Brembo Upgrade is not one kit. It is a programme of vehicle-specific systems, and the caliper family, disc size and disc face all change from car to car. Pick the listing that matches your car, then check the clearance drawing on that page against your wheels before you order.
The Brembo GT caliper range, from the two piece GT-A to the billet GT-R
The caliper families
Every kit on this site names its caliper family in the specification. This is what they mean.
GT-A. A two piece caliper derived from Brembo’s original equipment work. The easiest of the family to install, and the usual choice for a road car that sees the odd track day.
GT-M. Monobloc, machined from one piece of aluminium, so it holds its shape better under heat. This is the one Brembo specifies for cars that see regular track use.
GT-BM. The newest family, cast with Brembo’s 4D process. The fluid passages run inside the caliper body and the bleed screw is hidden, so there are no external pipes to catch.
GT-S. Billet aluminium with a nickel finish, racing style piston radiators and recessed dust seals, built the way Brembo builds its Formula 1 and NASCAR calipers.
GT-R. Billet and hard anodised, with the Brembo logo engraved and filled red as on the competition calipers. The top of the range.
Reading a Brembo part number
A number like 1M19017A1 tells you the whole specification once you know the pattern.
First character: axle. 1 is front, 2 is rear.
Second character: caliper family.
Third character: disc face. 1 is cross-drilled, 3 is Type 3 slotted.
Last character: caliper finish. 1 black, 2 red, 3 silver, 4 gold, 5 yellow, 6 white, 7 fluorescent yellow. S is a GT-S caliper and R is a GT-R.
Every listing shows the full part numbers for each finish, so you can check what you are ordering.
The Brembo GT disc range, cross-drilled and Type 3 slotted two piece discs
Discs
Most GT systems use a two piece disc: an iron ring on an aluminium bell. Cross-drilled and Type 3 slotted cost the same from Brembo, so the choice is about how you use the car. The Type 3 slot pattern is what Brembo runs in professional motorsport. It gives a strong initial bite and keeps the pad face clean. Replacement rings are listed separately and bolt to the bell already on the car.
Before you order
Wheel clearance is what catches people out. The caliper needs a specific wheel offset and spoke shape, and a GT-R caliper does not need the same space as the GT version of the same kit. Every kit page carries Brembo’s clearance drawing with the A, B and C dimensions. Send us your wheel size, offset and make and we will read it against your car before anything is ordered.
Brake work is safety critical. Brembo asks that these systems are fitted by a qualified technician, and the car should not be driven until the system has been checked, bled and road tested to the instructions supplied with the kit.
