Our Top Recommended Big Brake Upgrade Kits For Your Nissan Skyline R32
There is no Billet 4 entry kit for the R32. The cheapest kit in this catalogue is a Monster 4, which tells you something about the car. R32s tend to arrive at us already modified, or at least with a clear plan for what they are becoming. The standard brakes were already marginal for the GT-R at the factory; on a car with more power and track use behind it, a big brake conversion is usually the first phone call rather than the last.
Five kits are on this page, from Tarox in northern Italy and HiSpec Motorsport in Dartford. They cover 16 inch to 18 inch wheels and a price range from £1,650 to £2,280, and one of the things worth knowing before you look at the table is that the biggest disc on the page is not the most expensive. The full R32 range is on the site if you want to browse it directly.
- Five kits, from Monster 4 to Mega Monster and Tarox 6pot Sport
- Wheel requirements: 16 inch for Tarox 310mm, 17 inch for everything else, 18 inch for the Mega Monster
- Tarox kits arrive with braided hoses and Corsa pads already fitted; HiSpec price pads and hoses separately
- Both brands cover the R32 without a GT-R badge qualifier: all five kits are listed for the Skyline R32

Two brands, two ways of building a brake kit
Both companies machine their own calipers from billet aluminium and build every kit to the specific car. The split between them on the R32 is mainly the box: what arrives when you open the packaging, and what still needs ordering separately.
Tarox
Built at the factory in northern Italy. Calipers are CNC machined from European billet alloy and hand assembled, discs are heat treated and hand balanced to 0.05mm. Both R32 kits are six piston Sport builds. They arrive complete with vehicle specific braided hoses and Corsa pads already fitted and ready to bleed in.
HiSpec Motorsport
Machined in Dartford from 6082 T6 billet aluminium, calipers and pistons both. Three R32 kits across Monster 4, Monster 6 and Mega Monster. Made to order in up to 28 working days, with the calipers finished in your choice of black, red, blue, gold or silver. Pads and braided hoses are priced separately so you pick the compound.
Wheel sizes: real numbers for every kit
Minimum wheel diameter is a property of the kit, not the car. A disc is a disc and a caliper is a caliper; the envelope they occupy does not change from one R32 to another. The Tarox figures here were looked up from their own published product pages for these exact part numbers. The HiSpec numbers come from their published statements across the catalogue. The only variable that stays car and wheel specific is depth: how close the spoke profile sits to the face of the disc.
The distribution on the R32 is worth noting. Four of the five kits require 17 inch wheels. Only the Tarox 310mm fits inside a 16 inch, and only the Mega Monster pushes to 18. If the car is currently on standard 17s you have four kits to choose from, which is where most conversations start.
| Kit | Disc | Smallest wheel |
|---|---|---|
| Tarox 310mm Sport | 310mm, 2P | 16 inch |
| HiSpec Monster 4 | 335mm, 2P | 17 inch |
| HiSpec Monster 6 | 335mm, 2P | 17 inch |
| Tarox 330mm Sport | 330mm, 2P | 17 inch |
| HiSpec Mega Monster | 360mm, 2P | 18 inch |
HiSpec 335mm Monster 4: the entry Monster
£1,650.00 including VAT, four pistons, 335mm two piece floating disc, 17 inch minimum. This is the starting point on the R32, and compared to where most Japanese sports car guides begin in this series, it is already a proper caliper. The Monster 4 runs larger pistons than the Billet 4 with higher temperature seals and stainless wear plates, which makes it a better fit for a car with track use behind it than one used mostly on the road.
Pads and hoses are priced separately, which is how HiSpec work on most kits. For a road car, budget a pad set and a pair of braided hoses on top of the headline price. For track use, ask us what compound suits what the car does and Cameron will point you in the right direction.
- £1,650.00 inc VAT
- 17 inch minimum wheel size
- 335 x 28mm two piece floating discs
- Monster 4 caliper, four pistons, high temperature seals
- Pads and braided hoses priced separately, five caliper colours
HiSpec 335mm Monster 6: more pistons, same wheel
Same 335mm disc, same 17 inch wheel requirement, but six pistons where the Monster 4 uses four. The extra pistons give more contact area across the pad face, which means the load spreads more evenly and the pedal stays more consistent as the brakes get hot. On a road car that distinction is hard to feel in normal use. On a car doing multiple track sessions in a day it is the difference between a pedal that holds its shape and one that goes long on the last stint.
At £1,773.00 it is £123 more than the Monster 4 for the same disc and the same wheel requirement. Garreth’s call: road use only, take the Monster 4 and spend the difference on a good pad. For track use, the six pot is the right answer.
- £1,773.00 inc VAT
- 17 inch minimum wheel size
- 335 x 28mm two piece floating discs
- Monster 6 caliper, six pistons for consistent pedal feel under heat
- Pads and braided hoses priced separately, made to order in up to 28 working days
Tarox 310mm 6pot Sport: fits inside a 16 inch wheel
The smaller of the two Tarox kits and the only one on this page that clears a 16 inch wheel. If the R32 is on standard 16s and those wheels are staying, this is the complete Tarox answer: six piston billet caliper, two piece floating disc balanced to 0.05mm, Corsa pads pre-fitted and vehicle specific braided hoses in the box before it leaves Italy.
Worth saying plainly: at £2,094.00 it costs more than the HiSpec Mega Monster, which uses a 360mm disc and needs 18 inch wheels. This is not a data error; Tarox Sport kits carry a premium for the complete box, and the 16 inch fitment is a real consideration for anyone not planning to change wheels. If you are already on 17s or 18s, the HiSpec options and the Tarox 330mm will suit you better on both disc size and value.
- £2,094.00 inc VAT, complete
- Fits inside a 16 inch wheel
- 310mm two piece floating disc, balanced to 0.05mm
- Six piston B32 caliper, hand assembled in Italy
- Corsa pads and braided hoses included and fitted
HiSpec 360mm Mega Monster: the biggest disc for less
A 360mm two piece disc, HiSpec’s largest caliper, and at £2,033.82 it is the cheaper of the two kits in the £2,000 bracket. That is worth saying clearly: the Mega Monster costs £60.18 less than the Tarox 310mm, and it is a considerably larger disc. The trade is that you need 18 inch wheels to run it, and pads and braided hoses are priced separately where the Tarox 310mm includes both.
For an R32 already on 18s, the Mega Monster is where Garreth would look first in this range. You get the most disc, the biggest caliper, and the lowest price among the top three kits on the page. On a car that has been built towards track use, that combination is hard to argue with.
- £2,033.82 inc VAT
- 18 inch minimum wheel size
- 360 x 28mm two piece floating discs
- Mega Monster caliper, HiSpec's largest R32 build
- Pads and braided hoses priced separately, five caliper colours
Tarox 330mm 6pot Sport: the complete Tarox kit for 17 inch wheels
The larger Tarox option for the R32, and the one that suits a car already on 17 inch wheels. Six piston Sport caliper, 330mm two piece floating disc balanced to 0.05mm, Corsa pads fitted and braided hoses in the box. At £2,280.00 it is £186.18 more than the Mega Monster and £630.00 above the HiSpec Monster 4, and what you are paying for in both cases is the complete, nothing-left-to-source package from a single manufacturer.
Set against the Monster 6 at £1,773.00, the gap narrows once you add pads and hoses to the HiSpec kit. If you want a finished Tarox box and you are on 17s, this is it. If you are willing to source your own compound and hoses, the Monster 6 at the same wheel size is the value pick.
- £2,280.00 inc VAT, complete
- 17 inch minimum wheel size
- 330mm two piece floating disc, balanced to 0.05mm
- Six piston B32 Sport caliper, hand assembled in Italy
- Corsa pads and braided hoses included and fitted
What is actually in each box
The headline prices are the starting point, not the finished build. HiSpec price the hardware without pads or braided hoses, so you add those separately and pick the compound for how the car is used. Tarox include both and pre-fit the pads before the kit ships. Once both are specced to the same level, the gap between the brands is smaller than the headline numbers suggest.

Prices include VAT and were correct on 1 September 2026. Tarox minimum wheel sizes confirmed from their product pages: KMNI0634-SKY (310mm) = 16 inch, KMNI0040-SKY (330mm) = 17 inch. HiSpec figures from their published statements across the catalogue. The table is sorted by price, which puts the Mega Monster below the Tarox 310mm despite being a larger disc; that reflects the difference in what each box includes.
Common questions
Which kit fits behind my standard R32 wheels?
Standard Skyline R32 wheels were 15 and 16 inch on early cars and 17 inch on later variants, though most have been changed to aftermarket wheels by now. The Tarox 310mm is the only kit here that fits inside a 16 inch wheel. The two HiSpec Monster kits and the Tarox 330mm all need 17 inch minimum. The Mega Monster needs 18. Give Cameron the wheel size and make if you are on aftermarket fitments and he will check the clearance before anything is ordered.
Do the HiSpec kits include pads and hoses?
No, pads and braided hoses are priced separately on all three HiSpec kits. That is the standard arrangement on these kits, and it means you pick the compound for the car, not just take what is in the box. We will quote the full build for you so you can compare properly against the Tarox kits, which include both.
Does the GT-R get different kits to the standard R32?
Not in this catalogue. Both Tarox and HiSpec list all five kits under Nissan Skyline R32 without distinguishing the GT-R from the GTS or GTS-t variants. Two Brembo kits are listed for the GT-R Front specifically and both are available on the site, but they are outside this guide's scope (we cover Tarox and HiSpec in this series). If you want fitment confirmation on a GT-R before ordering, ring us with the registration and we will check it with the manufacturer.
Why is the 360mm Mega Monster cheaper than the 310mm Tarox?
The Mega Monster prices pads and hoses separately; the Tarox 310mm includes both. Once you add those to the Mega Monster, the gap closes. The 310mm Tarox also fits inside a 16 inch wheel, which the Mega Monster does not. If you are on 18s, take the Mega Monster. If you need 16 inch clearance, take the Tarox. The headline prices do not tell the whole story on their own.
How long before it arrives?
HiSpec kits are made to order in Dartford, allow up to 28 working days. Tarox kits are built for the specific car at the factory in Italy and lead times vary through the year. Ask when you order and we will give you the current picture from both manufacturers.
What we would actually fit
On a standard R32 on 17 inch wheels, the HiSpec Monster 4 at £1,650.00 is where we would start, with the Monster 6 at £1,773.00 for a car that does track sessions. Both use the same disc and clear the same wheel, and the difference is piston count. For most road use the four pot is fine; for repeated fast laps the six pot holds its pedal feel better under heat.
If the car is on 18s and the budget runs to it, the Mega Monster at £2,033.82 is the natural next step, and it is cheaper than either Tarox kit. For the buyer who wants one complete box with nothing left to source, the Tarox 330mm at £2,280.00 is the tidiest package here for 17 inch wheels, and the Tarox 310mm at £2,094.00 is the only option for keeping a 16 inch fitment. Ring us on 0115 9893488 with your wheel size and what the car does at weekends. Working out what clears and what fouls is Cameron’s corner of the business, so have the wheel make and model ready and you will get a straight answer, usually in a few minutes.
