Our Top Recommended Big Brake Upgrade Kits For Your Toyota Celica
Ordering a brake kit for a Toyota Celica starts with the chassis code, not the disc size. The Celica badge covered three distinct eras: the T182-series cars of the early 1990s (that is the ST182 and the GT-Four ST185), then the T202-series MK6 (ST202 and the rally-homologation ST205), and finally the 1.8 16V T230 that ran from 1999 to 2006. Tarox build a separate kit for each chassis because the brackets are vehicle-specific, and the kits are not interchangeable. Get the chassis code from the V5 or a Toyota dealer and order from there.
There are eight Tarox kits listed for the Celica. HiSpec do not currently cover this car, so this guide is Tarox only. Every kit is a complete front axle conversion: braided hoses and Corsa pads arrive in the box and the pads come pre-fitted. The full Celica range is on the site if you want to browse it directly.
- All kits are front axle conversions, built to fit the specific chassis at the Tarox factory in northern Italy
- Pads (Corsa compound, pre-fitted) and braided hoses are included in every kit
- Two disc sizes: 318mm Sport (B32, 6 piston) and 340mm Super Sport (B34GT, 8 piston)
- Wheel clearance differs between early and later chassis on the 340mm kits, the table below shows why

Tarox and the Celica range
Tarox is the only brand we stock for this car. HiSpec do not manufacture a kit for any Celica chassis at present, so this guide covers Tarox only, which is not unusual in the series for Japanese cars with a narrower following in Europe.
Tarox
Made at the Tarox factory in northern Italy. Calipers are CNC machined from European billet alloy and hand assembled, discs are heat treated and hand balanced to 0.05mm. Each kit is built for the specific vehicle it is listed against. Pads (Corsa compound) arrive pre-fitted in the calipers, and vehicle-specific braided hoses are in the box. Tarox state full compatibility with ABS and ESP.
Toyota Celica generations
Three generations in the Tarox catalogue. T182-series (1989-1993): front-wheel drive ST182 and four-wheel-drive GT-Four ST185. T202-series (1993-1999): front-wheel-drive ST202 and four-wheel-drive GT-Four ST205. T230-series (1999-2006): 1.8 16V, front-wheel drive. The brackets for each kit are specific to that chassis, so ordering the right one matters before anything else.
One external link: tarox.com carries the clearance template Tarox use to confirm fit against specific wheels, and a PDF is available to request if Cameron needs to check a non-standard wheel before the kit is built.
Wheel sizes by chassis and disc
The important finding here is that the early GT-Four 340mm Super Sport kits (ST182 and ST185) are confirmed by Tarox as clearing a 17 inch wheel, not the 18 inch that most of our 340mm kits need. That is a direct result of a different caliper geometry on those chassis-specific brackets, and the figures come from Tarox’s own published data, not our catalogue text. The newer ST205 and 1.8 340mm kits do need 18 inch.
The 1.8 16V 318mm Sport is the only Tarox 318mm kit in this catalogue confirmed at 16 inch minimum. The other three 318mm variants all need 17 inch. On a stock T230 with standard 16 inch wheels, the Sport kit fits without any change.
| Kit | Disc | Smallest wheel |
|---|---|---|
| 318mm Sport (1.8 16V, T230) | 318 x 28mm | 16 inch |
| 318mm Sport (ST182) | 318 x 28mm | 17 inch |
| 318mm Sport (ST185) | 318 x 28mm | 17 inch |
| 318mm Sport (ST202) | 318 x 28mm | 17 inch |
| 340mm Super Sport (ST182) | 340 x 26mm | 17 inch |
| 340mm Super Sport (ST185) | 340 x 26mm | 17 inch |
| 340mm Super Sport (ST205) | 340 x 26mm | 18 inch |
| 340mm Super Sport (1.8 16V) | 340 x 26mm | 18 inch |
1.8 16V 318mm Sport: the T230 kit that clears 16 inch
The T230 generation is the most common UK Celica, the one people mean when they say a “modern Celica”. If it is on stock 16 inch wheels, this is the only Sport kit in the Celica range confirmed to clear them. The 318mm disc pairs with the B32 6-piston caliper that Tarox have been building for 30 years, and on a road car that gets the occasional track day this combination gives a meaningful step on the standard brakes.
The kit arrives complete: pads pre-fitted, braided hoses, brackets and all hardware. Caliper in black, red, blue, green or gold, selected at order.
- £2,050.00 inc VAT, complete kit
- Clears 16 inch wheels (confirmed by Tarox, KMTO0518)
- 318 x 28mm two piece floating disc
- B32 6-piston caliper, Corsa pads pre-fitted, braided hoses included
- Five caliper colours to choose at order
ST182 and ST185 318mm Sport: the GT-Four entry point
The T182-series cars share the same 318mm Sport kit reference, but there are two separate listings: KMTO0296-CEL for the ST185 GT-Four and KMTO0296-CEL for the ST182 version. Both run the same B32 6-piston caliper at the same price, and both need 17 inch wheels. Select the listing that matches your chassis plate, because the brackets are built for that car.
The ST185 is the four-wheel drive GT-Four; the ST182 is the front-wheel-drive equivalent from the same period. Worth knowing the difference before ordering, because the two cars share the same appearance from the outside.
- £2,050.00 inc VAT each, complete kit
- Both need 17 inch wheels
- 318 x 28mm two piece floating disc, B32 6-piston caliper
- Separate listing for ST182 and ST185: order the one that matches the chassis code
- Pads pre-fitted, braided hoses and all brackets in the box
ST202 318mm Sport: the MK6 standard car
The ST202 was the front-wheel-drive version of the MK6 Celica sold in the UK from 1993 onwards. It shares no fitment with the ST205 GT-Four, which ran a different suspension setup. This listing (KMTO0812-CEL) is specific to the ST202 and needs 17 inch wheels. Same B32 caliper and the same price as the other 318mm kits.
If you have a MK6 but are not sure which variant it is, the chassis plate on the door jamb will say ST202 or ST205. The ST205 only option in the 340mm section below, and it needs 18 inch wheels, so it is worth confirming before ordering.
- £2,050.00 inc VAT, complete kit
- Needs 17 inch wheels (confirmed by Tarox, KMTO0812)
- 318 x 28mm two piece floating disc, B32 6-piston caliper
- ST202 specific: does not fit the ST205
- Pads pre-fitted, hoses and brackets in the box
ST182 and ST185 340mm Super Sport: the flagship that fits 17 inch
The two early GT-Four Super Sport kits carry a detail that does not show up anywhere else in the Celica catalogue. Tarox’s own data puts both the ST182 and ST185 340mm kits at 17 inch minimum, when the same disc on most other cars needs 18 inch. That is a genuine published figure from Tarox, not an estimate, and it means the flagship kit goes on the early cars without a wheel upgrade if they are already on 17s.
One clarification on naming: the listing calls this the 10 pot, which is the label Tarox used on an older caliper design. The current B34GT runs eight sequentially sized pistons, which is what the description says and what arrives. Sequential sizing is a better engineering approach for consistent pedal feel as the brakes heat up, so the 8-piston B34GT is the correct and current product.
- £2,610.00 inc VAT each, complete kit
- Both clear 17 inch wheels (Tarox published, KMTO0484)
- 340 x 26mm two piece floating disc, B34GT 8-piston sequential caliper
- Separate listing for ST182 and ST185, same price, same disc and caliper
- Corsa pads pre-fitted, braided hoses and brackets included
If the car is on 18s
The ST205 and 1.8 16V Super Sport kits both need 18 inch wheels. The ST205 is £2,610.00 inc VAT; the 1.8 16V is £2,670.00 for the same disc and caliper, reflecting a different bracket geometry. Both are listed below. If you are on the fence about whether an 18 inch wheel will fit the car in the first place, give Cameron the wheel spec and he will run the clearance check before anything is ordered.

Common questions
How do I find my chassis code?
The chassis code is on the VIN plate, usually on the door jamb or under the bonnet. It will say ST182, ST185, ST202, ST205 or, for the T230 generation from 1999, the engine code will be 1ZZ-FE (the standard 1.8) or 2ZZ-GE (the VVTL-i). For a kit enquiry the chassis code is more useful than the engine code, so find that first. If you are unsure, a Toyota dealer can look it up from the registration.
Will the Sport kit fit behind my standard wheels?
For a T230 1.8 16V on standard 16 inch wheels, yes: the KMTO0518 Sport kit is confirmed by Tarox at 16 inch minimum. For the T182 and T202 generations on standard 15 inch wheels, no: the 318mm kit needs 17 inch. For anything on aftermarket wheels, tell Cameron the wheel make and model and he will run the clearance figures with Tarox before ordering.
What does the 10 pot label mean on the Super Sport listings?
The 10 pot name applies to an older Tarox caliper design. The current Super Sport ships with the B34GT caliper, which runs eight sequentially sized pistons. The description in each listing confirms eight pistons, and that is the kit that arrives. Sequential sizing means the pad contacts the disc evenly across its face as it wears, which is why Tarox switched to it. One honest sentence: the title is out of date, the description and the product are correct.
Why is there no HiSpec option?
HiSpec do not currently manufacture a kit for any Toyota Celica chassis. If that changes we will update this page. In the meantime, the Tarox range covers all four variants listed here and is the only option we stock.
How long will it take to arrive?
Tarox kits are built to order at the factory in Italy. Lead times vary through the year, so ask when you place the order and we will give you the current picture. A usual build is a few weeks from order. The pads arrive pre-fitted and the kit is ready to install once it lands.
What we would actually fit
For a T230 on standard 16 inch wheels, the 318mm Sport is the only choice that does not involve a wheel change, and it is a solid one. On a car that does track days the Corsa pads hold up well and the 318mm floating disc is a meaningful upgrade over the standard setup.
On an early GT-Four, Garreth’s view is that the 340mm Super Sport is worth it if you are on 17s, and the wheel-size finding in this guide is the reason: you do not need to change the wheels to run the biggest kit the car has. The ST185 in particular is a car that takes the work well, and the B34GT is the right caliper for it.
If you are not certain which kit clears your current wheels, call us on 0115 9893488. Wheel clearance is Cameron’s part of the job, and five minutes on the phone with the wheel make and model saves a lot of time later.
