Our Top Recommended Big Brake Upgrade Kits For Your Fiat Punto MK2
The Fiat Punto MK2 ends up in the brake conversation more often than you might expect. It ran in club racing in big numbers, the later hot hatches got modified heavily, and the ones we see now are usually further along than a standard car. The brakes are often the last thing on the list. If you have landed here because you are working out which kit fits the Punto MK2, this page covers the range.
The two brands we stock for big brake conversions are Tarox, from northern Italy, and HiSpec Motorsport, from Dartford. One thing worth knowing before the picks: the Tarox range for the Punto prices unexpectedly. The 284mm entry kit costs more than the bigger 305mm Sport above it. We cover that properly in the picks below, but if you want to scan ahead, the comparison table has all the numbers. The full Punto MK2 brake range is on the site if you want to browse it raw.
- Every kit converts the front axle: calipers, discs, mounting brackets and fitting hardware
- Tarox kits span 15 to 18 inch wheel clearance depending on the kit, all figures confirmed from Tarox's own product pages for these exact Punto MK2 kits
- Tarox arrive complete with braided hoses and Corsa pads fitted; HiSpec price pads and hoses separately so you choose the compound
- The range is predominantly Tarox; one HiSpec kit covers the Punto MK2, but it is the least expensive option on this page

Two brands, two ways of building a brake kit
Both machine their own calipers from billet aluminium and build every kit for the specific car it is going on. Where they differ is what arrives in the box and how the kit is priced.
Tarox
Built at the Tarox factory in northern Italy. Calipers are CNC machined from European billet alloy and hand assembled, discs are heat treated and hand balanced to 0.05mm. Every Punto MK2 kit arrives complete: braided hoses and Corsa pads already fitted, plus vehicle specific brackets and fitting hardware. Tarox state full compatibility with ABS and ESP. Five caliper colours.
HiSpec Motorsport
Machined in Dartford from 6082 T6 billet aluminium, calipers and pistons both. One Billet 4 kit covers the Punto MK2. Made to order in up to 28 working days, caliper in black, red, blue, gold or silver. Pads and braided hoses are priced separately so you choose the compound to suit how the car is used.
A note on the brand balance: one HiSpec kit covers the Punto MK2 against five Tarox kits, so this guide leans Tarox more than most in the series. Garreth’s picks reflect the actual catalogue, and the one HiSpec kit earns its place on price.
Wheel sizes: real numbers for every kit
Minimum wheel diameter is a property of the kit, not the car. A disc is a disc and a caliper is a caliper, so a figure published against one car holds wherever that kit is listed. The Tarox figures below were confirmed directly from tarox.co.uk for these exact Punto MK2 kits. HiSpec’s 315mm figure comes from 103 published statements across the catalogue for the Billet 4 family at that disc size. The only check that stays a conversation is depth: a wheel of the right diameter can still foul the caliper at the spokes. Tell Cameron the wheel make and model alongside the size and he will confirm the clearance before anything goes to build.
| Kit | Disc | Smallest wheel |
|---|---|---|
| Tarox 284mm Sport Compact | 284mm | 15 inch |
| HiSpec 315mm Billet 4 | 315mm | 16 inch |
| Tarox 305mm Sport | 305mm | 16 inch |
| Tarox 318mm Sport | 318mm | 17 inch |
| Tarox 330mm Sport | 330mm | 17 inch |
| Tarox 340mm Super Sport | 340mm | 18 inch |
Tarox 284mm Sport Compact: the only kit for 15 inch wheels
For a Punto MK2 that needs to stay on 15 inch wheels, this is the only kit in the range that clears them. The Sport Compact is a different product to the other Tarox kits on this page. It runs a single piece cast disc rather than the two piece floating discs on the Sport range, and the caliper, while still CNC machined from billet aluminium at the Tarox factory, sits in a more compact envelope designed for a smaller wheel.
One pricing note before the facts: this kit costs more than the bigger 305mm Sport above it, at £1,997 inc VAT against the 305mm’s £1,861. That is not a data error. The compact design costs more to engineer for the space it occupies. The kit still arrives complete with braided hoses and Corsa pads fitted. If the 15 inch wheels are a hard constraint, this is your Tarox option. If you plan to change the wheels, read the 305mm pick next.
- £1,997 inc VAT
- Clears 15 inch wheels (the only kit in this range that does)
- 284mm single piece cast disc, heat treated
- 6 piston billet aluminium caliper, hand assembled in Italy
- Braided hoses and Corsa pads included and fitted
HiSpec 315mm Billet 4: the value pick on 16 inch wheels
At £1,130 inc VAT this is the least expensive kit on this page by a wide margin. It offers a bigger disc than the Tarox 284mm compact, at 315mm against 284mm, for £867 less. The Billet 4 is HiSpec’s most used caliper: four pistons, external boots to keep road grime off the seals, machined in Dartford from 6082 T6 billet aluminium. It clears a 16 inch wheel.
Pads and hoses are priced separately, so budget for both alongside the kit. HiSpec make this to order, up to 28 working days, with the caliper in your choice of black, red, blue, gold or silver. It is the only HiSpec kit listed for the Punto MK2, which is why the guide leans Tarox above and below it, but at this price it earns its place. For a fast road Punto that is not being campaigned hard, Garreth would start here.
- £1,130 inc VAT
- Clears 16 inch wheels
- 315mm conversion disc
- 4 piston Billet 4 caliper, made to order in Dartford
- Pads and hoses priced separately, your choice of compound
- Made to order in up to 28 working days, five caliper colours
Tarox 305mm Sport: the better starting point in the Tarox range
This is where the Tarox Sport range starts for the Punto, and it is the correct entry if you want a Tarox kit with a two piece floating disc. Bigger disc than the 284mm compact at 305mm, a proper two piece floater rather than a single piece, and it costs less at £1,861 inc VAT. The same B32 six piston caliper runs through the Sport range, hand assembled at the Tarox factory in northern Italy.
Everything is in the box: braided hoses, Corsa pads already installed, vehicle specific brackets and fitting hardware. It needs 16 inch wheels. If you are choosing between this and the 284mm compact, Garreth’s answer is straightforward: go to the 305 unless 15 inch wheels are a hard constraint you cannot change.
- £1,861 inc VAT
- Clears 16 inch wheels
- 305mm two piece floating disc, balanced to 0.05mm
- 6 piston B32 caliper, hand assembled in Italy
- Braided hoses and Corsa pads included and fitted
Tarox 318mm Sport: stepping to 17 inch
The 318mm Sport moves to a larger disc and takes you into 17 inch territory. Same B32 caliper, same complete kit with braided hoses and Corsa pads, but a bigger two piece floating disc for more thermal mass on repeated hard stops. The step from 305 to 318mm costs around £160. If the Punto is doing track evenings and the car has been worked on mechanically, this is where Garreth would start looking.
- £2,020 inc VAT
- Clears 17 inch wheels
- 318mm two piece floating disc, balanced to 0.05mm
- 6 piston B32 caliper, hand assembled in Italy
- Braided hoses and Corsa pads included and fitted
Tarox 330mm Sport: the track pick at 17 inch
The 330mm Sport is the largest disc in the Tarox Sport range for the Punto MK2 and the kit that makes sense once the car is doing serious track work. It still clears 17 inch wheels. At £2,280 inc VAT it is the most expensive six piston kit here before the flagship. The step from 318 to 330mm keeps the same wheel clearance, so on 17s this is a question of how hard and how long the car is being braked, not wheel size.
- £2,280 inc VAT
- Clears 17 inch wheels
- 330mm two piece floating disc, balanced to 0.05mm
- 6 piston B32 caliper, hand assembled in Italy
- Braided hoses and Corsa pads included and fitted
If the car is on 18s
Above the Sport range sits the Tarox 340mm Super Sport. It needs 18 inch wheels and is the right answer for a Punto that has had genuine power work and is running wider rubber. The listing titles say 10 pot, which is the older B34 designation; the current caliper is the B34GT, running eight sequentially sized pistons so the pads wear evenly and the pedal stays consistent as the brakes get hot. Same complete kit: hoses, brackets and Corsa pads already fitted. At £2,610 inc VAT this is the serious end of the range.
What is actually in each box
One difference from the usual pattern in this series: on the Punto MK2, all Tarox kits include braided hoses and pads. The Sport Compact, the Sport range and the Super Sport all arrive complete. The only kit on this page that prices pads and hoses separately is the HiSpec 315mm Billet 4, which is how HiSpec give you control over the compound. Price the HiSpec at finished build cost before comparing it against the Tarox headline.
| In the box | HiSpec 315mm Billet 4 | Tarox Sport / Super Sport |

Common questions
Why does the smaller Tarox 284mm kit cost more than the bigger 305mm?
The 284mm Sport Compact is a different product line from the Sport range. It uses a single piece cast disc rather than a two piece floating disc, and the caliper sits in a more compact envelope to clear a 15 inch wheel. The engineering cost of that compact design is higher. If your Punto is on 15 inch wheels that you plan to keep, the compact is still the right Tarox option for wheel clearance reasons. If the wheels are going to change, the 305mm Sport is the better starting point on price and disc quality.
Will these kits work with my ABS?
Tarox state full compatibility with ABS and ESP on every kit in this range, confirmed at the product level. For the HiSpec 315mm Billet 4, confirm the exact car and spec when ordering and we will verify with HiSpec before the kit goes to build.
Why are pads and hoses extra on the HiSpec?
HiSpec price their kits without pads or hoses so you choose the compound to match how the car is used: a standard road pad for daily driving and something more aggressive for track work. Both pads and braided hoses can be added to the order. All Tarox kits on this page include both, so the HiSpec headline price is not a like-for-like comparison until the extras are added.
How long does a HiSpec kit take?
HiSpec kits are made to order in Dartford. Allow up to 28 working days. Tarox kits are built for the specific car at the factory in Italy; lead times vary through the year, so ask when you order and we will give you the current picture.
Are there rear kits for the Punto MK2?
Everything on this page is a front axle conversion, which is where most of the braking happens and the right place to start on a road car. If you want rear brakes to match, talk to us before ordering and we will spec both ends together so the balance stays right.
What we would actually fit
On a Punto MK2 staying on 15 inch wheels, the 284mm Sport Compact is the only Tarox option. Worth knowing before you order that it costs more than the 305mm Sport, so if the wheels are changing anyway, sort that first. For 16 inch wheels, Garreth’s starting point is the HiSpec 315mm at £1,130: it is a proper kit at roughly half the price of the Tarox entry, and for a fast road Punto it is hard to argue against that number. If you want to stay in the Tarox Sport range, start at the 305mm rather than the compact. Bigger disc, better disc construction, lower price.
For track work on 17 inch wheels the 318mm Sport covers most Punto builds. The 330mm is the step if the car is doing long sessions or has real power behind it. The 340mm Super Sport at 18 inch is for a Punto that is genuinely fast and running wider rubber.
