Our Top Recommended Big Brake Upgrade Kits For Your Skoda Octavia MK1
Most people looking at Octavia MK1 brake kits already know what they have. The MK1 was the first proper product of the modern Skoda era: built on the VW Group PQ34 platform, sharing front hubs with the Golf MK4, Seat Leon MK1 and Audi TT. The RS arrived in 2000 with 180bhp from a 1.8 turbo and a price that felt too low for what the car actually did. The ones that have made it to 2026 are usually owned by people who have done something to them.
This page covers the three Tarox kits listed for the Octavia MK1. HiSpec do not make a kit for this car, so it is Tarox across the board. Three things worth knowing before you scroll: every kit here needs 17 inch wheels, confirmed on Tarox’s own website. The 323mm kit lists below the smaller 318mm by about £300. And the three 330mm kits use a different Tarox part code that drops the MK1 designation, which we explain at that section. The full Octavia MK1 brake range is on the site if you want the raw listing.
- Every kit is a front conversion: six-piston B32 caliper, two-piece floating disc, vehicle-specific brackets, braided hoses and Corsa pads pre-fitted in the calipers
- All three disc sizes need 17 inch wheels minimum, confirmed via Tarox's published data; the listing text that says "often fits behind OEM wheels" is generic and the confirmed figure overrides it
- Tarox split by engine: separate listings for the 1.8 20V Turbo, RS 1.8 Turbo and 1.9TD, each with brackets matched to that engine's hub geometry
- The 323mm Sport lists at £1,748.98 inc VAT, about £301 less than the smaller 318mm at £2,050; both need 17 inch wheels and run the same caliper

The Tarox range for the Octavia MK1
Tarox is the only brand in the catalogue for the Octavia MK1. HiSpec do not list a kit. The range is three disc sizes, 318mm, 323mm and 330mm, all using the same B32 six-piston caliper throughout. Every kit arrives as a complete package: caliper, two-piece floating disc, vehicle-specific brackets, braided hoses and Corsa pads pre-fitted. You choose the caliper finish from black, red, blue, green or gold and the disc style from F2000, Sport Japan, C83 or D95 when you order.
All three kits are manufactured at the Tarox factory in northern Italy. Calipers are CNC machined from European billet alloy and hand assembled. Discs are heat treated, CNC faced and hand balanced to 0.05mm. Tarox state full ABS and ESP compatibility on every kit listed here. More background on the production process is on Tarox’s own site.
Complete package, nothing extra
Every Tarox kit for the Octavia MK1 arrives with braided hoses and Corsa pads already included and pre-fitted. Unlike some brands in our wider catalogue where pads and hoses are priced separately, there is nothing else to order before you bolt this on.
Same caliper across all three sizes
All three disc sizes run the B32 six-piston billet caliper. The choice between 318mm, 323mm and 330mm is about disc area and price, not a change in caliper family or piston count. One data point worth noting: the 323mm lists below the 318mm despite being the bigger rotor.
The wheel question
All three disc sizes are confirmed at 17 inch minimum via Tarox’s published fitment data. The listing descriptions say “often fits behind OEM wheels” as standard Tarox copy, but the figure Tarox publish on their website for each of these part codes is 17 inch, and that is the number Cameron works from. Standard Octavia MK1 alloys run 15 or 16 inch on most trim levels. Neither of those clears the B32 caliper.
Diameter is the easy half of the wheel question. Depth is the part that is specific to your wheels: how far the spoke profile extends inward behind the rim face, and whether it clears the caliper body at full steering lock. A 17 inch wheel of the right diameter can still catch a spoke on the caliper if the profile is shallow. Give Cameron the make, model and offset of your wheels before you order and he will check. Tarox also publish a clearance template if you want to do the check yourself first.
| Kit | Disc | Smallest wheel |
|---|---|---|
| Tarox 323mm Sport | 323 x 28mm | 17 inch |
| Tarox 318mm Sport | 318 x 26mm | 17 inch |
| Tarox 330mm Sport | 330 x 26mm | 17 inch |
Tarox 323mm Sport: the entry point and the best price
The 323mm is the starting point on an Octavia MK1, and the price makes the case straightforwardly. At £1,748.98 inc VAT it is the cheapest kit in the range and a larger disc than the 318mm below. The same B32 six-piston caliper runs through all three sizes, both need 17 inch wheels, both arrive complete with pads and hoses. Garreth’s default for an Octavia MK1 starting from scratch is the 323mm, unless there is a specific reason to look elsewhere.
Three engine-specific listings at this disc size: 1.8 20V Turbo (ID 4468), RS 1.8 Turbo (ID 4469) and 1.9TD (ID 4470). The brackets are specific to each variant’s hub geometry, so order the one for your engine. If you are not certain which applies to your car, give Cameron the registration and he will confirm with Tarox before anything goes to build.
- £1,748.98 inc VAT, complete
- B32 six-piston caliper, billet alloy, hand assembled in Italy
- 323 x 28mm two-piece floating disc, balanced to 0.05mm
- Corsa pads pre-fitted, braided hoses included
- Three engine-specific listings: 1.8 20V Turbo, RS 1.8 Turbo and 1.9TD
Tarox 318mm Sport: the smaller disc at the higher price
The 318mm Sport costs £2,050 inc VAT, which is £301.02 more than the 323mm above for a rotor that is 5mm smaller. Both run the B32 six-piston caliper, both need 17 inch wheels, both arrive with pads and hoses. The disc is also 2mm thinner at 26mm against the 323mm’s 28mm. We flag this every time an Octavia enquiry comes up because the price ladder reads the wrong way: the smaller kit is the expensive one.
If there is a specific reason to want the 318mm, Garreth can work through it. Some owners have a preference for a particular disc style or diameter for reasons that make sense in context. Coming to this page cold, the 323mm is the call. Same three engine-specific listings here: 1.8 20V Turbo (ID 4461), RS 1.8 Turbo (ID 4462) and 1.9TD (ID 4463). Order the one for your engine.
- £2,050.00 inc VAT (£301.02 more than the 323mm above)
- B32 six-piston caliper, same as the 323mm
- 318 x 26mm two-piece floating disc, 2mm thinner than the 323mm
- Corsa pads pre-fitted, braided hoses included
- 17 inch minimum confirmed; three engine-specific listings
Tarox 330mm Sport: the largest disc in the range
The 330mm is the biggest kit listed for the Octavia MK1 and the top of the catalogue at £2,280 inc VAT. More disc area than the two picks above, same B32 caliper, same 17 inch minimum confirmed on Tarox’s website. For an RS or a 1.8T doing regular track sessions this is the natural step up from the 323mm.
One thing worth noting on this kit: the three 330mm listings (IDs 4475, 4476 and 4477) use a different Tarox part code, KMVW0154, and their product names drop the MK1 tag. The 318mm and 323mm kits are titled “Skoda Octavia [engine] MK1”; these three are just “Skoda Octavia [engine]”. This likely means the same brackets fit both the MK1 and the early MK2. If you have an Octavia MK2 and landed on this page by searching, the 330mm is the kit to ask about, but ring before you order so we can confirm the fitment for your generation. MK1 owners can order straightforwardly.
- £2,280.00 inc VAT, complete
- B32 six-piston caliper, billet alloy, hand assembled in Italy
- 330 x 26mm two-piece floating disc, balanced to 0.05mm
- Corsa pads pre-fitted, braided hoses included
- 17 inch minimum confirmed; note that these listings cover more than MK1 only (see above)
What is in each box
Every Tarox kit for the Octavia MK1 arrives complete. That is worth spelling out because it differs from how HiSpec kits work on other cars in this guide series, where pads and braided hoses are priced separately so the buyer picks the compound. On the Octavia MK1, the caliper, two-piece disc, brackets, braided hoses and Corsa pads all come in the same box, pads already installed in the calipers.
Corsa pads are Tarox’s standard road and light track compound. If the car does more than occasional circuit work, tell Cameron when you order and he can look at an alternative pad spec before the kit goes to Tarox. The lead time for these kits is specific to what Tarox are building at the time, so ask when you order and we will give you the current picture.

Common questions
Why does the 323mm cost less than the 318mm?
It catches people out and we checked it more than once. The 323mm Sport is £1,748.98 inc VAT and the 318mm is £2,050.00, despite the 323mm being 5mm bigger in diameter and 2mm thicker in disc. Both run the same B32 six-piston caliper and both need 17 inch wheels. The difference sits in the Tarox part codes and pricing structure, not in any spec that justifies it. We flag it to Tarox and we flag it here. On an Octavia MK1 without a specific reason otherwise, the 323mm is the pick by price.
Do the 330mm kits fit the Octavia MK2 as well?
Possibly, and it is worth asking. The 330mm listings use part code KMVW0154 and their product names do not include MK1. The 318mm (KMVW0364) and 323mm (KMVW0986) both explicitly say MK1 in their names and part codes. This suggests the KMVW0154 bracket geometry spans more than one Octavia generation. If you have an MK2, ring with your registration and we will confirm with Tarox before anything goes to build. Do not order the 318mm or 323mm MK1 listings for an MK2 without checking first.
Which listing do I need for my engine?
Order the one that matches your engine: 1.8 20V Turbo, RS 1.8 Turbo or 1.9TD. Tarox make the brackets engine-specific, so a kit ordered for the wrong variant may not sit correctly against the hub. If your car is a different engine or specification, ring Cameron with the registration and he will confirm the right listing before it goes to build.
Do I need to change my wheels?
Yes, unless you are already on 17 inch or larger. Standard Octavia MK1 alloys are 15 or 16 inch on most trim levels. None of those clear the B32 caliper on any kit here. If wheels are part of the build, mention it when you ring and we will talk through what makes sense alongside the brake kit.
Will these work with ABS and ESP?
Tarox state full compatibility with ABS, ESP and all modern driver aids on every kit listed for the Octavia MK1. Tell us your exact car spec when you order and we will confirm the detail with Tarox before anything is built.
What we would actually fit
On an Octavia MK1 coming to this page without a particular reason to look elsewhere, the 323mm Sport at £1,748.98. It is the cheapest kit, a bigger disc than the 318mm and a complete package. Garreth’s default recommendation for a standard or lightly modified 1.8T or RS is the 323mm, full stop. The price does not follow disc size on this car, which means the usual approach of starting at the smaller end and working up does not apply. Start at the 323mm and work up to the 330mm if the car warrants it.
For an RS doing regular track sessions or a 1.8T with real engine work behind it, the 330mm is worth the step. More disc area, same caliper family, confirmed 17 inch minimum. Check the MK1 vs MK2 fitment question if there is any doubt about which generation the car is.
If you are stuck between the two, ring us on 0115 9893488 with your wheel spec and what the car does at weekends. If the car is on standard 15 or 16 inch alloys, that is where the conversation starts because no kit on this page will go behind them. Cameron handles the wheel and spoke clearance side. Have the make and model of your wheels handy if you have already changed them and he will check before anything is ordered.
