Our Top Recommended Big Brake Upgrade Kits For Your Ford Mustang
Three builds, three brackets. That is the thing about the Ford Mustang if you are buying an aftermarket brake kit. The SN95 (1994 to 2004), S197 (2005 to 2014) and S550 (2015 to 2023) all run different front hub designs, and the bracket that connects a big brake kit caliper to the hub is specific to the hub. An S550 kit will not bolt onto an S197, and an S197 kit will not fit an SN95. Before you read a price on this page, confirm which generation your car is.
Brembo cover the S197 and S550 in the current 2026 GT catalogue. There is no Brembo listing for the SN95 (1994 to 2004). The S197 carries GT-A and GT-M front kits at 355mm. The S550 carries GT-M, GT-BM, GT-S and GT-R at 380mm, plus a 405mm disc option for the S550 GT. On the S550 GT specifically, the 405mm kit is the largest disc in the BB4U brake guide programme.
Tarox list a 360mm GT front kit for all three generations: SN95, S197 and S550. They also list a 400mm GT for the S197 and S550, with a 19-inch wheel minimum. Neither Tarox kit carries a V6 or EcoBoost designation on the product page; both list under the Ford Mustang GT name. Brembo cover the S197 V6 alongside the GT, with a note on some S197 V6 builds with ABS on the rear caliper. Cameron can confirm V6 or EcoBoost fitment on 0115 9893488.
- Three hub generations: SN95 (1994 to 2004), S197 (2005 to 2014), S550 (2015 to 2023). Brackets are not interchangeable between generations

Brembo and Tarox on the Ford Mustang
Tarox list two front kits for the Mustang in the current catalogue. The 360mm GT covers the SN95 (1994 to 2004), S197 (2005 to 2014) and S550 (2015 to 2023): all three generations from one product. The caliper behind the 360mm kit is the B34GT or B360, which is an eight-piston design. Some versions of this product appear in the catalogue under a “10 pot” label in the title; the product description confirms eight pistons, and that is what is in the box.
The Tarox 400mm GT covers the S197 and S550 only, with a 19-inch wheel minimum. The caliper is the B400 or B40R, a genuine twelve-piston design. Both Tarox kits include pads and braided hoses. Neither Tarox kit carries a V6 or EcoBoost designation on the product page; both appear under the Mustang GT name. Ring Cameron on 0115 9893488 to confirm Tarox fitment for a V6 or EcoBoost build.
Brembo cover the S197 and S550 in the 2026 GT catalogue. The S197 front options are the GT-A four-piston at 355mm and the GT-M six-piston at 355mm, both in two-piece disc form. The S197 V6 has its own Brembo GT-A listing; some early S197 V6 builds have ABS integrated into the rear caliper and the fitting note flags this. All S550 front kits are at 380mm, with a separate 405mm disc range for the S550 GT. The 405mm kit is Brembo’s largest offering in the BB4U programme. Brembo do not list any kit for the SN95 generation (1994 to 2004).
Brembo GT Series
S197 (2005 to 2014): GT-A four-piston and GT-M six-piston, both at 355mm two-piece. S550 (2015 to 2023): GT-M, GT-BM, GT-S and GT-R at 380mm; GT-M, GT-BM and GT-R at 405mm for S550 GT only. No SN95 listing. Six to eight weeks, made to order in Italy. S197 V6 covered by GT-A with ABS note on some builds.
Tarox
360mm GT covers SN95, S197 and S550. Eight-piston B34GT/B360 caliper. Pads and braided hoses included. 400mm GT covers S197 and S550: twelve-piston B400/B40R, 19-inch wheel minimum, pads and braided hoses included. Both kits carry the Mustang GT name only; V6 and EcoBoost fitment unconfirmed.
SN95 (1994 to 2004)
Tarox 360mm GT is the only kit on this page confirmed for the SN95 generation. Brembo do not list a kit for the SN95 hub in the current 2026 catalogue. If Brembo SN95 cover is added, this page will be updated.
Which generation is your car?
Build year is the fastest check. SN95 runs from 1994 to 2004. S197 runs from 2005 to 2014. S550 runs from 2015 to 2023. If the car is a 2004, it is the last of the SN95 run; a 2005 is the start of the S197.
Shape is a reliable backup. The SN95 is a rounded, oval-headlight design with a relatively short bonnet relative to the body. The S197 brought back the longer fastback profile and sharper styling. The S550 is the current generation: wider, longer and lower, with triple LED running lights at the front and wide rear haunches.
Ring Cameron on 0115 9893488 if you want confirmation from the VIN before ordering. The generation is the most important thing to get right on this car.
| Generation | Years | Tarox kits on this page | Brembo kits on this page |
|---|---|---|---|
| SN95 | 1994 to 2004 | 360mm GT (8-piston) | None listed |
| S197 | 2005 to 2014 | 360mm GT, 400mm GT (19in min) | GT-A 355mm, GT-M 355mm |
| S550 | 2015 to 2023 | 360mm GT, 400mm GT (19in min) | GT-M 380mm, GT-R 380mm, 405mm range (S550 GT only) |
Wheel clearance
For the Tarox 360mm GT, wheel clearance is not published by Tarox for the Mustang. Cameron will check clearance from the Tarox caliper dimensions when you ring 0115 9893488.
For the Tarox 400mm GT, the minimum wheel size is 19 inches. This is stated on the product page. Anything smaller than 19 inch will not clear the B400/B40R caliper and the 400mm disc.
For Brembo kits, wheel clearance is confirmed from the A, B and C dimensions on the Brembo caliper drawing, linked from each product page on this site. The A dimension gives caliper height above the disc face; B is caliper depth to the wheel mounting surface; C is caliper width. Disc diameter alone is not the guide: the GT-M and the GT-R both run 380mm discs on the S550 but the caliper bodies are different shapes. Ring Cameron on 0115 9893488 to check clearance against your specific wheel before ordering.
Tarox 360mm GT front kit: SN95, S197 and S550
The Tarox 360mm GT covers all three Ford Mustang generations: SN95 (1994 to 2004), S197 (2005 to 2014) and S550 (2015 to 2023). At £3,210 inc VAT, it is the lowest price complete front kit on this page and the only kit confirmed for the SN95. For SN95 owners, this is the one.
The caliper is the B34GT or B360: eight pistons. The product title on this site carries a “10 pot” label, which is incorrect. The product description explicitly states the B34GT/B360 caliper with eight pistons, and that is what Tarox manufacture for this kit. Eight pistons across the 360mm disc face is more than enough for road and trackday use on the Mustang.
The kit includes the caliper, disc, pads and braided hoses. Ring Cameron on 0115 9893488 to confirm the bracket version for your year of car and to get the current stock position.
- £3,210 inc VAT
- 360mm disc, eight-piston B34GT/B360 caliper
- Covers SN95, S197 and S550: all three generations
- Pads and braided hoses included
- Product title says "10 pot"; caliper description confirms eight pistons
- Ring Cameron on 0115 9893488 for bracket confirmation by year
Brembo GT-A 355mm front: S197 (2005 to 2014)
The Brembo GT-A 355mm front kit is listed for the S197 Ford Mustang GT and V6. The caliper is GT-A: a four-piston two-piece aluminium body. The disc is 355mm two-piece with a separate aluminium bell. At £3,719.68 inc VAT, the GT-A sits between the Tarox 360mm and the Brembo GT-M in the S197 price order. You get Brembo caliper quality and the two-piece disc format, two pistons fewer than the GT-M.
V6 coverage: Brembo list the S197 V6 under a separate part number. Some S197 V6 builds have ABS integrated into the rear caliper assembly, not a standalone ABS module. This does not affect the front brake kit, but Cameron will check the build note against your VIN when you ring 0115 9893488. S197 GT owners have a straightforward fit.
Made to order at the Brembo factory in Italy. Six to eight weeks from when the order goes in. No disc design premium: cross-drilled and Type 3 slotted are the same price.
- £3,719.68 inc VAT
- 355mm two-piece disc with aluminium bell, GT-A four-piston two-piece aluminium caliper
- S197 generation only (2005 to 2014): GT and V6 models
- S197 V6: some builds have ABS on rear caliper; ring Cameron on 0115 9893488 to confirm
- Cross-drilled or Type 3 slotted: same price either way
- Made to order: six to eight weeks
Brembo GT-M: S197 355mm and S550 380mm
The GT-M is listed for both the S197 and S550, but at different disc sizes because the two generations use different front hub geometry. The S197 GT-M runs a 355mm two-piece disc at £4,295.95 inc VAT. The S550 GT-M runs a 380mm two-piece disc at £4,662.68 inc VAT. These are separate kits with separate brackets. An S197 owner and an S550 owner both looking at the GT-M are looking at different products.
The caliper is GT-M: a six-piston monobloc cast aluminium body. Monobloc means the body is machined from one solid aluminium billet, with no external bridge and no bolted joint connecting the two halves. The result is a stiffer caliper under braking load and lower unsprung weight compared with a bolted two-piece body at the same piston count. Six pistons across the disc face distribute clamping load more evenly than four.
The S550 GT-M at 380mm is the step-up over the GT-A disc size, not just the caliper. If the car is an S550, the starting point on the Brembo GT range is a 380mm disc from the outset. Ring Cameron on 0115 9893488 to confirm the right product for the generation.
- S197: £4,295.95 inc VAT, 355mm two-piece disc, GT-M six-piston monobloc
- S550: £4,662.68 inc VAT, 380mm two-piece disc, GT-M six-piston monobloc
- Different kits, different brackets: S197 and S550 products are not interchangeable
- Monobloc caliper body: no external bridge, stiffer under load
- Cross-drilled or Type 3 slotted: same price either way
- Made to order: six to eight weeks
Tarox 400mm GT front kit: S197 and S550 (19-inch minimum)
The Tarox 400mm GT covers the S197 (2005 to 2014) and S550 (2015 to 2023) at £4,230 inc VAT. The caliper is the B400 or B40R: twelve pistons. At 400mm disc diameter and twelve pistons, this is Tarox at the top of their Mustang front kit range. The 19-inch wheel minimum applies; this is confirmed on the product page.
Pads and braided hoses are included, same as the 360mm kit. Tarox confirmed this kit under the Mustang GT name. Ring Cameron on 0115 9893488 for confirmation if the car is a V6 or EcoBoost; Tarox V6/EcoBoost fitment is not listed.
At £4,230, the 400mm GT sits between the Brembo GT-M S197 (355mm, £4,295.95) and the Brembo GT-M S550 (380mm, £4,662.68). On an S550 with 19-inch alloys, the Tarox 400mm and the Brembo GT-M 380mm are both relevant options. Bigger disc on the Tarox; more sophisticated caliper design on the GT-M. Cameron will talk you through the difference on 0115 9893488.
- £4,230 inc VAT
- 400mm disc, twelve-piston B400/B40R caliper
- Covers S197 and S550: 19-inch alloys minimum
- Pads and braided hoses included
- Does not cover the SN95 generation
- Tarox GT name only; V6/EcoBoost fitment unconfirmed
Brembo GT-R 380mm flagship: S550 (2015 to 2023)
The GT-R is Brembo’s top S550 front kit at 380mm. The caliper is six-piston billet aluminium with hard anodising: the surface treatment Brembo carry across from their competition caliper programme. At £8,906.26 inc VAT, the GT-R is the most expensive front kit on this page.
Garreth’s view: the GT-R is not a step-up from the GT-M in the sense that Cameron would steer most people towards it. The caliper surface and the hard anodised finish are what you are paying for. Both the GT-M and the GT-R run 380mm two-piece discs with six pistons on the S550. If the brief is maximum Brembo quality at 380mm, the GT-R is that. If the brief is the best brake performance on a given budget, Cameron’s answer for most S550 owners starts with the GT-M.
If you have 19-inch alloys and want to consider the 405mm disc option instead, the 405mm GT-R is the next section down this page. Both are S550 only; the 405mm range is S550 GT only.
- £8,906.26 inc VAT
- 380mm two-piece disc, GT-R six-piston hard anodised billet aluminium caliper
- S550 generation only (2015 to 2023)
- Hard anodised billet: the competition caliper specification from Brembo
- Cross-drilled or Type 3 slotted: same price either way
- Made to order: six to eight weeks
Brembo 405mm kits: S550 GT only
Three Brembo front kits are available at 405mm for the Ford Mustang, and all three are S550 GT only. This is the largest disc in the BB4U brake guide programme. Brembo list the GT-M, GT-BM and GT-R at 405mm for the S550 GT, at £5,134.20, £5,396.15 and £9,424.91 inc VAT respectively.
The GT-BM at 405mm uses the GT-BM caliper body: an internally ported cast design with no external fluid galleries. The GT-BM and GT-S are both priced at the same level for the S550 380mm kits; at 405mm the GT-BM is £5,396.15 and the GT-M is £5,134.20.
All three 405mm kits are S550 GT only. The S550 V6 and EcoBoost are not listed by Brembo at 405mm. These kits also require larger wheel clearance than the 380mm range; ring Cameron on 0115 9893488 to confirm clearance from the Brembo drawing before ordering.
- GT-M 405mm: £5,134.20 inc VAT
- GT-BM 405mm: £5,396.15 inc VAT
- GT-R 405mm: £9,424.91 inc VAT
- S550 GT only: not listed for S550 V6 or EcoBoost
- Largest disc in the BB4U big brake guide programme
- Wheel clearance check required: ring Cameron on 0115 9893488
- Made to order: six to eight weeks

Common questions
Will an S197 kit fit an SN95?
No. The SN95 (1994 to 2004) and S197 (2005 to 2014) use different front hub designs. The bracket is cast and machined for a specific hub geometry. An S197 bracket will not locate correctly on an SN95 hub. The only kits on this page confirmed for the SN95 are the Tarox 360mm GT. Brembo do not list an SN95 front kit in the current 2026 catalogue.
Will an S550 kit fit an S197?
No. The S550 (2015 to 2023) and S197 (2005 to 2014) use different front hub designs and different bracket geometry. An S550 kit will not bolt onto an S197 hub. If you are not sure which generation your car is, ring Cameron on 0115 9893488 with the build year and he will confirm from the VIN before any order is placed.
The Tarox 360mm says "10 pot" on the listing. Is it ten pistons?
No. The product description for the Tarox 360mm GT states the B34GT/B360 caliper, which is an eight-piston design. The "10 pot" label in the product title is incorrect. We have confirmed this against the Tarox product description and the caliper designation. What arrives is an eight-piston caliper.
Does Tarox cover the V6 or EcoBoost?
Neither the Tarox 360mm GT nor the Tarox 400mm GT carries a V6 or EcoBoost designation on the product page; both appear under the Ford Mustang GT name. We have not confirmed Tarox fitment for V6 or EcoBoost models. Ring Cameron on 0115 9893488 before ordering either Tarox kit on a V6 or EcoBoost.
Does the Brembo GT-A cover the S197 V6?
Yes. Brembo list the S197 V6 under a separate GT-A 355mm part number. Some early S197 V6 builds have ABS integrated into the rear caliper assembly. This does not affect the front brake kit but Cameron will check the build note against the VIN before the order goes in. Ring 0115 9893488.
What is the difference between the GT-M and the GT-BM?
The GT-M has a conventional monobloc cast aluminium caliper with external brake fluid galleries. The GT-BM uses a cast caliper body with internal passages, which Brembo machine using their 4D casting process. The internal routing removes the external fluid pipes from the caliper exterior. On the S550 GT at 405mm, the GT-BM is £261.95 more than the GT-M. Cameron will walk through the differences on 0115 9893488.
Are the 405mm kits significantly different from the 380mm kits in terms of wheel clearance?
Yes. A 405mm disc is 25mm larger in diameter than a 380mm disc, which means the caliper sits higher and further out. You need more wheel clearance for the 405mm kits than for the 380mm kits at the same caliper family. Ring Cameron on 0115 9893488 with your wheel make, model and offset before committing to a 405mm kit.
How long does a Brembo kit take to arrive?
Six to eight weeks from the date the order goes in is Brembo's current lead time for made-to-order GT kits built in Italy. The caliper colour and disc face finish are set when the order is placed. Ask Cameron on 0115 9893488 for the current position from the factory before committing; nothing on this page is shelf stock.
What we would actually fit
SN95 (1994 to 2004): the Tarox 360mm GT at £3,210 is the only confirmed front kit on this page for the SN95 generation. Brembo do not list an SN95 kit. For SN95 owners, that is the decision made.
S197 (2005 to 2014): the Brembo GT-A at £3,719.68 is a solid step up from Tarox at not much more money. If the budget runs to £4,295.95, the GT-M gives you six pistons and a monobloc caliper for the extra £576. Garreth’s view: for an S197 used for regular trackdays, the GT-M is the right call. For a road car where the budget is tighter, the GT-A is a properly specified kit.
S550 (2015 to 2023): the GT-M 380mm at £4,662.68 is where Garreth would start. The GT-R 380mm at £8,906.26 is for someone who wants the hard anodised billet finish and is not treating the extra £4,243.58 as a performance decision. If the car has 19-inch alloys and budget is the constraint, the Tarox 400mm GT at £4,230 is worth considering alongside the GT-M.
S550 GT with 19-inch or larger alloys: the 405mm GT-M at £5,134.20 is the most disc for the money in the 405mm range. Cameron will confirm whether the clearance works on your specific wheels before anything is ordered. Ring 0115 9893488.
