Our Top Recommended Big Brake Upgrade Kits For Your Ford Scorpio

The Ford Scorpio shares its front hub geometry with the Sierra and the Granada Mk3, which is why every HiSpec kit on this page is listed for all three. That shared hub opens up the full HiSpec Billet 4 range from 283mm up to 360mm, fitting any Scorpio regardless of engine. The one kit that is not shared is the Tarox 330mm conversion, built specifically for the Scorpio 2.9 V6 with brackets and hose routing matched to that car.

This page covers the kits we would actually recommend, ordered by disc size and wheel requirement. All of them are front axle conversions that bolt to the standard hubs. The full Scorpio brake kit range is on the site if you want to browse the complete list.

  • Every HiSpec kit on this page fits the Ford Sierra, Granada Mk3 and Scorpio, which share the same front hub geometry
  • The Tarox 330mm kit is the only one listed specifically for the Scorpio 2.9 V6
  • HiSpec publish the wheel size each kit clears, from 15 inch at 283mm to 18 inch at 360mm
  • Tarox kits arrive complete with pads already fitted and braided hoses in the box; HiSpec price theirs without, so you choose the compound
  • All conversions are front axle only, covering the hardware that does most of the stopping

Two brands, two ways of building a brake kit

Both of these companies machine their own calipers from billet aluminium and both build every kit for the specific application. The difference is in how the kit arrives and what is left to source.

UK

HiSpec Motorsport

Machined in Dartford from 6082 T6 billet aluminium, calipers and pistons both. Every kit is made to order in up to 28 working days, with the calipers finished in your choice of black, red, blue, gold or silver. Pads and braided hoses are priced separately so you choose the compound for how the car is used.

Tarox

Made at the Tarox factory in northern Italy. Calipers are CNC machined from European billet alloy and hand assembled, discs are heat treated and hand balanced. The Scorpio V6 kit arrives complete, with braided hoses and pads already fitted, and Tarox state full compatibility with ABS and ESP.

The number that decides it: your wheel size

A bigger disc needs a bigger wheel to swing inside. HiSpec state the minimum wheel size for every kit on this page and those figures are in the table below. The Tarox 330mm kit is listed for the Scorpio 2.9 V6 and needs 17 inches of clearance; that figure comes from the tarox.co.uk product listing, not from HiSpec’s published wheel size table.

Tell us the wheel, not just the sizeTwo 16 inch wheels can differ significantly behind the spokes, and clearance lives in that gap. If you are on aftermarket wheels, give Cameron the make and model of the wheel alongside the size and he will confirm the clearance before anything is built. That conversation takes five minutes and costs nothing.

HiSpec 283mm Billet 4: keep your 15 inch wheels

The starting point for a Scorpio on standard or 15 inch aftermarket wheels. HiSpec’s Billet 4 is a four piston caliper machined from 6082 T6 billet aluminium, paired here with a 283mm solid disc. The step from the Scorpio’s single piston sliding calipers is felt immediately in initial bite and pedal feel, with the four piston design keeping even pressure across the pad face rather than loading one edge. The 283mm diameter is small enough to clear a 15 inch wheel, so the upgrade goes on without touching anything else.

  • £785.44 inc VAT
  • Clears 15 inch wheels
  • 283 x 24mm solid discs
  • Four piston Billet 4 caliper, 6082 T6 billet aluminium
  • Brackets and fitting hardware included, pads and hoses priced separately
  • Five caliper colours, made to order in Dartford in up to 28 working days

HiSpec 300mm Billet 4: solid disc or floating disc

At 300mm, HiSpec offer two listings for the same caliper at different disc constructions. The solid disc version at £817.24 is a single cast unit, 24mm thick, which works well on a road car. The floating disc version at £1,233.29 is 28mm thick and two piece: the swept face decouples from the mounting bell via small pins that allow the disc to expand under heat without loading the hub. The floating design reduces the risk of warping under sustained hard braking, which matters more on a heavier car than on a light one. Both kits clear a 16 inch wheel.

  • Solid disc: £817.24 inc VAT
  • Floating disc: £1,233.29 inc VAT
  • Both clear 16 inch wheels
  • Solid version: 300 x 24mm single cast disc
  • Floating version: 300 x 28mm two piece, pins allow thermal expansion
  • Four piston Billet 4 caliper on both, pads and hoses priced separately

HiSpec 315mm Billet 4: the largest 16 inch disc

Still a 16 inch wheel, but 15mm more disc than the 300mm floating kit. The longer swept radius puts more braking torque through the same caliper, which translates to more stopping power before the pad pressure needs to increase. The disc is 28mm thick and two piece floating, matching the construction of the 300mm floating kit at a modest price step. The Billet 4 caliper carries across the range, so colour choice and lead time stay the same. Garreth’s view is that the 315 is worth the extra over the 300mm floating kit if 17 inch wheels are not in the plan, since it takes the 16 inch option to its sensible limit.

  • £1,283.02 inc VAT
  • Clears 16 inch wheels
  • 315 x 28mm two piece floating discs
  • Four piston Billet 4 caliper, 6082 T6 billet aluminium
  • Pads and hoses priced separately
  • Up to 28 working days, five caliper colours

HiSpec 335mm Billet 4: 17 inch track build

Once the Scorpio is on 17s and seeing regular track use, this is the HiSpec kit we recommend. The 335mm disc needs 17 inches of clearance and is 28mm thick and two piece floating throughout. The caliper is still the Billet 4, which keeps the fitment and part supply straightforward. At this disc size the swept area is doing most of the work, so if the car is genuinely fast or repeatedly braked hard, budget for a track pad compound alongside the kit and plan to bed it in properly before any session.

  • £1,357.50 inc VAT
  • Requires 17 inch wheels
  • 335 x 28mm two piece floating discs
  • Four piston Billet 4 caliper, 6082 T6 billet aluminium
  • Pads and hoses priced separately
  • Made to order in Dartford, up to 28 working days

Tarox 330mm: Scorpio 2.9 V6 only

This is the only kit on this page built specifically for the Scorpio, as opposed to the shared Sierra/Granada/Scorpio hub listings. Tarox machine it for the 2.9 V6 with brackets, offsets and hose routing matched to that car. At 330mm the disc sits between the HiSpec 315mm and 335mm kits in diameter, and what separates it from both is completeness: pads are already fitted in the calipers and the braided hoses are in the box, so nothing else needs to be sourced. The listing calls it the 10 pot Scorpio conversion; if the caliper piston count matters to your build, verify the current specification with us before ordering as Tarox occasionally update caliper nomenclature between production runs.

  • £2,425.30 inc VAT, complete
  • Requires 17 inch wheels
  • 330mm disc, Scorpio 2.9 V6 specific
  • Pads already fitted, braided hoses in the box
  • Tarox state full ABS and ESP compatibility
  • This listing is for the Scorpio 2.9 V6 only, not shared with Sierra or Granada

If the car is on 18s

The largest HiSpec kit for this hub family runs a 360mm disc behind a 28mm two piece floating caliper. It needs 18 inches of wheel clearance and is the end of the HiSpec Scorpio range. At this size the build tends to be show-specific or power-specific, and we would want to talk through the full spec before the kit is ordered.

What is actually in each box

The headline prices look further apart than the finished builds are. HiSpec price their kits without pads or braided hoses so you choose the compound; the Tarox 330mm kit includes both, with the pads already fitted. Add pads and hoses to an HiSpec order and the gap to the Tarox narrows. Compare the finished build, not the headline number.

Common questions

Do these kits fit all Scorpio versions, or just the V6?

The HiSpec kits on this page fit the whole Scorpio range, along with the Sierra and Granada Mk3, because all three cars share the same front hub geometry. The Tarox 330mm kit is the exception: it is listed for the Scorpio 2.9 V6 only, with brackets and hose routing specific to that car. If you have a different engine and are interested in the Tarox kit, get in touch and we will check the correct fitment before anything is ordered.

The HiSpec listing says Sierra, Granada and Scorpio. Is it the same part?

Yes. The three cars share the same front hub geometry and the kit is identical across all three. If you are ordering for a Scorpio, pick the listing, and the brackets, hose lengths and offsets will be correct for the car.

What is the difference between the solid and floating 300mm kits?

Same caliper, same disc diameter, different disc construction. The solid disc (24mm, £817.24) is a single cast unit that works well on a road car. The floating disc (28mm, £1,233.29) is a two piece design: the swept face is joined to the mounting bell via small floating pins that allow the disc to expand under heat without transmitting that load into the hub. The floating design is more resistant to warping under sustained braking and is the better choice for heavier use or a heavier car.

Why are pads and hoses extra on the HiSpec kits?

HiSpec price the kit without pads so you choose the compound to match how the car is used. A road pad for a daily, something with a higher heat range for track evenings. Braided hoses can be added to the same order. We will quote the finished build cost so you can compare like for like against the Tarox kit.

How long will delivery take?

HiSpec kits are made to order in Dartford. Allow up to 28 working days. The Tarox kit is built for the specific car in Italy and lead times vary through the year, so ask when you order and we will give you the current picture.

Will ABS still work after fitment?

Tarox state full compatibility with ABS and ESP on the Scorpio V6 kit. For HiSpec builds, tell us the exact car and spec when you enquire and we will confirm the details with HiSpec before the kit is built.

What we would actually fit

On a Scorpio keeping its 15 inch wheels, the 283mm Billet 4, nothing else to add. On a 16 inch car that covers both road and the odd track evening, the 300mm floating disc kit is where the money goes furthest: it is the same caliper as the solid disc version with a disc construction that holds up better under the kind of repeated hard braking a heavier car like the Scorpio asks for. The 315mm is worth the step up if 17s are not planned, since it takes the 16 inch range to its natural limit. For cars that have moved onto 17s and see regular track use, the 335mm Billet 4 is the call.

For the 2.9 V6 owner who wants one package with nothing left to source, the Tarox 330mm is the only kit on this page that delivers that. It arrives complete, it is built for the V6 specifically, and if you want to understand the disc specification in more detail, ring us before ordering and we will pull the current Tarox build sheet.

If you are not sure which kit suits your car, call us on 0115 9893488 with your wheel size and which Scorpio you have. Cameron handles the fitment questions and can confirm whether a kit clears your wheels before anything goes to order.
