Our Top Recommended Big Brake Upgrade Kits For Your Seat Leon MK1
The Seat Leon turned up in 1999 on the same VAG platform as the Golf MK4 and the Audi A3, but it was never a rebadging job. The Cupra ran 180 bhp through the front wheels at a time when that was a genuinely competitive front-wheel-drive number, and a lot of those cars have spent the years since doing trackdays and club championship seasons. On a 25-year-old hot hatch running harder than stock, the brakes are usually where the conversation starts.
This guide covers every Tarox big brake kit listed for the Leon MK1. HiSpec do not make a kit for this car, so the page is Tarox only. There are five disc sizes across two caliper grades, with separate listings for the 1.8i 20V Turbo and the Cupra. Worth noting before you read on: the price order at the entry end does not follow the disc size. The full Leon MK1 brake range is on the site if you want the complete listing.
- Every kit is a complete front conversion: caliper, two-piece floating disc, vehicle-specific brackets, braided hoses and Corsa pads pre-fitted in the calipers
- There is no sub-17 inch option on the Leon MK1. Every Tarox kit in the catalogue needs at least 17 inch wheels to clear the caliper
- Tarox list separately for the 1.8i 20V Turbo and the Cupra. Different brackets, same caliper and disc spec, same price at each size
- The 340mm and 360mm kits use the B34GT caliper with sequential piston sizing. That is a different caliper from the B32 that runs through the Sport range

The Tarox range for the Leon MK1
Tarox is the only brand in the Leon MK1 catalogue. HiSpec do not list a kit for this car, so there is no two-brand comparison to work through. That actually makes things more straightforward: five disc sizes, two caliper families, and a clear step-up structure from Sport to Super Sport.
Everything in the range is manufactured at the Tarox factory in northern Italy. CNC machined from European billet alloy, hand assembled, discs heat treated and balanced to 0.05mm. Every kit arrives complete with braided hoses and Corsa pads already fitted, so there is nothing else to order. If you want a different pad compound, tell us when you order and we will sort it before the kit goes to build. More on what is in each box further down. For the full Tarox picture there is also a Tarox manufacturer site.
Sport range (B32)
Three disc sizes: 318mm, 323mm, 330mm. The B32 is a six-piston caliper, hand assembled from billet alloy. These kits all clear 17 inch wheels. Pads and hoses come in the box. The 323mm undercuts the 318mm on price by £301, worth reading before you pick.
Super Sport range (B34GT)
Two disc sizes: 340mm and 360mm. The B34GT caliper uses eight sequentially sized pistons so the pads wear evenly and the pedal stays consistent under sustained braking. Designed for fast road and track. The 360mm needs 18 inch wheels. Pads and hoses included.
The wheel question
Every kit on this page needs at least 17 inch wheels. That is a harder floor than most. On the Golf MK4 guide, the entry HiSpec kit cleared standard 15 inch wheels. On the Leon MK1 there is no equivalent. If the car is still on the original 15 or 16 inch alloys, they need to change before any of these kits will fit. If you are already on 17s, the Sport range drops straight in.
Depth is the other part of the question, and that is the check Cameron does. A wheel of the right diameter can still foul a caliper at the spokes if the spoke profile is shallow. Give Cameron the make and model of your wheels, not just the size, and he will check clearance before anything is built. Tarox also publish a clearance template for their own kits.
| Kit | Disc | Smallest wheel |
|---|---|---|
| Tarox 323mm Sport | 323mm | 17 inch |
| Tarox 318mm Sport (1.8T listing) | 318mm | 17 inch |
| Tarox 318mm Sport (Cupra listing) | 318mm | Not confirmed, ask us |
| Tarox 330mm Sport | 330mm | 17 inch |

| Tarox 360mm Super Sport | 360mm | 18 inch |
Tarox 323mm Sport: the cheapest kit in the range
The 323mm Sport is the entry point and the most interesting price on the page. At £1,748.98 inc VAT, it is £301 cheaper than the 318mm Sport below it in disc size. Both use the B32 six-piston caliper, both need 17 inch wheels, and both arrive with pads and hoses in the box. The 323mm is the obvious starting call on a 17-inch Leon.
Garreth’s take on this: unless your car needs a specific disc diameter for a reason we have not seen yet, start here. Two listings at this size: the 1.8i 20V Turbo version (id 4445) and the Cupra version (id 4446). Different brackets, same kit, same price. Order the one that matches your car.
- £1,748.98 inc VAT, complete
- Corsa pads and braided hoses included and pre-fitted
- B32 six-piston caliper, billet alloy, hand assembled in Italy
- 323mm two-piece floating disc, balanced to 0.05mm
- Separate listings for 1.8i 20V Turbo and Cupra; both clear 17 inch wheels
Tarox 318mm Sport: smaller disc, higher price
At £2,050 inc VAT, the 318mm Sport costs £301.02 more than the 323mm despite being a smaller disc. Both are the same B32 caliper, both need 17 inch wheels, and we have not found a spec difference that explains the gap. The 1.8T listing confirms 17 inch minimum from Tarox’s own data; the Cupra listing uses a non-standard code that does not resolve on Tarox’s site, so we check clearance for that one before build.
This kit is here because some builds have a specific reason to want the 318mm, and it is worth knowing both options exist. If you have a straightforward 17-inch Leon, the 323mm is the more sensible starting point by price. Ring us if you are weighing the two and want Garreth’s view on why the 318mm might apply to your car.
- £2,050.00 inc VAT, complete
- Corsa pads and braided hoses included and pre-fitted
- B32 six-piston caliper
- 318mm two-piece floating disc
- 17 inch confirmed for the 1.8T listing; Cupra listing minimum wheel confirmed before build
Tarox 330mm Sport: the mid-range Sport pick
Still in the Sport range and still on the B32 caliper, the 330mm adds disc area for a more progressive response into braking zones. At £2,280 inc VAT it sits sensibly between the 323mm entry and the 340mm Super Sport step-up. Both variants (the 1.8T listing and the Cupra) confirm 17 inch minimum from Tarox’s published data.
For a Cupra doing regular track evenings without a full track build, this is where Garreth would look before recommending the step up to the B34GT caliper. More disc area for the same caliper family and the same minimum wheel requirement.
- £2,280.00 inc VAT, complete
- Corsa pads and braided hoses included and pre-fitted
- B32 six-piston caliper, billet alloy
- 330mm two-piece floating disc, balanced to 0.05mm
- 17 inch confirmed for both 1.8T and Cupra variants
Tarox 340mm Super Sport: the step to sequential pistons
This is the move from the Sport range to the Super Sport. The caliper changes from the B32 to the B34GT, which uses eight pistons arranged in sequential sizes. The effect is even pad contact across the disc face and a pedal that stays consistent as the caliper gets hot in a long braking zone. For sustained circuit work, that matters more than the disc size increase.
The listing name says 10 pot. The older B34 caliper ran a 10-piston design; the current B34GT runs eight sequentially sized pistons, and that is what arrives. Same philosophy, updated execution. The minimum wheel size is not currently published by Tarox for this specific kit. The 330mm Sport sits at 17in and the 360mm Super Sport at 18in, so the 340mm likely falls at 18in. We confirm it before anything is built.
- £2,610.00 inc VAT, complete
- Corsa pads and braided hoses included and pre-fitted
- B34GT caliper, eight sequentially sized pistons for even pad wear
- 340mm two-piece floating disc, balanced to 0.05mm
- Minimum wheel size not published by Tarox for this kit; we confirm before build
Tarox 360mm Super Sport: the flagship
The biggest kit in the range. The 360mm Super Sport uses the same B34GT caliper as the 340mm, with a larger disc and a corresponding step up in stopping mass. At £3,210 inc VAT and a confirmed 18 inch minimum, this is the full-build route for a heavily modified Leon or a car set up specifically for circuit racing.
Two listings, same price: 1.8i 20V Turbo (id 4453) and Cupra (id 4454). At this level, Garreth’s recommendation is a phone call before you buy. There is a good chance other things on the car want looking at alongside the brakes, and it is easier to sort that conversation before the kit goes to Tarox than after.
- £3,210.00 inc VAT, complete
- Corsa pads and braided hoses included and pre-fitted
- B34GT caliper, eight sequentially sized pistons
- 360mm two-piece floating disc, balanced to 0.05mm
- 18 inch minimum; separate listings for 1.8i 20V Turbo and Cupra
If the car is on 18s
The 360mm Super Sport is the natural end point for a Leon on 18 inch wheels. Both listings are below. The 340mm Super Sport may also fit behind 18s but the minimum is unconfirmed at time of writing, so ring us and we will check before anything is ordered.
What is in each box
Unlike the HiSpec kits you will see on other cars in this series, every Tarox kit here is a complete package. Pads and braided hoses are both included and the pads arrive already fitted in the calipers, so nothing is missing when the box arrives. The only decision is the pad compound. Corsa pads are the standard fitment and work well on road and occasional track use. If the car does serious circuit work, we can spec a different compound before it goes to build.

Common questions
Why is the 323mm cheaper than the 318mm?
It reads oddly and we checked it twice. The 323mm Sport lists at £1,748.98 inc VAT and the 318mm Sport lists at £2,050.00. Both use the B32 caliper and both clear 17 inch wheels. The 323mm is a bigger disc at a lower price. The difference sits in the Tarox part codes, not in a spec we can see in the listings. We have flagged it as a data point. Our recommendation is to start with the 323mm unless you have a specific reason for the 318.
Which listing do I order, the 1.8T or the Cupra?
Pick the one that matches your car. The brackets are different between the two variants, so ordering the wrong one means the kit will not fit correctly. If you are unsure of your exact spec, give Cameron the registration and he will confirm the right listing before it goes to build.
What is the difference between Sport and Super Sport?
The caliper. The Sport range uses the B32, a six-piston caliper. The Super Sport uses the B34GT, which runs eight pistons in sequentially increasing sizes. The sequential arrangement means the pads make even contact with the disc and the pedal feel stays consistent as the caliper heats up. For road use and occasional trackdays the B32 is a solid kit. For regular or sustained circuit work the B34GT is the better tool.
How long does it take to arrive?
Tarox kits are built specifically for the car at the factory in Italy. Lead times vary through the year, so ask when you order and we will give you the current picture at that point.
Do I need to change my wheels?
If the car is on standard 15 or 16 inch alloys, yes. Every kit on this page needs at least 17 inch wheels to clear the caliper. If you are already on 17s, the Sport range fits. The 360mm Super Sport needs 18s. And whatever the diameter, if you are on aftermarket wheels, give Cameron the make and model of the wheel and he will check spoke clearance before anything is ordered.
What we would actually fit
For most Leon MK1 owners on 17 inch wheels, the 323mm Sport is where Garreth would start. Cheaper than the 318mm despite the bigger disc, complete kit out of the box, and a solid B32 caliper that suits road driving and trackday use without overspeccing. If the 318mm has a specific advantage for your car, ring us and we will talk through it.
For a Cupra doing regular track sessions, the 330mm Sport adds disc area at a sensible step without moving to a different caliper family. The 340mm Super Sport is worth considering once the car is running serious power or if brake feel consistency on a fast circuit is a priority. The 360mm is the full-build kit and worth a conversation with us before it goes to Tarox.
Ring us on 0115 9893488 with your wheel size and what the car does. Cameron handles the wheel clearance side of things, so have the make and model of your wheels handy and we will work through the options with you.
