Our Top Recommended Big Brake Upgrade Kits For Your TVR Chimaera

The Chimaera came from the factory with enough power to make a brake upgrade worth doing properly. We have four HiSpec Billet 4 kits for it, all made to order in Dartford, all bolting to the standard front hubs. The interesting decision is at 283mm, where HiSpec list two completely different kits at the same disc diameter: one with a solid one-piece disc and a standard mount caliper, one with a floating two-piece rotor and a radial mount caliper. Same diameter, very different build, and the price difference reflects it.

Neither Tarox nor Brembo list a kit for the Chimaera. We have checked both under TVR and Chimaera and found nothing. That may change and we will update this page if it does. The full Chimaera brake range is on the site.

  • Every kit is a complete front axle conversion: calipers, discs, mounting bells, Chimaera specific brackets and all fitting hardware
  • HiSpec publish the smallest wheel each kit clears, from 15 inch at 283mm up to 17 inch at 325mm
  • The Billet 4 caliper is available in black, red, blue, gold or silver
  • Pads and braided hoses are priced separately on every kit, so you choose the compound

The TVR Chimaera. The wheel size you run decides which of these kits can go behind it.

HiSpec Motorsport: the only brand with a Chimaera kit

HiSpec machine every caliper and piston from 6082 T6 billet aluminium at their facility in Dartford. Every Chimaera kit is made to order in up to 28 working days with the calipers finished in your choice of black, red, blue, gold or silver. The Billet 4 is HiSpec’s road and track caliper: four pistons with external boots to keep water and road grit clear of the seals.

Tarox and Brembo do not list this carWe have checked both brands against TVR and Chimaera and neither has a kit. If that changes, we will add them here. For now, the range on this page is HiSpec only.

The number that decides it: your wheel size

The first question before picking a kit is what wheels the car runs. HiSpec state the minimum wheel size for every Chimaera listing and those figures are in the table below. Both 283mm kits clear a 15 inch wheel. The 300mm needs 16 inches. The 325mm needs 17 inches. One note on the 325mm listing: it was originally listed as 16 inch clearance and was corrected in August 2026. The product description now confirms 17 inch. If you are on 16s and want more than 300mm, talk to us first.

Tell us the wheel, not just the sizeTwo 16 inch wheels can have completely different clearance behind the spokes, and the gap lives in that profile. If you are on aftermarket wheels, give Cameron the make and model of the wheel along with the size and he will check clearance before anything goes to HiSpec. That conversation takes about five minutes.

HiSpec 283mm Billet 4 one-piece: the entry upgrade

On a Chimaera keeping its original wheels, this is the right starting point. The Billet 4 caliper carries four pistons with external boots on the seals, machined from 6082 T6 billet aluminium in Dartford. The 283mm solid one-piece disc at 24mm thick is a genuine step over the standard setup without touching anything else on the car. Standard mount caliper, direct hub fitment, clears a 15 inch wheel.

  • £785.44 inc VAT
  • Clears 15 inch wheels
  • 283 x 24mm solid one-piece disc
  • Brackets and all fitting hardware included; pads and braided hoses priced separately
  • Made to order in Dartford, up to 28 working days, five caliper colours

HiSpec 283mm Billet 4 two-piece: same wheels, different engineering

Where the one-piece kit puts a solid disc on a standard mount caliper, this one runs a floating rotor on separate mounting bells with the caliper in radial mount position. A floating rotor is free to slide laterally on the bells, which keeps it flatter as it heats up and changes the feel at the pedal. This is how every serious race caliper is built. Both 283mm kits clear a 15 inch wheel, so the decision is whether you want floating disc construction. The price gap is £403.

  • £1,188.53 inc VAT
  • Clears 15 inch wheels
  • 283 x 24mm two-piece floating rotor, radial mount caliper, mounting bells included
  • Brackets and all fitting hardware included; pads and braided hoses priced separately
  • Made to order in Dartford, up to 28 working days

HiSpec 300mm Billet 4 two-piece: the 16 inch step

Once the car is on 16s this is the first kit to look at. Same two-piece floating rotor construction as the 283mm two-piece, but at 300mm the disc is bigger and 28mm thick rather than 24mm. At £1,233 it is only £45 more than the 283mm two-piece, so if the wheels clear 16 inches, the bigger disc is hard to argue with. Garreth’s default answer for a Chimaera on 16s.

  • £1,233.29 inc VAT
  • Clears 16 inch wheels
  • 300 x 28mm two-piece floating rotor, radial mount caliper
  • Brackets, mounting bells and all fitting hardware included; pads and braided hoses priced separately
  • Made to order in Dartford, up to 28 working days

HiSpec 325mm Billet 4 two-piece: the 17 inch build

The biggest HiSpec kit listed for the car. A 325mm disc at 28mm thick on a two-piece floating rotor with the caliper in radial mount. For a Chimaera that has been properly built around the brakes, this is the right kit. One point on wheel clearance: this kit needs 17 inch wheels. The listing carried an incorrect 16 inch clearance figure until August 2026 and was corrected then. The product description now confirms 17 inch. If the car is on 16s, the 300mm kit is the one.

  • £1,320.18 inc VAT
  • Clears 17 inch wheels (confirmed August 2026, corrected from 16 inch)
  • 325 x 28mm two-piece floating rotor, radial mount caliper
  • Brackets, mounting bells and all fitting hardware included; pads and braided hoses priced separately
  • Made to order in Dartford, up to 28 working days

What is in each box

All four kits are the same family: the Billet 4 caliper from the same Dartford facility, with the same pricing structure on pads and hoses. None of the four kits include pads or braided hoses. You choose the compound when you order and HiSpec can supply both on the same order.

Common questions

What is the difference between the 283mm one-piece and two-piece kits?

They share the same Billet 4 caliper and the same 283mm disc diameter. The construction is different. The one-piece uses a solid disc bolted directly to the hub with a standard mount caliper. The two-piece uses a floating rotor on separate mounting bells with the caliper in radial mount position. A floating rotor stays flatter under heat and the radial mount position changes the bite character at the pedal. Both clear a 15 inch wheel. The price difference is £403.

Will a kit fit behind my original wheels?

On factory TVR Chimaera wheels, yes if you match the table above: 15 inch for either 283mm kit, 16 inch for the 300mm, and 17 inch for the 325mm. If you are on aftermarket wheels, tell us the make and model of the wheel along with the size. Cameron checks clearance before anything goes to build and most answers come back in about five minutes.

Why are pads and hoses not in the box?

HiSpec price the kit without pads so you choose the compound for how the car is used: a road pad for a daily and something more serious for track evenings. Both pads and braided hoses can go on the same order. We will quote the finished build so you know what you are spending in total.

How long will it take to arrive?

HiSpec kits are made to order at their Dartford facility: allow up to 28 working days from the order going in.

Neither Tarox nor Brembo list this car. Is that right?

Yes, that is right as of October 2026. We searched both brands under TVR and Chimaera and found nothing. Brembo do make custom kits for some older British sports cars, but the Chimaera is not currently in their catalogue. If either brand adds coverage, we will update this page.

What we would actually fit

On a Chimaera on factory 15s, the 283mm one-piece at £785 is the right starting point, and it is a proper upgrade, not a compromise. If the car has seen a circuit or you want floating disc construction regardless of price, the 283mm two-piece at £1,189 is the better kit. Cameron’s view is that once a car is going on track, the argument for saving £403 on the disc construction mostly disappears. On 16s the 300mm two-piece is almost the same money as the 283mm two-piece and hard to argue past. The 325mm is for a car that has been built around the brakes.

If you are not sure which clears your wheels, ring us on 0115 9893488 with the wheel spec and what the car does at weekends. Cameron handles fitment on this side of the business and most answers take about five minutes.
