and vehicle-specific braided hoses included
- Not interchangeable with the four-cylinder 318mm listing (KMVW0127)
330mm Sport: the top of the range
The 330mm Sport is the largest disc in the Passat MK2 catalogue and the most expensive at £2,280.00 inc VAT. Two engine-specific listings cover the 1.8i 16V and the 2.0i 16V. There is no 330mm listing for the 2.8 VR6 in the current catalogue. Same B32 six-piston caliper and same complete kit format: pads fitted, hoses in the box.
On a Passat MK2 built for circuit use on 17-inch wheels, this is Garreth’s pick. The caliper stays the same B32 throughout the range, so the step from 318mm to 330mm is 12mm more disc on the same six-piston setup. For VR6 owners who want the 330mm, ring us on 0115 9893488 and we will confirm with Tarox whether a VR6 application exists or whether the 318mm VR6 kit is the top option for that engine.
- £2,280.00 inc VAT
- Requires 17-inch wheels
- 330mm two-piece floating disc, B32 six-piston caliper
- Covers 1.8i 16V and 2.0i 16V (no 330mm VR6 listing in current catalogue)
- Corsa pads fitted and vehicle-specific braided hoses included

Common questions
Is there a HiSpec option for the Passat MK2?
No. HiSpec do not currently list a kit for the Volkswagen Passat MK2. All seven kits on this page are from Tarox. If a HiSpec listing appears in the catalogue we will add it to this guide.
Why are there two different kits at 318mm?
The 2.8 VR6 has a different front hub geometry from the four-cylinder engines, so Tarox build a separate 318mm kit for it (KMVW0131). The four-cylinder 318mm kit uses KMVW0127 brackets. Both cost £2,050.00 inc VAT and both need 17-inch wheels, but the bracket design is different. If you order the wrong one it will not fit. Order KMVW0131 for the VR6, KMVW0127 for the 1.8 or 2.0 16V. If you are not sure which engine variant the car has, ring us and Cameron will confirm before you order.
Is there a 330mm option for the 2.8 VR6?
Not in the current catalogue. Tarox list the 330mm Sport for the 1.8i 16V and 2.0i 16V only. VR6 owners have the 318mm Sport (KMVW0131) as the top listed option. Ring us on 0115 9893488 if you want to confirm whether a 330mm VR6 application can be built; Tarox can sometimes supply kits outside the standard catalogue with additional lead time.
My Passat is on standard 15-inch wheels. What are my options?
Nothing in the current Tarox Passat MK2 catalogue clears a 15-inch wheel. The entry kit is 300mm, which needs 16 inches. If the car is running standard 15-inch wheels, you would need to upgrade the wheels before fitting a big brake kit. Ring us and we can discuss whether a wheel change makes sense alongside the brake upgrade or whether standard brake service is the better starting point for the car as it is.
Will these work with ABS?
Yes. Tarox state full compatibility with ABS and ESP across every Passat MK2 kit on this page. The B32 six-piston caliper is a road use caliper; pads and hoses arrive in the box and it bolts to the standard hub. If the car has any non-standard braking or stability hardware, mention it when you order and we will flag it to Tarox before anything is built.
What we would actually fit
On a Passat MK2 on 16-inch wheels, the 300mm Sport. It is the only option that fits the wheels the car came with, and at £1,989.79 inc VAT it is a proper B32 six-piston upgrade with everything in the box. Pick the engine-specific listing (1.8i 16V or 2.0i 16V) and it bolts straight on.
On 17-inch wheels, the 318mm is Garreth’s starting point. £60 more than the 300mm for 18mm more disc, same caliper, same complete kit. For a VR6 on 17s, the KMVW0131 listing is the one. If the car is built for circuit use and is already on 17s, the 330mm at £2,280.00 gives the most swept area available from Tarox on this car, though there is no VR6 listing at that size in the current catalogue.
If you are not sure which listing covers your engine, or if Cameron needs to check your wheel against the caliper spec, ring us on 0115 9893488. Have the engine variant and wheel make and size ready and he will give you a straight answer on fitment before anything gets ordered.
