Our Top Recommended Big Brake Upgrade Kits For Your Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution

The Evo carried the same 4-pot caliper design across nine generations, which is why people focus on the disc size when they talk about brake upgrades. On a standard car those calipers do the job. On a modified one running more power and harder compound tyres, disc diameter is the conversation.

This page covers three brands for the Evo VI to IX: HiSpec and Tarox, which build dedicated kits for the 4G63 cars, and Brembo, which covers both generations. The Evo X arrived on a completely different front hub. In the 2026 catalogues, HiSpec and Tarox cover only the CT9A cars; for the Evo X the choices start with Brembo’s own GT range. The full Lancer Evo range is on the site if you want to browse raw.

  • Evo VI to IX (4G63, 1999 to 2007): HiSpec, Tarox and Brembo all list dedicated front kits for the CT9A chassis
  • Evo X (4B11, 2008 to 2015): Brembo GT range only, with separate part numbers for the CZ4A front hub
  • HiSpec price pads and hoses separately so you pick the compound; Tarox and Brembo both ship complete with pads and lines in the box
  • Brembo GT kits are made to order at the factory in Italy, six to eight weeks; caliper colour is selected at the time of order

Three brands, two eras in the catalogue

HiSpec and Tarox cover the 4G63 generation. Brembo covers both. The split matters because Evo X owners are working with different options on day one.

UK

HiSpec Motorsport

Machined in Dartford from 6082 T6 billet aluminium. Made to order in up to 28 working days, in five caliper colours. These are front axle conversions. Pads and braided hoses are priced separately so you choose the compound. HiSpec list the kits under "Evo 5" in their current catalogue; Cameron confirms fitment for Evo VI to IX before anything goes to build.

IT

Tarox

Built in northern Italy from billet alloy, hand assembled, discs heat treated and hand balanced to 0.05mm. Separate listings for Evo VI, VII, VIII and IX, each with the correct bracket geometry. Kits arrive with vehicle-specific braided hoses and Corsa pads already fitted in the calipers. Nothing left to add on delivery.

IT

Brembo GT

Made to order at the Brembo factory in Italy. GT kits for both the CT9A (Evo VI to IX) and CZ4A (Evo X) are in the 2026 catalogue, with generation-specific brackets. Three caliper tiers: GT-M, GT-S and GT-R. Six to eight weeks from order. Priced at five percent under Brembo UK retail.

Evo V has its own guideThe Evo V (CP9A, 1998 to 1999) uses a different hub specification. HiSpec and Tarox both list kits for the CP9A but those kits are covered on a separate page. If you have the Evo V, ring us on 0115 9893488 and Cameron will confirm the right spec.

Wheel clearance

HiSpec confirm minimum wheel sizes per kit. Tarox confirmed 18 inch for the 340mm Super Sport via the wheel size database Cameron maintains. Brembo publish a caliper clearance drawing on each product page with three measurements: A (caliper height above disc face), B (caliper depth to the wheel mounting surface) and C (caliper width). Those three dimensions determine whether a specific wheel fits, and Cameron works through them before any Brembo kit is ordered.

Both Evo generations ran 17 inch factory alloysThe HiSpec 335mm Monster 4 is the only kit on this page that clears a standard factory 17 inch wheel. If the car is still on factory alloys and you want to fit a big brake kit without changing wheels, this is the one to consider first.

HiSpec 335mm Monster 4: the only kit for standard wheels

The Monster caliper uses larger pistons than the standard Billet 4, with a bigger pad face, high temperature seals and stainless wear plates. At 335mm it is the largest disc that tucks behind a 17 inch factory wheel, which is the standard size on both the CT9A and the Evo X.

HiSpec list this kit under “Mitsubishi Evo 5” in their 2026 catalogue. Before ordering for an Evo VI, VII, VIII or IX, ring us and Cameron confirms the bracket with HiSpec before anything goes to build. The front hub geometry across the 4G63 range is broadly similar but we do not ship a kit we have not confirmed for the specific generation.

One pricing note worth knowing before you go further down the page: the HiSpec 360mm Monster 4 (the next size up in disc diameter) lists at £1,635 inc VAT, which is £15 cheaper than this 335mm kit. That is an anomaly in the pricing, and a larger disc at a lower price reads oddly. The 360mm Monster 4 needs an 18 inch wheel and Cameron runs the clearance check before it is built. The value at this price point is the 335mm Monster 4 on standard alloys.

  • £1,650.00 inc VAT
  • 335 x 28mm two piece floating disc; clears 17 inch factory wheels
  • Listed as Evo 5 in the HiSpec catalogue; ring us for Evo VI to IX confirmation before ordering
  • High temperature seals, stainless wear plates, five caliper colours
  • Pads and braided hoses priced separately; up to 28 working days

HiSpec 360mm Monster 6: the six-piston kit for circuit work

The Monster 6 adds a second pair of pistons over the Monster 4, giving more clamping force and a firmer pedal on a car pushed hard. Six pistons mean a larger pad face and more heat distribution across it, which makes a difference on a car that sees regular braking zones on a circuit.

The 360mm disc needs an 18 inch wheel. If the car is on factory alloys, add a wheel budget alongside this kit. The listing runs as Evo 5 in the HiSpec catalogue; the same call applies as the 335mm Monster: ring Cameron, give him the exact generation and wheel make, and he confirms with HiSpec before the order goes in.

The 360mm Monster 4 sits at £1,635 inc VAT, which is below the 335mm Monster 4. The Monster 6 at £1,863 prices correctly above both of them. That is the kit on this pick; the anomaly is on the Monster 4 line, not here.

  • £1,863.00 inc VAT
  • 360 x 28mm two piece floating disc; 18 inch minimum
  • Six piston Monster caliper, high temperature seals, stainless wear plates
  • Listed as Evo 5 in the HiSpec catalogue; ring us to confirm your exact generation before ordering
  • Pads and hoses priced separately; up to 28 working days, five caliper colours

Tarox 340mm Super Sport: the complete kit for Evo VI to IX

Tarox list the 340mm separately for each of the four generations: Evo VI at £2,670, and Evo VII, VIII and IX all at £2,610. The £60 difference on the Evo VI is a bracket geometry difference; it is worth picking the right part number at the point of order because the brackets are generation-specific and the wrong one will not mount.

Pads and hoses are in the box. The Corsa pads are already fitted in the calipers on delivery. There is nothing to add to the order and nothing to source before the car goes on a ramp.

On the caliper name: the product listing says “10 pot”. The caliper that arrives is the B34GT, which runs eight pistons sized sequentially so pad wear stays even across the face. The older Tarox B34 design did run ten pistons; the B34GT is the current production caliper and the titles have not been updated in the catalogue. We mention it because “ten piston” appears on the listing and will catch your eye when you order.

HiSpec and Tarox cover only the CT9A (4G63) cars in their current catalogues. For the Evo X, the picks start with the Brembo sections below.

  • Evo VI: £2,670.00 inc VAT; Evo VII, VIII and IX: £2,610.00 inc VAT
  • 340 x 26mm two piece floating disc; 18 inch minimum wheel
  • B34GT caliper, eight sequential pistons, hand assembled in northern Italy
  • Corsa pads and braided hoses included and pre-fitted
  • F2000, Sport Japan or C83 disc profiles; five caliper colour options

Brembo GT-M 350mm: monobloc caliper for both generations

The GT-M is machined from a single piece of aluminium. That single-casting construction holds its shape better under heat than a two-piece caliper, which is the reason Brembo specify it at the entry level of the GT range rather than a fabricated design. There are separate kits for the CT9A (Evo VI to IX, part 1N38018A) and the CZ4A (Evo X, part 1N38019A). Both kits are the same price. Pick the right generation from the product page when you order.

Six pistons, 350mm two piece disc. Caliper colour comes in Black, Red, Silver or Yellow, set by the last digit of the part number on the order. Caliper colour is included in the price.

Between the GT-M and the GT-R sits the GT-S, machined from billet aluminium and nickel finished, with racing-style piston radiators and recessed dust seals. GT-S is £4,296 against GT-M at £4,191. The GT-S also comes in 355mm for Evo VI to IX at £4,401. Those kits are in the GT-S section further down this page.

Caliper clearance for every Brembo GT kit is covered by the drawing on each product page. The drawing gives A, B and C dimensions. Cameron uses those dimensions to check a specific wheel before any Brembo order goes in. Ring him on 0115 9893488 before ordering.

  • Evo VI-IX and Evo X: £4,191.18 inc VAT
  • 350 x 34mm two piece floating disc
  • GT-M monobloc 6 piston caliper, Black/Red/Silver/Yellow finish
  • Made to order in Italy, six to eight weeks
  • Pads, brackets, braided lines and hardware included; caliper clearance drawing on the product page

Brembo GT-R: billet flagship for both generations

The GT-R is billet machined and hard anodised, with the Brembo logo engraved and filled red as on their competition calipers. For the Evo VI to IX it comes in 350mm at £8,330 inc VAT. For the Evo X the 380mm GT-R is the largest kit in the range at £8,906, adding 30mm over the standard Evo X disc diameter.

On the 380mm GT-R for the Evo X: disc face comes cross-drilled or Type 3 slotted at the same price. On the 350mm for the Evo VI to IX, both disc profiles are also available at the same price.

One pricing note worth reading before choosing between GT-R and GT-S: the GT-R 350mm and the GT-R 355mm for the Evo VI to IX are both £8,330 inc VAT. Two different disc sizes at exactly the same price. The 355mm moves to a 32mm thick disc from the 34mm on the 350mm and the caliper clearance requirement changes between the two. Look at the clearance drawings for both sizes before choosing. Cameron will run the check against your wheel if you ring him on 0115 9893488.

Garreth’s view on the GT-R at this price: this is the caliper specification Brembo use on their competition parts. At this level the upgrade is about caliper rigidity and how it manages heat at sustained high speeds, not just the disc size.

  • Evo VI-IX GT-R 350mm: £8,329.97 inc VAT; Evo X GT-R 380mm: £8,906.26 inc VAT
  • 350 x 34mm (Evo VI-IX) or 380 x 32mm (Evo X), both two piece floating
  • Billet aluminium, hard anodised GT-R caliper, Brembo logo engraved in red
  • Made to order in Italy, six to eight weeks
  • 380mm: cross-drilled or Type 3 slotted, same price; kit includes pads, brackets and lines

Brembo GT-S: between GT-M and GT-R

The GT-S fills the price gap between GT-M at £4,191 and GT-R at £8,330. Billet aluminium caliper, nickel finished, with racing-style piston radiators and recessed dust seals. For the Evo VI to IX there is a 350mm at £4,296 and a 355mm at £4,401. For the Evo X there is a 350mm at £4,296 and a 380mm at £4,768; that 380mm GT-S carries the same disc size as the GT-R flagship but at just over half the price. On the 355mm and 380mm GT-S, disc face is cross-drilled or Type 3 slotted at the same price. Six to eight weeks, made to order.

HiSpec price narrows when specced to the same levelThe HiSpec headline price does not include pads or braided hoses. Once you add a pad set and hoses, the gap between HiSpec and Tarox at a similar spec closes. The Tarox price includes both. For a track car where you want to specify your own pad compound, HiSpec gives you that choice; for a road car where you want everything in one order, Tarox arrives complete.
These are front axle kitsEvery kit on this page is a front conversion. The Evo chassis is well-balanced and most road cars and track-day cars do not need a matched rear upgrade alongside a front big brake kit. If you are speccing a full competition car and want both axles quoted together, ring us on 0115 9893488 and we will work through it with Cameron.

HiSpec 360mm Monster 4 prices below the 335mm Monster 4The 360mm Monster 4 lists at £1,635 inc VAT against £1,650 for the 335mm Monster 4. A larger disc at a lower price is a pricing anomaly; we have flagged it with HiSpec. The 360mm Monster 4 needs an 18 inch wheel, which the 335mm does not. Prices correct 28 September 2026.
Brembo "See PDF" means the clearance drawing on the product pageEvery Brembo GT product page links to a caliper clearance drawing with A, B and C dimensions. Those three numbers are what Cameron uses to check a wheel will clear the caliper before the order goes in. There is no single minimum wheel size for Brembo across the range; the caliper body varies by tier and the wheel check is per kit.

Common questions

Will any of these kits fit behind the Evo's standard 17 inch factory wheels?

Only the HiSpec 335mm Monster 4. The 360mm Monster and Tarox 340mm both need an 18 inch wheel. Brembo GT kits require the clearance check from the drawing on the product page, but the GT-M and GT-S calipers are typically too large for a standard 17 inch alloy. If you want to upgrade the brakes without changing wheels, the HiSpec 335mm Monster 4 is the right starting point.

Are Evo VI-IX kits and Evo X kits the same thing?

No. The Evo X (CZ4A) arrived with a different front hub geometry and a wider front track than the CT9A cars before it. The brackets are generation-specific and a CT9A kit will not mount on a CZ4A hub. Brembo list separate part numbers for the two generations. If you order the wrong one, it will not fit. Cameron confirms the generation before any order goes in; ring 0115 9893488.

Why does the Tarox listing say "10 pot"?

The older Tarox B34 caliper did run ten pistons. The current caliper is the B34GT, which uses eight pistons sized sequentially for even pad wear across the face. Tarox changed the design but did not update all the titles in the catalogue. The kit that arrives with your order is the B34GT, eight sequential pistons. We mention it because the listing title will catch your eye.

How long does a Brembo GT kit take to arrive?

Six to eight weeks from order. These are made to order at the Brembo factory in Italy and that lead time is consistent. If you are working to a specific date, ring us on 0115 9893488 before placing the order and we will give you the current position at the factory.

Do I need to upgrade the rear brakes to match a front big brake kit?

Typically no. The Evo's brake bias is already weighted towards the front and the standard rear setup is competent on most road cars and track-day cars. If you are speccing a full competition build and want front and rear worked through together, ring us and we will go through both axles with Cameron. For a road car with circuit days, a front-only upgrade is the normal approach.

What we would actually fit

For an Evo VI, VII or VIII on standard 17 inch factory wheels, the HiSpec 335mm Monster 4 is the clean first step. It keeps the original alloys and puts a proper front brake conversion behind them. For a car already running 18 inch wheels, the Tarox 340mm Super Sport is the tidy package: the right bracket for your exact generation, Corsa pads and hoses in the box, nothing left to source.

On the Evo IX RS or the Evo X, Garreth’s view is that the Brembo GT-M 350mm is where the money makes sense. The monobloc caliper is a step up in construction spec over the billet two-piece kits. The GT-S sits £104.77 above the GT-M and delivers billet construction with nickel finish; at that price gap Garreth would take it. The GT-R is for the build with no ceiling.

If you are deciding between sizes, ring us on 0115 9893488 with your chassis code, wheel brand and diameter, and what the car does. Cameron’s part of the business is working out exactly what fits before anything is ordered, and it is usually a short call.
