Our Top Recommended Big Brake Upgrade Kits For Your Renault Megane

The Megane catalogue for big brake kits is short: three from Tarox and one from HiSpec. Four options total, which is about half what some cars get. On most Meganes it is enough, because the range covers everything from a 15 inch factory wheel up to 17 inch and the value steps are clear. The full Renault Megane range is on the site if you want to browse it raw before reading on.

One thing is worth knowing before you pick a kit. The 284mm Tarox Sport Compact is built on a different platform from the two Sport kits above it: it uses a compact B280/B30 caliper and a solid single-piece cast disc. Move up £9.41 to the 305mm Sport and you get the B32 caliper and the two-piece floating disc that runs through the rest of the Tarox road range. On a car with 15 inch wheels the Compact is the right kit, because the B32 caliper will not clear them. On anything bigger it is a question worth asking.

  • Four kits total: three from Tarox in Italy, one from HiSpec in Dartford
  • Tarox 284mm Sport Compact has a single-piece disc; the 305mm and 315mm Sport kits both use two-piece floating discs
  • All three Tarox kits include Corsa pads and braided hoses, fitted at the factory
  • HiSpec Billet 4 prices pads and hoses separately, so you choose the pad compound for the car's use

Two brands, two different approaches

Tarox and HiSpec both machine their own calipers from billet aluminium and build every kit for the specific car. The difference is in how they supply the kit, and in the disc construction at the entry level.

IT

Tarox

Made at the Tarox factory in northern Italy. Calipers are CNC machined from European billet alloy, hand assembled and individually tested. Braided hoses and Corsa pads arrive pre-fitted in every kit. The 305mm and 315mm Sport kits use two-piece floating discs balanced to 0.05mm. ABS and ESP compatibility is stated on all three kits. Caliper colours are black, red, blue, green or gold.

UK

HiSpec Motorsport

Machined in Dartford from 6082 T6 billet aluminium. Every kit is made to order in up to 28 working days, with a choice of caliper colour: black, red, blue, gold or silver. The Megane kit is the Billet 4, a four-piston design built around a two-piece floating disc. Pads and hoses are priced separately so you pick the compound for the car.

The number that decides it: your wheel size

The entry kit here clears 15 inch wheels. Everything above it needs 16 or 17 inch. Most factory Megane RS models ran 17 or 18 inch alloys, so RS owners with original wheels have the full range open to them. If the car still has 15 inch wheels, only the Tarox 284mm Sport Compact will clear them. The figures below are confirmed per kit, not derived from the disc size.

Wheel depth is what Cameron checksTwo 16 inch wheels can be completely different behind the spokes. The diameter gets you the shortlist; the spoke profile and offset is what Cameron verifies before the kit goes to build. If you are on aftermarket wheels, give him the make and model along with the size. Ring us on 0115 9893488.

Tarox 284mm Sport Compact: the 15 inch option

This kit was designed for cars where the larger Sport caliper will not clear the wheels. It runs the B280/B30 caliper, a compact unit in the Tarox road range, and a solid single-piece cast disc. The Sport Compact is a different product from the Sport kits above it, and that difference matters on track more than it does on the road. As a road upgrade on a car with 15 inch wheels it does the job it was designed for. Pads and braided hoses are included and pre-fitted.

  • £1,981.04 inc VAT, complete kit
  • Clears 15 inch wheels
  • 284 x 26mm single-piece cast disc
  • Corsa pads and braided hoses included, fitted at the factory
  • Caliper colours: black, red, blue, green or gold

HiSpec 300mm Billet 4: the value pick for 16 inch wheels

At £1,464.00 inc VAT the HiSpec sits well below the Tarox options in price, and the gap is real even after you add pads and hoses. A decent road pad set and a braided hose kit typically adds £150 to £200 to the HiSpec cost; the 305mm Tarox Sport at £1,990.45 is still a couple of hundred pounds more at equivalent spec. The Billet 4 is HiSpec’s well-established four-piston caliper, built around a two-piece floating disc, made to order in Dartford in up to 28 working days. Garreth’s view on it is straightforward: on a road car that does not see serious track use, the HiSpec at this price is hard to argue with.

  • £1,464.00 inc VAT
  • Clears 16 inch wheels
  • 300mm two-piece floating disc
  • Pads and braided hoses priced separately, your choice of compound
  • Caliper colours: black, red, blue, gold or silver
  • Made to order in Dartford, up to 28 working days

Tarox 305mm Sport: the step-up worth knowing about

This is where the standard Tarox Sport range starts. The B32 is a six-piston caliper hand assembled in Italy, paired with a 305 x 26mm two-piece floating disc balanced to 0.05mm. Pads and braided hoses are included. The price is £1,990.45 inc VAT, which is £9.41 more than the 284mm Sport Compact. For that £9.41 you get the B32 caliper and the floating disc. On any car where the wheels will clear a 16 inch kit, Garreth’s default answer is the 305mm. There is very little reason to go the other way.

  • £1,990.45 inc VAT, complete kit
  • Clears 16 inch wheels
  • 305 x 26mm two-piece floating disc, balanced to 0.05mm
  • B32 six-piston caliper, hand assembled in Italy
  • Corsa pads and braided hoses included, fitted at the factory
  • Disc styles: F2000, Sport Japan, C83, D95

Tarox 315mm Sport: the 17 inch track pick

The 315mm Sport is the largest kit available for the Megane in this catalogue. It uses the same B32 six-piston caliper as the 305mm kit, with a 315 x 26mm two-piece floating disc. Wheel clearance is 17 inch. There is no HiSpec option at this size; if you are on 17s and want the biggest disc here, this is it. Pads and braided hoses are included. For an RS on factory 17 inch wheels doing track days, this is the pick Cameron and Garreth would reach for.

  • £2,044.00 inc VAT, complete kit
  • Needs 17 inch wheels minimum
  • 315 x 26mm two-piece floating disc, balanced to 0.05mm
  • B32 six-piston caliper, hand assembled in Italy
  • Corsa pads and braided hoses included, fitted at the factory
  • No HiSpec equivalent at this disc size

What is actually in each box

The headline prices sit further apart than the finished builds do. All three Tarox kits arrive with pads and hoses included; HiSpec price them separately. Add a compound and a hose set to the HiSpec and the gap from the Tarox 305mm closes, though there is still a difference. Compare the finished build cost, not the sticker price.

Common questions

Will this fit a Renault Megane RS?

Every kit on this page is listed for the Renault Megane. Most RS models ran 17 or 18 inch factory alloys, so the 315mm Sport is usually the natural starting point for an RS. If the RS has aftermarket wheels, Cameron will check the exact clearance before anything is built. Ring us on 0115 9893488.

What is the difference between the Sport Compact and the Sport?

The 284mm Sport Compact runs a B280/B30 caliper and a single-piece cast disc. The Sport kits (305mm and 315mm) use the B32 six-piston caliper and two-piece floating discs balanced to 0.05mm at the factory. The Compact is designed for cars where the B32 caliper will not clear the factory wheels. On anything 16 inch or larger, the 305mm Sport is £9.41 more and a better product.

Why is the HiSpec cheaper than the Tarox kits?

The HiSpec 300mm Billet 4 (£1,464.00 inc VAT) prices pads and hoses separately. The 305mm Tarox Sport (£1,990.45 inc VAT) includes both in the box. Add a road pad set and braided hoses to the HiSpec and the gap closes, though the Tarox is still more expensive at an equivalent spec. The remaining difference is caliper design and manufacturing tradition: a four-piston UK caliper against a six-piston Italian one with a disc balanced to tighter tolerances.

How long will the HiSpec kit take to arrive?

HiSpec make their kits to order in Dartford. Allow up to 28 working days. Tarox lead times vary by kit and time of year; we will give you the current figure when you order on 0115 9893488.

Will these work with my ABS and ESP?

All three Tarox kits state full ABS and ESP compatibility. For HiSpec, tell us the full Megane specification when you order and we will confirm the details with HiSpec before the kit goes to build.

What we would actually fit

On a car with 16 inch or larger wheels, the 305mm Tarox Sport is the sensible answer for most Meganes. It is £9.41 more than the 284mm Sport Compact and a meaningfully better product: B32 caliper, two-piece floating disc. That is not a close call.

If the wheels are 15 inch and the Sport caliper will not clear them, the Sport Compact does what it was designed for and Tarox know this range well.

For a road car where budget is the main concern and track days are not on the schedule, the HiSpec Billet 4 at £1,464.00 is hard to ignore. Add a compound and hoses and it is still below the Tarox Sport at equivalent spec. A well-made Dartford caliper and a two-piece disc is a real brake upgrade, and on most road Meganes it is plenty.

The 315mm Sport is for 17 inch wheels and genuine circuit use. It is the largest kit in this catalogue and there is no bigger option here, so if the car needs more than it offers, that is a different conversation.

Ring us on 0115 9893488 with the wheel size and what the car does. Checking that a kit clears your specific wheels is Cameron’s corner of the business, and it takes about five minutes.

What is the best big brake kit for a Renault Megane?

For most Meganes on 16 inch wheels or bigger, the Tarox 305mm Sport is the sensible answer, it comes with pads and braided hoses already fitted. If budget’s tight, the HiSpec 300mm Billet 4 offers strong value on the same size wheels. For track-focused RS models on 17 inch wheels, step up to the 315mm Tarox kit.
