Our Top Recommended Big Brake Upgrade Kits For Your Volkswagen Passat MK2
The Passat MK2 has seven Tarox kits across three disc sizes: 300mm, 318mm and 330mm. There is now also one Brembo Gran Turismo kit in the catalogue: a 313mm 4-piston unit at £2,385.00 inc VAT, fitting all four-cylinder Passat MK2 engines from 1990 to 1997 but not the 2.8 VR6. HiSpec do not list a kit for this car. The engine question still comes before the disc question, because the 318mm Tarox range has three separate listings and the Brembo does not cover the VR6 at all.
The price ladder is honest on this car: Tarox 300mm at £1,989.79, 318mm at £2,050.00, 330mm at £2,280.00, then Brembo at £2,385.00. The Brembo costs £105 more than the top Tarox. The Tarox range gives 6-piston billet calipers throughout; the Brembo runs a 4-piston cast caliper. What the Brembo has is the Brembo name and a 313mm 2-piece disc made to order in Italy. The full Passat MK2 range is on the site if you want to browse it.
- Seven Tarox kits from 300mm to 330mm; one Brembo GT 313mm kit (four-cylinder only, 1990-1997)
- HiSpec do not list a kit for the Volkswagen Passat MK2
- 300mm Tarox clears 16-inch wheels; 318mm, 330mm and Brembo all need 17 inch or more
- Three separate 318mm Tarox kits: KMVW0127 for 1.8 and 2.0 16V, KMVW0131 for the 2.8 VR6
- VR6 owners: the Brembo does not fit; Tarox 318mm VR6 (KMVW0131) is the only option beyond 300mm
- Every Tarox kit arrives with Corsa pads fitted and braided hoses in the box; Brembo includes pads and braided hoses

Tarox and Brembo on the Passat MK2
The Tarox range covers every Passat MK2 application with seven kits across three disc sizes. Brembo joined in 2026 with one Gran Turismo kit: 313mm, four-cylinder fitment only, made to order in Italy. HiSpec do not list a kit for the Volkswagen Passat MK2 front hub.
Tarox
Made at the Tarox factory in northern Italy. Calipers are CNC machined from European billet alloy, hand assembled and individually tested. Discs heat treated and balanced to 0.05mm. Each Passat MK2 kit arrives with Corsa pads pre-installed and vehicle-specific braided hoses in the box. Full ABS and ESP compatibility stated. Caliper colours: black, red, blue, green or gold anodised.
Brembo
Gran Turismo kit: four-piston cast aluminium caliper, 313mm 2-piece disc, cross-drilled or slotted at the same price. Pads and braided hoses included. Fits four-cylinder Passat MK2 from 1990 to 1997; does not cover the 2.8 VR6. Made to order in Italy, six to eight weeks. Priced above the Tarox range on this car.
HiSpec
HiSpec Motorsport do not list a kit for the Volkswagen Passat MK2 front hub. The options on this page are Tarox and Brembo only.
Wheel sizes across the range
Minimum wheel diameter for the Tarox kits comes from Tarox’s published figures on tarox.co.uk, confirmed per kit. The 300mm Sport clears 16-inch wheels. Both 318mm kits and the 330mm all need 17 inch. For the Brembo GT 313mm, the wheel clearance figure is not a simple diameter: the Brembo product page carries the caliper clearance drawing with the A, B and C dimensions for the specific caliper geometry.
| Kit | Disc | Engine | Minimum wheel | Price inc VAT |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 300mm Sport (1.8i 16V / 2.0i 16V) | 300mm | 4-cyl | 16 inch | £1,989.79 |
| 318mm Sport (1.8 16V / 2.0 16V, KMVW0127) | 318mm | 4-cyl | 17 inch | £2,050.00 |
| 318mm Sport (2.8 VR6, KMVW0131) | 318mm | VR6 | 17 inch | £2,050.00 |
| 330mm Sport (1.8i 16V / 2.0i 16V) | 330mm | 4-cyl | 17 inch | £2,280.00 |
| Brembo GT 313mm (excl VR6) | 313mm | 4-cyl only | See clearance drawing | £2,385.00 |
300mm Sport: 16-inch coverage, two engine variants
The 300mm Sport is the entry kit in the Passat MK2 range and the only one that clears a 16-inch wheel. Two engine-specific listings cover the 1.8i 16V and the 2.0i 16V, both at £1,989.79 inc VAT. The B32 six-piston caliper, a two-piece floating disc, Corsa pads and braided hoses arrive in the box. Pick the listing that matches the engine in the car.
Garreth’s note: the 300mm is the straightforward choice for a Passat on 16-inch wheels where the brakes need a genuine upgrade without touching the wheels. If the car is already on 17s, the 318mm gives 18mm more disc for £60.21 extra. Cameron checks wheel clearance on both, so give him the wheel spec before committing.
- £1,989.79 inc VAT
- Clears 16-inch wheels
- 300mm two-piece floating disc, B32 six-piston caliper
- Two engine-specific listings: 1.8i 16V and 2.0i 16V (same price on both)
- Corsa pads fitted and vehicle-specific braided hoses included
- Caliper colours: black, red, blue, green or gold anodised
318mm Sport: 17 inch, 1.8 and 2.0 16V
The 318mm Sport at £2,050.00 inc VAT is the 17-inch step for four-cylinder Passat MK2 engines. Two listings cover this application: one for the 1.8 16V and one for the 2.0 16V, both using the KMVW0127 brackets. Same caliper (B32 six-piston), same price, same wheel size. Pick the listing that matches the engine in the car.
This kit does not cover the 2.8 VR6. The VR6 has its own dedicated 318mm listing (KMVW0131) with different bracket geometry, covered in the section below. If you have a VR6 and order the KMVW0127 kit, the brackets will not go on.
- £2,050.00 inc VAT
- Requires 17-inch wheels
- 318mm two-piece floating disc, B32 six-piston caliper
- Covers 1.8 16V and 2.0 16V four-cylinder engines (KMVW0127)
- Corsa pads fitted and vehicle-specific braided hoses included
- VR6 owners: see the separate 318mm VR6 listing below
318mm Sport: the 2.8 VR6 kit
The 2.8 VR6 Passat MK2 gets its own 318mm kit (KMVW0131) because the VR6 front hub geometry differs from the four-cylinder cars. The disc is 318mm, the caliper is the same B32 six-piston, and the price is the same £2,050.00 inc VAT as the four-cylinder 318mm listing. What differs is the bracket design: the KMVW0131 sits the caliper at the correct offset for the VR6 hub. Attempting to fit the KMVW0127 four-cylinder kit on a VR6 will not work.
There is one 318mm VR6 listing. If the car is the 2.8 VR6 and is already on 17-inch wheels, this is the correct kit to order. The Brembo kit on this page does not cover the VR6. Ring us on 0115 647 8650 if there is any doubt about which listing applies to your car and Cameron will confirm.
- £2,050.00 inc VAT
- Requires 17-inch wheels
- 318mm two-piece floating disc, B32 six-piston caliper
- Specific to the 2.8 VR6 engine (KMVW0131 brackets)
- Corsa pads fitted and vehicle-specific braided hoses included
- Not interchangeable with the four-cylinder 318mm listing (KMVW0127)
- Note: the Brembo kit does not cover the VR6; this is the top option for that engine
330mm Sport: the top Tarox option
The 330mm Sport is the largest Tarox disc in the Passat MK2 catalogue at £2,280.00 inc VAT. Two engine-specific listings cover the 1.8i 16V and the 2.0i 16V. There is no 330mm listing for the 2.8 VR6 in the current catalogue. Same B32 six-piston caliper and the same complete kit format throughout: pads fitted, hoses in the box.
On a Passat MK2 built for circuit use on 17-inch wheels, this is Garreth’s pick within the Tarox range. The step from 318mm to 330mm is 12mm more disc on the same six-piston setup for £230 extra. For VR6 owners who want the 330mm, ring us on 0115 647 8650 and we will confirm with Tarox whether a VR6 application exists or whether the 318mm VR6 kit is the top option for that engine.
- £2,280.00 inc VAT
- Requires 17-inch wheels
- 330mm two-piece floating disc, B32 six-piston caliper
- Covers 1.8i 16V and 2.0i 16V (no 330mm VR6 listing in current catalogue)
- Corsa pads fitted and vehicle-specific braided hoses included
Brembo GT 313mm: made to order, four-cylinder only
This is the one Brembo kit that fits the Volkswagen Passat MK2, and it covers four-cylinder engines from 1990 to 1997 only. The 2.8 VR6 is not covered. At £2,385.00 inc VAT it is £105 more than the top Tarox 330mm, and it runs a 4-piston cast aluminium caliper where every Tarox kit on this page has a 6-piston billet caliper. The question is what £105 extra buys: the Brembo nameplate, a 313mm 2-piece disc, and a made-to-order build from Brembo in Italy with a six to eight week lead time.
The 313mm disc comes cross-drilled or slotted at the same price, which is standard across the Brembo Gran Turismo range. Caliper colour is a free option. Pads and braided hoses are included. For wheel clearance, the Brembo product page carries the caliper clearance drawing with the A, B and C dimensions. The Brembo sub-family (GT-A, GT-M and so on) is not listed in the product attributes; ring Cameron on 0115 647 8650 to confirm the exact caliper spec before ordering.
- £2,385.00 inc VAT (£105 more than the 330mm Tarox)
- 313mm 2-piece disc, cross-drilled or slotted (same price)
- 4-piston cast aluminium caliper, Brembo Gran Turismo range
- Pads and braided hoses included
- Fits four-cylinder engines 1990-1997; does NOT cover the 2.8 VR6
- Made to order in Italy, six to eight weeks

Tarox kits arrive with Corsa pads already installed in the calipers and vehicle-specific braided hoses in the box. The Brembo includes performance pads and braided hoses. HiSpec are not in this guide, so the usual three-column comparison is a two-column one here.

Common questions
Is there a HiSpec option for the Passat MK2?
HiSpec do not currently list a kit for the Volkswagen Passat MK2. The options on this page are Tarox (seven kits) and Brembo (one kit, four-cylinder only). If a HiSpec listing appears in the catalogue we will add it to this guide.
Why are there two different kits at 318mm?
The 2.8 VR6 has a different front hub geometry from the four-cylinder engines, so Tarox build a separate 318mm kit for it (KMVW0131). The four-cylinder 318mm kit uses KMVW0127 brackets. Both cost £2,050.00 inc VAT and both need 17-inch wheels, but the bracket design is different. If you order the wrong one it will not fit. Order KMVW0131 for the VR6, KMVW0127 for the 1.8 or 2.0 16V. If you are not sure which engine variant the car has, drop us an email or click to open a chat and Cameron will confirm before you order.
Is there a 330mm option for the 2.8 VR6?
Not in the current catalogue. Tarox list the 330mm Sport for the 1.8i 16V and 2.0i 16V only. The Brembo kit also does not cover the VR6. VR6 owners have the 318mm Sport (KMVW0131) as the top listed option. Ring us on 0115 647 8650 if you want to confirm whether a 330mm VR6 application can be built; Tarox can sometimes supply kits outside the standard catalogue with additional lead time.
My Passat is on standard 15-inch wheels. What are my options?
Nothing in the Tarox or Brembo catalogue on this page clears a 15-inch wheel. The entry Tarox is 300mm and needs 16 inches. If the car is running standard 15-inch wheels, you would need to upgrade the wheels before fitting a big brake kit. Drop us an email or click to open a chat and we can work out whether a wheel change makes sense alongside the brake upgrade or whether standard brake service is the better starting point.
Will these work with ABS?
Yes. Tarox state full compatibility with ABS and ESP across every Passat MK2 kit on this page. The Brembo GT system is also designed for road use with ABS compatibility. If the car has non-standard braking or stability hardware, mention it when you order and we will flag it before anything is built.
The Brembo costs more than the top Tarox but has fewer pistons. Is it worth it?
The Brembo GT 313mm at £2,385.00 costs £105 more than the Tarox 330mm at £2,280.00. The Tarox has a 6-piston billet caliper; the Brembo has a 4-piston cast caliper. The Brembo is priced where it is because of the Brembo brand and the made-to-order build process in Italy. If the reason you want this brake kit is specifically the Brembo nameplate, that is a legitimate call. If the decision is purely on caliper spec and price, the Tarox 330mm gives more piston and costs less. Cameron can walk through the comparison if it helps to talk it through.
Does the Brembo fit the 2.8 VR6?
No. The Brembo GT 313mm kit listed here fits the Volkswagen Passat with four-cylinder engines from 1990 to 1997 and is explicitly excluded for the 2.8 VR6. For the VR6, the Tarox 318mm VR6 kit (KMVW0131) is the option. Ring us on 0115 647 8650 if you have a VR6 and want to confirm what the current catalogue covers.
What we would actually fit
On a Passat MK2 on 16-inch wheels, the 300mm Tarox Sport. It is the only option that fits the wheels the car came with, and at £1,989.79 inc VAT it is a proper B32 six-piston upgrade with everything in the box. Pick the engine-specific listing (1.8i 16V or 2.0i 16V) and it bolts straight on.
On 17-inch wheels, the 318mm is Garreth’s starting point within Tarox. £60 more than the 300mm for 18mm more disc, same caliper, same complete kit. For a VR6 on 17s, the KMVW0131 listing is the one and there is nothing above it in the current catalogue.
For a circuit build on 17s with no VR6, the 330mm Tarox at £2,280.00 gives the most swept area available from Tarox on this car. The step over the 318mm is 12mm more disc on the same six-piston setup for £230 extra.
The Brembo GT 313mm at £2,385.00 is there for buyers who specifically want the Brembo name. Garreth would not tell you the Tarox is better value, because objectively it is: more piston, less money. But if the Brembo nameplate is the priority, the kit is there, it is made to order in Italy, and it includes pads and hoses. The six to eight week lead time is worth knowing upfront. VR6 owners: this option does not exist for you.
If you are not sure which listing covers your engine, or Cameron needs to check your wheel against the caliper spec, ring us on 0115 647 8650. Have the engine variant and wheel make and size ready.
