Our Top Recommended Big Brake Upgrade Kits For Your Maserati Quattroporte

The question we get every time someone rings about the Quattroporte is which generation, because the answer changes everything that follows. Series IV, from 1994 to 2003, has one kit: Tarox’s 330mm Sport conversion, and that is the whole list. Series V, from 2005 to 2012, opens up properly.

For the Series V you have three Tarox disc sizes from 350 to 360mm and then Brembo’s full GT range at 380mm. If the car sees track days regularly and the budget is there, Brembo GT is what Cameron would specify. If it is a fast road car that joins a track day once or twice a year, the Tarox Super Sport at £2,500 is the more practical starting point, and it arrives rather sooner than six to eight weeks. The full Quattroporte range is on the site if you want to browse it directly.

  • Only Tarox covers the Series IV (1994-2003); all Brembo kits and the larger Tarox options are Series V only
  • All kits on this page are front axle conversions
  • Tarox kits include Corsa pads and braided hoses already fitted; Brembo includes pads, braided lines and fitting hardware
  • The Tarox 350mm listing says 10 pot: what arrives is the 8-piston B34GT caliper (covered in that section below)
  • Brembo GT is made to order at six to eight weeks; lead time can be shorter when a production batch is in progress
  • Brembo lists the Series V as two year groups: 2005-2007, and 2008-2012 (S and GT S)

The Maserati Quattroporte. Which generation you have is the first question, because Series IV and Series V are on completely different pages.

Two companies, two approaches to a big brake caliper

Both machine from billet aluminium and both build kits specific to the car. The gap is in how they go about it, and in lead time.

IT

Tarox

CNC machined at their factory in northern Italy. Every caliper is hand assembled and individually tested; every disc is heat treated and balanced to 0.05mm. Kits arrive complete with Corsa pads pre-installed and vehicle-specific braided hoses. ABS and ESP compatibility is stated on every kit. Typically available from stock or on a short lead time.

GT

Brembo GT

Three grades in the GT system. GT-M calipers are monobloc, machined from a single piece of aluminium. GT-S adds nickel plating and the piston radiator design Brembo uses in its Formula 1 and NASCAR supply chain. GT-R goes to a hard-anodised finish and a motorsport piston layout. All are made to order at six to eight weeks and come complete with pads, braided lines and hardware.

Which kits fit your car: the generation split

Series IV and Series V owners often ring about the same car in the same breath, but the specifications are different enough that mixing them up causes problems. The table maps the kits to the year bands and notes minimum wheel sizes where we have a confirmed figure.

Tarox wheel sizes for this carTarox do not publish a minimum wheel size for the 330mm or 350mm Quattroporte kits. Both descriptions note they often fit behind the original wheels, which helps on a car that is unlikely to move to aftermarket wheels. If you are on aftermarket alloys, give Cameron the make, size and offset and he will check the fit before anything goes to build.

Tarox 330mm Sport: the kit for the Series IV

If the car is a Series IV, this is the answer. Tarox build one kit for the Quattroporte IV, their 330mm Sport conversion, and it is the only big brake kit on this page that fits the 1994-2003 body. The B32 is Tarox’s 6-piston caliper: CNC machined from billet alloy, hand assembled in Italy, discs heat treated and balanced to 0.05mm.

Tarox note that this kit often sits behind the original wheels, which matters on a car that ran factory 18-inch wheels and will probably stay on them. If you are on aftermarket wheels, Cameron checks the specific wheel before the kit is built. At £2,280 everything is in the box: calipers, two-piece floating discs, mounting brackets, vehicle-specific braided hoses and Corsa pads already fitted.

  • £2,280 inc VAT, complete kit
  • 330x30mm two-piece floating disc, balanced to 0.05mm
  • B32 6-piston billet alloy caliper, hand assembled in Italy
  • Corsa pads pre-installed, vehicle-specific braided hoses included
  • Often fits behind original wheels per Tarox
  • Compatible with ABS and ESP

Tarox 350mm Super Sport: the Series V starting point

For the Series V this is where most conversations start. The disc steps up to 350mm and the caliper is the B34GT, which is Tarox’s current Super Sport design for heavier saloons: 8 pistons, sequentially sized from inner to outer, so the pad sweeps evenly across the face and the pedal stays consistent as the brakes heat up.

One thing to be clear about: the listing carries the name “10 pot”. That name comes from an older caliper in the same product family. The kit Tarox now ships for the Quattroporte V is the B34GT with 8 pistons. The product description confirms it, and it is what arrives. If you are comparing piston counts across brands, use 8; it does not change what the kit does on the car.

The description also notes it often fits behind the original wheels. Garreth’s view on the QP V is straightforward: this kit at £2,500 complete is the right answer for most owners who do not already have a reason to go bigger.

  • £2,500 inc VAT, complete kit
  • 350x32mm two-piece floating disc, balanced to 0.05mm
  • B34GT 8-piston caliper (listing says 10 pot; caliper in the box is 8-piston B34GT)
  • Sequential piston sizing for even pad wear and consistent pedal feel
  • Corsa pads pre-installed, vehicle-specific braided hoses included
  • Often fits behind original wheels per Tarox

Tarox 360mm Grande Sport: the 19-inch option

The Grande Sport moves to a 12-piston caliper, the B400, and a 360x32mm disc. Tarox state a minimum 19-inch wheel for this kit, and that is the figure to check before ordering. It is the only Tarox kit on this page with a confirmed minimum wheel size.

On a Sport GTS or GT S already running 20-inch wheels, this kit fits the car’s character. If the car is on 18-inch wheels, speak to Cameron before ordering, because clearance at 360mm depends on the specific wheel profile and not just the diameter.

Everything arrives in the box as with the other Tarox kits: 12-piston calipers, two-piece discs balanced to 0.05mm, mounting brackets, vehicle-specific braided hoses and Corsa pads pre-installed. Five caliper colours: black, red, blue, green or gold.

  • £3,610 inc VAT, complete kit
  • 360x32mm two-piece floating disc, balanced to 0.05mm
  • B400 12-piston billet alloy caliper, hand assembled in Italy
  • Minimum 19in wheel, confirmed by Tarox
  • Corsa pads pre-installed, vehicle-specific braided hoses included
  • Compatible with ABS and ESP

Brembo GT-M 380mm: the monobloc choice

Brembo lists the Series V as two separate year bands, 2005-2007 and 2008-2012, with different brackets for each hub. The caliper and disc specification are the same for both: 380x34mm two-piece disc, GT-M monobloc 6-piston caliper. Both are priced at £4,662.68 inc VAT. Pick the year group that matches the car.

The GT-M caliper is machined from a single piece of aluminium, which keeps the housing stiffer under sustained heat and braking load than a bolted two-part design. The disc face is available cross-drilled or Type 3 slotted; Type 3 is Brembo’s motorsport groove pattern, and it gives a strong initial bite and keeps the pad face clear. Caliper colours: black, red, silver or yellow.

Before ordering any Brembo kit, the wheel clearance drawing needs to be checked against your specific wheels. Send Cameron the wheel make, size and offset and we will read the drawing against it. The 380mm disc with its caliper has specific offset requirements that vary by grade.

  • £4,662.68 inc VAT per year group, complete kit
  • 380x34mm two-piece disc, cross-drilled or Type 3 slotted
  • GT-M monobloc 6-piston caliper, machined from a single piece of aluminium
  • Pads, braided lines, mounting brackets and fitting hardware included
  • Available for 2005-2007 or 2008-2012: choose the correct year group
  • Made to order, 6 to 8 weeks
  • Wheel clearance drawing check required before ordering

Brembo GT-S 380mm: nickel-plated step up

Same 380mm disc dimensions as the GT-M, same year split, same box contents: pads, braided lines, brackets and hardware. What changes is the caliper. The GT-S is machined from billet aluminium and nickel plated, carrying the piston radiator and recessed seal design from Brembo’s Formula 1 and NASCAR supply work. In road use the difference shows in sustained hard braking, where the radiators pull heat away from the fluid more effectively.

The step from GT-M to GT-S is about £105 inc VAT. If the car reaches high braking temperatures regularly, whether on track or on mountain roads, the GT-S is worth the step. For a fast road car that joins one or two track days a year, the GT-M handles it well. Both are made to order at six to eight weeks, and both need the wheel clearance check before ordering.

  • £4,767.47 inc VAT per year group, complete kit
  • 380x34mm two-piece disc, cross-drilled or Type 3 slotted
  • GT-S billet aluminium nickel-plated 6-piston caliper
  • Racing piston radiators and recessed dust seals
  • Same box contents, year split and colour options as GT-M
  • Made to order, 6 to 8 weeks

Brembo GT-R 380mm: the motorsport level

At £8,906 per front axle the GT-R is a different conversation. The caliper is hard anodised with a motorsport piston layout. Both year groups are available at the same price. If you are building a Quattroporte for circuit use at this level, speak to us before ordering: the wheel clearance specification for the GT-R caliper differs from the GT-M version and it needs checking against your exact wheels.

What is actually in each box

The headline prices sit further apart than the finished builds. Tarox and Brembo both include pads and hoses, so there is nothing left to add. The comparison below covers what arrives with each kit.

Common questions

How do I know which Series my Quattroporte is?

Series IV ran from 1994 to 2003 with the Ferrari-developed V8, a 4-door body on a different platform to the later car. Series V arrived in 2005, heavier and with a new Maserati V8, and ran through to 2012 in S, GT S and Sport GTS variants. If you have the registration, Cameron can confirm the chassis generation from it.

The Tarox 350mm listing says 10 pot. Does it have 10 pistons?

No. The name is carried over from an older caliper design in the same product family. The kit Tarox now ships for the Quattroporte V is the B34GT, with 8 sequentially sized pistons. The product description states this, and it is what arrives in the box. If you are comparing piston counts across manufacturers, use 8. It does not change what the kit does on the car.

How long does the Brembo GT system take to arrive?

Brembo make these to order. Six to eight weeks is the standard lead time. The factory runs production batches, so the actual wait can be shorter when a batch is in progress; Cameron can check the current position when you enquire.

Can I use these on track as well as the road?

Yes. Tarox state ABS and ESP compatibility on every kit and the Super Sport design is built for fast road and track use. Brembo GT is developed from motorsport supply and handles sustained track braking well; the GT-S piston radiators help specifically in prolonged hard use. Tell us the use case when you order so the pad specification suits the car's most demanding conditions.

Do these include rear brakes?

No. Everything on this page converts the front axle. A front conversion transforms the stopping on most road cars. If you want to plan a rear conversion at the same time we can spec both together to keep the bias right.

What we would actually fit

On a Series IV, the Tarox 330mm Sport is the one choice. On a Series V, where it lands depends on what the car does and what wheels it runs.

Most of the QP Vs we see are fast road cars used on track occasionally. For those, Garreth’s first suggestion is the Tarox Super Sport at £2,500: complete kit, no wait, and a proper step over the original brakes. If the car is already on 19-inch or 20-inch wheels and track days are regular, the 360mm Grande Sport is the sensible move, and the 12-piston caliper suits the GT S and Sport GTS well.

For the Brembo system, start with the GT-M unless the car genuinely runs high braking temperatures in sustained sessions, in which case the GT-S is the right step. The GT-R is for a different kind of build.

If you are unsure which year group the car is, whether the 380mm disc clears your wheels, or which Tarox kit is the right starting point, ring Cameron on 0115 9893488. He can work through the clearance drawing against your wheel spec and confirm the year group from the registration, and it saves ordering the wrong kit.
