Our Top Recommended Big Brake Upgrade Kits For Your BMW 3 Series

Three Series buyers come to this page in two groups: F30 (2012-2018) and G20 (2019 onwards). The disc size Brembo supplies is different for each generation, so picking the right kit starts with knowing which one you have. F30 cars are fitted with a 355mm front kit; G20 cars get the larger 380mm. Both are made to order in Italy with a six to eight week lead time.

Five kits on this page, all Brembo. Two cover the F30 at 355mm; three cover the G20 at 380mm. Tarox do not list a kit for the F30 or G20 generation, checked across brand name and BMW-specific category codes. HiSpec Motorsport do not list a kit for this application either. The full BMW 3 Series brake kit range is on the site if you want to browse the complete catalogue.

  • F30 (2012-2018): Brembo GT-M 355mm (£4,295.95) and GT-S 355mm (£4,400.74); both 6 piston, 355x32mm 2-piece disc
  • G20 (2019+): GT-M 380mm (£4,662.68), GT-BM 380mm (£4,767.47) and GT-R 380mm (£8,906.26); all 6 piston, 380x34mm 2-piece disc
  • M-Sport brake pack cars need the M-Sport bracket; standard brake cars need a different one: Brembo lists both, check your car before ordering
  • All five kits are made to order in Italy: six to eight weeks from order to dispatch
  • Wheel clearance: check the PDF on each product page; call us if you are on a non-standard wheel
BMW 3 Series on track, big brake upgrade guide
The BMW 3 Series. F30 (2012-2018) and G20 (2019+) share these shop categories but take different Brembo disc sizes; the guide covers both.

F30 and G20: which generation is yours?

The F30 ran from 2012 to 2018 and covered the 320i, 328i, 330i, 340i and diesel variants. The G20 replaced it from 2019 onwards with the same model names but a new platform and a wider body. They share these shop categories because the engine names overlap, but the brake kit sizes are different.

Your registration year is the quickest check. A 3 Series registered before March 2019 will almost certainly be an F30. Registered from March 2019 onwards, it is a G20. If you are still not sure, the chassis code is on the vehicle identification plate in the engine bay: F30 starts with WBA or WBS; the G20 shows G20 explicitly in most European-market VINs. If in doubt, drop us an email or click to open a chat and Cameron will confirm from the VIN.

F30

F30: 2012-2018

320i, 328i, 328d, 330i, 340i and Touring variants. Brembo front kit at 355mm disc diameter. Two caliper options: GT-M monobloc and GT-S billet. Both at 355x32mm, 6 piston, 2-piece floating disc. From £4,295.95 inc VAT.

G20

G20: 2019 onwards

318i, 320i, 330i, M340i and further variants. Brembo front kit at 380mm disc diameter. Three caliper options: GT-M, GT-BM and GT-R. All at 380x34mm, 6 piston, 2-piece floating disc. From £4,662.68 inc VAT.

M-Sport brake pack: check before you order

The M-Sport trim level covered a lot of kit over the F30 run, but not every M-Sport car came with the M-Sport brake pack. The brake pack added larger front calipers, and those need a different Brembo bracket to fit the big brake kit correctly. Brembo supplies both: a bracket for cars with standard factory brakes and a bracket for cars with M-Sport brakes.

The quickest way to check: look at the front calipers through the wheel. Standard brakes on the F30 have a single-piston sliding caliper, painted black or grey. The M-Sport brake pack has a four-piston fixed caliper with a darker finish and a more substantial body. If you cannot tell from a visual check, the options sticker in the boot (or dealer spec sheet) will list it. The G20 listing we stock covers the standard brake configuration; if your G20 has a non-standard factory brake setup, call us to confirm before ordering.

Select the correct bracket variant for your carWhen you add an F30 kit to your basket, the product will show options for standard brakes and M-Sport brakes. Pick the wrong one and the caliper will not line up with the disc. Check the caliper through the wheel before ordering, or call Cameron and he will walk you through it.

Wheel clearance

Each Brembo product page includes a caliper clearance PDF as a download link. That drawing shows the minimum internal wheel diameter and spoke clearance for the kit. Check it against your wheel before ordering; if the car is on aftermarket alloys, tell us the make, model and offset and Cameron will confirm fit before anything is built in Italy.

The minimum wheel size for the F30 355mm kits and the G20 380mm kits is confirmed in the drawing on a per-kit basis, because spoke depth and offset both affect whether a given wheel clears. On factory BMW alloys the kits are designed to fit without modification.

Factory wheels and most aftermarket alloys clear without issueThese kits are designed for the F30 and G20 respectively and the factory BMW alloys are not a concern. Aftermarket wheels with a deep concave profile or unusual offsets are worth confirming first. Drop us an email or click to open a chat and Cameron will check the drawing against your wheel.

GT-M 355mm: the entry Brembo for the F30 (2012-2018)

The GT-M 355mm is the entry point for F30 buyers. At £4,295.95 inc VAT it comes with the Gran Turismo monobloc six-piston caliper, a 355x32mm two-piece floating disc and pads and hoses already in the box. Monobloc means the caliper body is a single casting without a bridge bolt, which removes a potential source of flex under load.

Caliper colour is a free choice: black, silver, yellow and red are listed. The disc finish is cross-drilled or slotted. Both are at the same price. Select the variant for your engine and brake pack before ordering: separate bracket options exist for standard and M-Sport brake configurations. Made to order in Italy, six to eight weeks.

  • £4,295.95 inc VAT, complete
  • 355x32mm 2-piece floating disc: cross-drilled or slotted at the same price
  • GT-M 6-piston monobloc caliper; caliper colour choice (black, silver, yellow, red)
  • Pads and braided hoses included
  • Standard and M-Sport brake pack bracket options listed separately: select the right one
  • Made to order in Italy: six to eight weeks
  • Clearance PDF on the product page

GT-S 355mm: billet caliper at the same disc size, £105 more

The GT-S 355mm costs £4,400.74 inc VAT, which is £105 more than the GT-M at the same 355mm disc size. The difference is the caliper: the GT-S uses a billet aluminium body machined from solid bar (not a casting), and Brembo fit racing-style piston radiators behind the pads to pull heat out of the fluid more aggressively during extended braking.

For a car that does occasional track evenings, the £105 premium is easy to justify. For a road car that sees the occasional track day, the GT-M is the more straightforward choice and the disc size is identical. Both come with the same bracket options for standard and M-Sport brake packs, the same caliper colour choice, and the same six to eight week wait from the Curno factory.

  • £4,400.74 inc VAT, complete (£105 more than the GT-M at the same disc diameter)
  • 355x32mm 2-piece floating disc: cross-drilled or slotted at the same price
  • GT-S 6-piston billet aluminium caliper with racing piston radiators
  • Pads and braided hoses included
  • Standard and M-Sport brake pack bracket options: select the right one
  • Made to order in Italy: six to eight weeks
  • Clearance PDF on the product page

GT-M 380mm: the entry Brembo for the G20 (2019+)

G20 buyers start here. At £4,662.68 inc VAT the GT-M 380mm covers the 330i and M340i from 2019 onwards with the same Gran Turismo monobloc six-piston caliper as the F30 GT-M, scaled up to a 380x34mm disc. The disc is 25mm larger in diameter and 2mm thicker than the F30 kit, which gives more thermal mass across a track session.

Caliper colour and disc finish choices are the same as the 355mm: black, silver, yellow or red caliper; cross-drilled or slotted disc at the same price. The kit is complete with pads and braided hoses. Made to order in Italy, six to eight weeks. The clearance PDF is on the product page.

  • £4,662.68 inc VAT, complete
  • 380x34mm 2-piece floating disc: cross-drilled or slotted at the same price
  • GT-M 6-piston monobloc caliper; caliper colour choice (black, silver, yellow, red)
  • Pads and braided hoses included
  • Covers G20 330i and M340i from 2019 onwards
  • Made to order in Italy: six to eight weeks
  • Clearance PDF on the product page

GT-BM 380mm: the 4D cast caliper, internal fluid passages

The GT-BM costs £4,767.47 inc VAT, the same as the GT-S 380mm. What makes the GT-BM different is how the caliper is made. Brembo call it 4D casting: the fluid passages are cast directly into the caliper body during manufacture, with no drilling and no passage plugs needed afterwards. That means the internal geometry of the fluid circuit can be optimised more freely, and the bleed screw sits recessed inside the body, not exposed on the outside.

The GT-BM and GT-S are listed at the same price for the G20 application. The GT-BM is the newer manufacturing approach; the GT-S is the traditional premium billet caliper. Both perform on the same disc. If you have a preference for one engineering method over the other, the price does not make the choice for you.

  • £4,767.47 inc VAT, complete (same price as GT-S 380mm; different caliper technology)
  • 380x34mm 2-piece floating disc: cross-drilled or slotted at the same price
  • GT-BM 6-piston caliper, 4D cast: internal fluid passages, recessed bleed screw
  • Pads and braided hoses included
  • Covers G20 330i and M340i from 2019 onwards
  • Made to order in Italy: six to eight weeks
  • Clearance PDF on the product page

GT-R 380mm: the flagship, hard anodised, £8,906

The GT-R costs £8,906.26 inc VAT and is the top of the Brembo Gran Turismo range for the 3 Series. The caliper is billet aluminium with a hard anodised finish that is more resistant to surface damage than standard anodising. Brembo engrave the GT-R logo in red through the anodised layer: a clean contrast without painted decals that can bubble or peel at track temperatures.

The disc is the same 380x34mm 2-piece floating unit as the GT-M and GT-BM, so the thermal capacity is identical at that level. The GT-R price premium sits in the caliper finish and construction. If the car is built around a Brembo GT-R setup, it is the correct choice; for a car that sees regular track evenings rather than a dedicated circuit season, the GT-BM or GT-S at £4,767.47 is harder to argue against at roughly half the price.

  • £8,906.26 inc VAT, complete
  • 380x34mm 2-piece floating disc: cross-drilled or slotted at the same price
  • GT-R 6-piston billet caliper, hard anodised; red engraved logo
  • Pads and braided hoses included
  • Covers G20 330i and M340i from 2019 onwards
  • Made to order in Italy: six to eight weeks
  • Clearance PDF on the product page

Common questions

Does Tarox make a kit for the F30 or G20?

No. Tarox cover a wide BMW range but the F30 and G20 generations are not in their current UK catalogue. We checked by brand name and by the BMW-specific category codes before building this guide. If a listing appears in future we will add a section here.

Does HiSpec make a kit for the 3 Series?

No. HiSpec Motorsport do not currently list a kit for the F30 or G20 3 Series. We checked the catalogue. All five kits on this page are Brembo Gran Turismo units.

My car is an F30 330i (2017 or 2018). Which kit fits?

The 355mm F30 kits cover the 330i from 2017 to 2018. The GT-M 355mm at £4,295.95 and the GT-S 355mm at £4,400.74 both list the 330i exc xDrive/M-Sport Brakes for that year range. Check the M-Sport brake pack section above and select the right bracket variant when you order.

What is the difference between GT-BM and GT-S at the same price?

Both cost £4,767.47 for the G20 380mm application. The GT-BM uses 4D casting: fluid passages are cast into the body during manufacture, the bleed screw sits recessed inside the caliper, and there are no drilled-passage plugs. The GT-S is machined from billet aluminium bar and uses racing-style piston radiators. Same price, different engineering approach. Garreth would lean toward the GT-BM for the cleaner internal fluid circuit, but neither is a wrong choice.

How do I know if my car has the M-Sport brake pack?

Look at the front calipers through the wheel. Standard F30 brakes use a single-piston sliding caliper. The M-Sport brake pack has a four-piston fixed caliper with a larger, more solid body. The options sticker in the boot lists it if the car was specced new; dealer spec sheets and service history paperwork may also show it. If you are not sure, drop us an email or click to open a chat with the registration and Cameron will check it.

Can I fit a G20 380mm kit on an F30?

No. The 380mm kits are developed for the G20 hub and suspension geometry. Brembo do not list a 380mm kit for the F30. The correct front kits for F30 cars are at 355mm.

What is the lead time?

Six to eight weeks. All five kits on this page are made to order at Brembo's factory in Curno, northern Italy. Nothing on this page is off the shelf. If the car is off the road and timing is tight, tell Cameron when you call and we will confirm the current lead time before you commit to an order.

Do these kits work with ABS?

Yes. The kits replace the front caliper and disc while retaining the standard wheel speed sensors and hub geometry, so ABS reads normally. Brembo state full ABS and stability control compatibility on these kits. If the car has any non-standard ABS configuration, confirm with us before ordering.

What we would actually fit

On an F30, Garreth’s starting point is the GT-M 355mm at £4,295.95. The monobloc caliper is the right unit for road use and occasional track days, and the six to eight week wait is the main thing to plan around. If the car does regular track evenings, the extra £105 for the GT-S 355mm is worth it: the billet caliper with racing piston radiators handles repeated hard stops more consistently.

On a G20, start with the GT-M 380mm at £4,662.68. The 380x34mm disc gives more thermal mass than the F30 355mm kit and the monobloc caliper is a straightforward setup. If the budget is there and the car sees serious circuit use, the GT-BM 380mm at £4,767.47 is Garreth’s choice over the GT-S at the same price: the 4D cast caliper body and internal fluid passages are the cleaner engineering. The GT-R 380mm at £8,906.26 is correct for a car built around Brembo’s flagship, but for most 3 Series use the GT-BM is the more rational stopping point.

On M-Sport bracket selection: check the caliper through the wheel before ordering. Getting the bracket wrong is easy to avoid and harder to sort out once the kit has been built in Italy. Cameron handles fitment queries on both generations; ring us on 0115 9893488 before committing to an order and he will confirm everything is correct for your car.
