Our Top Recommended Big Brake Upgrade Kits For Your Nissan 200SX

The 200SX badge covers two different Nissan chassis in our range, the S13 from 1988 to 1993 and the S14 from 1993 to 2000, and HiSpec do not treat every kit the same way across them. At 325mm and 360mm, HiSpec list a separate kit for S13 and for S14: same caliper, same disc, same price, just tagged for your chassis. At 300mm, 310mm and 335mm, the listing carries no chassis tag at all, built to fit the 200SX across the run. That split is worth knowing before you order, because it is not consistent across the whole range.

Tarox take a different approach again: neither of their two front kits for the 200SX is split by chassis. The catalogue is thinner on the Tarox side than most cars in this series, an entry Sport kit and the flagship Super Sport, both arriving with pads and hoses fitted. The full 200SX range is on the site if you want to browse it raw.

  • HiSpec tag the 325mm and 360mm kits by chassis, S13 or S14, at the same spec and the same price either way
  • The 300mm, 310mm and 335mm HiSpec kits carry no chassis tag, built to fit the 200SX across the run
  • If your car is the later S14a or S15 shape, ring us before ordering, our listings only split as far as S13 and S14
  • Tarox list just two front kits for the 200SX and neither is split by chassis
  • Nothing on this page needs more than an 18 inch wheel, and the smallest kit clears 16 inch

Two brands, two ways of covering the same car

Both companies machine their own calipers from billet aluminium and build each kit for the specific car. The difference on the 200SX comes down to how each one handles the fact that this badge spans two different chassis.

HiSpec Motorsport

Machined in Dartford from 6082 T6 billet aluminium, calipers and pistons both. Thirteen listings cover the 200SX: some tagged S13, some tagged S14, and three sizes with no chassis tag at all. Made to order in up to 28 working days, caliper finished in your choice of black, red, blue, gold or silver. Pads and braided hoses are priced separately so you choose the compound.

Tarox

Built at the Tarox factory in northern Italy. Calipers CNC machined from European billet alloy and hand assembled, discs heat treated, CNC faced and balanced to 0.05mm. Just two front kits cover the 200SX, an entry Sport and the Super Sport flagship, neither split by chassis. Corsa pads pre-fitted and vehicle specific braided hoses included on both.

One external link worth bookmarking for Tarox: their wheel clearance template is the definitive check for spoke depth once you have the minimum diameter sorted.

The number that decides it: your wheel size

A bigger disc means a bigger minimum wheel, and on the 200SX the range runs from 16 inch at the smallest to 18 inch at the top. HiSpec publish the wheel size for every kit from their own catalogue. The Tarox figures were looked up per kit on tarox.co.uk against the KM code in our SKU, never derived from the disc size, because the same diameter can carry a different figure on a different car.

Diameter is the starting point, not the full answerTwo 17 inch wheels can be very different profiles behind the spokes, and clearance lives in that gap. If you are on aftermarket alloys, give Cameron the wheel make and model along with the size and he will check spoke clearance before anything is ordered. Five minutes on the phone before the kit is built saves a lot of effort afterwards.

HiSpec 300mm and 310mm Billet 4: the 16 inch starting point

Neither of these carries a chassis tag, so they are built to fit the 200SX whichever generation you have. The Billet 4 is HiSpec’s most popular caliper: four pistons machined from 6082 T6 billet aluminium with external boots on the seals to keep road grit out, on a two piece floating disc. Both clear a 16 inch wheel.

One thing worth saying plainly: the 310mm kit is priced below the smaller 300mm kit on our store today, £945.50 against £1,464.00, both inc VAT, for a bigger disc in the same caliper family. We have flagged it internally because it looks like a pricing error, not a deliberate discount. If it is corrected, the price on the product page is the one that stands, so buy from that and not from this guide.

  • 300mm at £1,464.00 inc VAT; 310mm at £945.50 inc VAT, which undercuts the smaller disc
  • Both clear 16 inch wheels
  • Two piece floating discs, no chassis tag on either listing
  • Pads and hoses priced separately; five caliper colours
  • Made to order in up to 28 working days in Dartford

HiSpec 325mm Billet 4: know your chassis first

  • ,

  • £1,225.00 Excl. VAT Select options

This is the point in the range where HiSpec start tagging by chassis. The 325mm Billet 4 is listed twice, once for the S13 and once for the S14, and both cost £1,470.00. The caliper and disc are the same kit either way, the difference is the bracket, so ordering the one that matches your car is what actually changes here compared with the 300mm and 310mm pair above.

If your 200SX is the later S14a or S15 shape, we have not found a listing tagged specifically for either of those in this range. Ring us on 0115 9893488 before ordering and we will confirm fitment before you order.

  • £1,470.00 inc VAT, identical price on the S13 and S14 listings
  • Clears 17 inch wheels
  • Two piece floating disc, same Billet 4 caliper as the 300mm and 310mm kits
  • Pads and hoses priced separately; five caliper colours
  • Made to order in up to 28 working days

Tarox 330mm Sport: the complete kit at 17 inches

The entry Tarox for the 200SX, and unlike every HiSpec kit above 300mm, it is not split by chassis at all. Six piston B32 caliper on a 330mm two piece disc balanced to 0.05mm, Corsa pads already fitted and braided hoses in the box. Clears a 17 inch wheel.

Tarox also list a 330mm rear kit for the 200SX at the same price, for anyone wanting to match the back axle to whichever front kit they choose. That is a separate conversation. Ring us before ordering a rear kit and we will spec the pair together so the bias stays right.

  • £2,280.00 inc VAT, complete with pads and braided hoses fitted
  • Clears 17 inch wheels
  • 330mm two piece disc, balanced to 0.05mm
  • Six piston B32 billet caliper, hand assembled in Italy
  • Not split by chassis, one listing covers S13 and S14

HiSpec 360mm Monster 4 and Monster 6: the 18 inch track pick

  • ,

    £1,552.50 Excl. VAT Select options
  • ,

    £1,508.04 Excl. VAT Select options

The Monster caliper uses a pad one third longer than the Billet 4 with a bigger footprint on the disc. Both the Monster 4 and Monster 6 sit on a 360mm two piece disc and both clear an 18 inch wheel. These two listings are tagged for the S14; the identical spec exists under its own S13 listing too, covered in the section below.

For a road car that sees track evenings, the Monster 4 is what Cameron fits: it brakes hard and the caliper holds up to repeated heat cycles. The Monster 6 is for a car making real power or spending real time on the brakes late into a corner. If you are not sure which suits how the car is driven, a five minute call before ordering usually settles it.

  • Monster 4 at £1,809.65 inc VAT; Monster 6 at £1,863.00 inc VAT
  • Both clear 18 inch wheels
  • 360mm two piece floating discs, S14-tagged listings shown here
  • Pads and hoses priced separately; five caliper colours
  • HiSpec also list a 360mm Mega Monster for the S14, their biggest kit for this car

Tarox 340mm Super Sport: the flagship, and a title worth checking

The biggest Tarox kit for the 200SX and the most complete package on this page. Sequential piston sizing gives even pad contact and a firmer pedal, on a 340mm two piece disc balanced to 0.05mm, Corsa pads pre-fitted and braided hoses included. Clears an 18 inch wheel and states full ABS and ESP compatibility.

The listing title says “10pot”, and it is not. Tarox’s own kit contents line names the caliper as the B34GT/B360, an 8-piston design, and their fitment notes describe the same 8-piston caliper again. We go with the spec, not the title, and it says eight. We have flagged the title to be corrected.

  • £2,610.00 inc VAT, complete with pads and braided hoses fitted
  • Clears 18 inch wheels
  • 340mm two piece disc, balanced to 0.05mm
  • 8-piston B34GT/B360 billet caliper, hand assembled in Italy, despite the "10pot" name on the listing
  • Not split by chassis, one listing covers S13 and S14

If your 200SX is an S13

Everything HiSpec build above 335mm on this page is shown here under the S14 name. The S13 gets the same Monster 4 and Monster 6 at 360mm under its own listing, priced the same as the S14 pair above. If a chassis check feels like extra hassle, the 335mm Monster 6 is one of the three sizes that carries no chassis tag at all, so it fits either car without one.

What is actually in each box

The headline prices sit further apart than the finished builds do once you spec them level. Add pads and braided hoses to the HiSpec side and the gap with the Tarox kits narrows. Compare finished builds, not the headline numbers.

Common questions

Do the HiSpec kits fit both the S13 and S14 200SX?

It depends on the size. At 325mm and 360mm, HiSpec tag a separate listing for S13 and for S14, built to the same spec at the same price, so pick the one that matches your car. At 300mm, 310mm and 335mm the listing has no chassis tag at all. Owners of the later S14a or S15 shape should call us on 0115 9893488 first, since neither of those gets its own tag anywhere in the range.

Is the 310mm Billet 4 really cheaper than the 300mm one?

It is, on our store today: £945.50 against £1,464.00, both inc VAT, for a bigger disc in the same caliper family. We have flagged it internally because it looks like a pricing error, not a deliberate discount. If it is corrected, the price on the product page is the one that stands, so buy from that and not from this table.

The Tarox 340mm listing says 10pot. Is that right?

No. Tarox's own kit contents line for that listing names the caliper as the B34GT/B360, which is an 8-piston design, and the fitment notes on the same page repeat the 8-piston figure. The title has not been corrected. We go with the manufacturer's own spec, not the title, and we have flagged it to be fixed.

What is the difference between the Tarox Sport and Super Sport?

Piston count and disc size. The Sport runs a six piston B32 caliper on a 330mm disc; the Super Sport steps up to the 8-piston B34GT/B360 caliper on a 340mm disc with sequential piston sizing, which gives more even pad contact and a firmer pedal under hard use. Both arrive with Corsa pads fitted and braided hoses included.

Will these kits work with ABS and ESP on the 200SX?

Tarox state full ABS and ESP compatibility on both their 200SX kits. HiSpec's kits fit to the front hub and do not touch the ABS sensor or reluctor ring, so compatibility on a standard car should be fine. If your car has had any non-standard ABS modifications, tell us when you order and we will check with HiSpec before the kit goes to build.

What we would actually fit

Start with the chassis question, because it decides which listing you actually need at 325mm and 360mm. Once that is sorted, on a road car keeping its 16 inch wheels, the 310mm Billet 4 is the one to buy while it is priced where it is, a bigger disc for less money than the smaller kit next to it. On 17s, the 325mm Billet 4 tagged for your chassis is Garreth’s answer for most 200SX owners who ask.

For a car doing proper track use on 18s, the Monster 4 is what Cameron fits as the default, held back to the Monster 6 for anything making real power. If you want the whole job in one delivery with pads and hoses already fitted, the Tarox 330mm Sport is the complete kit at 17 inch and the Super Sport is the same logic at the top of the range, whatever the title on that listing currently says.

Ring us on 0115 9893488 with your chassis code, the current wheel size and what the car does at weekends. Confirming S13 against S14 is a short question, and checking spoke clearance on a specific wheel is Cameron’s side of the business. Most calls like this are done inside five minutes.
