Our Top Recommended Big Brake Upgrade Kits For Your Audi A2
The HiSpec range for the Audi A2 starts in a different place from most cars in this series. On a Golf or a Civic the entry is usually a Billet 4 at 280 or 285mm. On the A2, the entry is a 315mm Monster 4 at £1,365 inc VAT. The single Billet 4 in the range is a 325mm kit shared with the S2 which costs more (£1,470) and needs 17 inch wheels. If your A2 is on standard 15 or 16 inch alloys, Monster 4 is the natural starting point here, not the step up.
Tarox do not cover the A2 in our catalogue, so all seven kits here are HiSpec, made to order in Dartford. The range runs from 314mm to 360mm, with disc sizes stepping through 16, 17 and 18 inch wheel requirements. Tarox have no A2 kit in the catalogue, so this guide is HiSpec only. That is not a compromise: HiSpec are the dominant brand in our brake range for small to medium road cars and their calipers are machined from 6082 T6 billet aluminium at their own facility in Dartford.

The number that decides it: wheel size
Every kit in this guide has a published minimum wheel diameter from HiSpec. That figure is a property of the disc and caliper, not the car, so it holds across every vehicle HiSpec list that kit against. Depth is the only car-specific check: a wheel of the right diameter can still foul the caliper if the back of the spokes sits too close to the disc face. That is Cameron’s corner. The vane pattern changes at 325mm. The 314mm and 315mm kits use straight vane rotors. The 325mm Billet 4, both 335mm Monster kits and both 360mm Monster kits all use curved vane rotors. Curved vanes move air through the disc faster at higher rotation speeds, which is useful on a track day or a sporting road car pushed hard.
315mm Monster 4 (16 inch, entry)
The entry kit for the A2 and the pick Garreth would point at for a car that still wears standard alloys. At £1,365 inc VAT it is the most affordable kit in the range, and everything arrives in one box: the two Monster 4 calipers, straight vane discs, bracket set, hardware, EBC Redstuff pads, Dot 5.1 fluid and braided hoses.
The Monster 4 caliper has a pad surface area one third larger than HiSpec’s Billet 4. That sounds counterintuitive as an entry-level choice, but HiSpec simply do not list a smaller Billet 4 for the A2, so this is where the range starts. The 315mm disc clears 16 inch wheels, which covers most A2 alloy sizes. If you are on 15 inch steel wheels, check the spoke clearance before ordering.

314mm Monster 6 (16 inch, six piston)
The 314mm Monster 6 is the six-piston version of the entry disc. The disc size is nearly identical to the Monster 4 (one millimetre smaller), so it also clears 16 inch wheels, but the caliper has up to 63% more piston area. Pedal feel changes noticeably at that piston count, which is why this is a popular choice for track regulars who want to stay on their current wheels.
At £1,683 it costs £318 more than the 315mm Monster 4. The rest of the kit is the same: straight vane discs, EBC Redstuff pads, Dot 5.1 fluid and braided hoses all in the box. The Monster 6 weighs fractionally more than the Monster 4 because of the extra pistons, but unsprung weight still drops versus the standard cast iron and sliding caliper setup.

325mm Billet 4 (17 inch, the kit with the awkward name)
This is the only Billet 4 in the A2 range. The listing name says “A2-S2” because the “A2” in that title is Audi’s internal platform code for the B3 body, which covers the 80, the Coupe and the S2 coupe from the early 1990s. It is not referring to the modern Audi A2 hatchback. HiSpec use that name because the same brackets fit the S2 and the A2 hatchback, so the listing sits in both categories.
For A2 hatchback owners, the kit is confirmed for this car. What it does differently: the Billet 4 caliper is narrower and lighter than the Monster 4. The 325mm disc needs 17 inch wheels, so if you are on standard 16 inch alloys you would need to upsize first. One other difference from the Monster kits: the Billet 4 includes pads and Dot 5.1 fluid, but the braided hoses are priced as an optional extra rather than included in the box.

335mm Monster range (17 inch, curved vanes)
At 335mm the discs switch from straight to curved vanes. HiSpec run curved vanes on the larger discs because they move more air at higher rotation speeds, helping the disc shed heat on a track day or a sustained run on a hot motorway. Both the Monster 4 and Monster 6 are available at 335mm, and both need 17 inch wheels.
One price note on the Monster 4: the 335mm kit lists at £1,650 inc VAT, which is £15 more than the larger 360mm Monster 4 at £1,635. That is a backwards price, not a typo. 360mm Monster range (18 inch, flagship)
The top of the HiSpec A2 range. Both 360mm kits use curved vane rotors and need 18 inch wheels. The Monster 4 at £1,635 inc VAT is, oddly, the cheaper option at this disc size, with the Monster 6 stepping up to £1,863. At 360mm and an 18 inch wheel requirement, these kits are best suited to an A2 that has moved well beyond standard specification: track preparation, weight reduction, engine work.
The A2 in standard form weighs around 895 to 1,050kg depending on specification. It is a light car, and the 315mm Monster 4 covers most real-world needs including track days. The 360mm kits exist for the builds that have outgrown that, and the piston area on the Monster 6 at this disc size is substantial.

If the car is already on 18 inch wheels

What is actually in each box
Six of the seven kits arrive complete, but the Billet 4 is the exception. That is the only kit where braided hoses are priced separately. All Monster kits include pads, fluid and hoses.

Common questions
Will the "A2-S2" Billet 4 actually fit my A2 hatchback?
Yes. The "A2" in the name is Audi's internal designation for the B3 body shell used on the 80, Coupe and S2 from the late 1980s and early 1990s. It happens to be the same two letters as the modern Audi A2 hatchback, which causes confusion. HiSpec have categorised the kit for both cars because the bracket geometry works on both. Can I keep my standard 15 or 16 inch wheels?
If your A2 is on 15 inch wheels, the 315mm and 314mm Monster kits both require 16 inch as the minimum, so you would need to upsize. If you are already on 16 inch alloys, those two kits will clear, subject to the spoke clearance check (60mm from the back of the spokes to the disc face). What is the difference between Monster 4 and Monster 6?
Same disc. Different caliper. The Monster 6 has six pistons and up to 63% more piston area than the Monster 4. In practice the Monster 6 gives a firmer, more progressive pedal feel and a harder bite, which is useful on track. On the road the Monster 4 is generally enough. The Monster 6 is heavier, though both are lighter than the original sliding caliper and cast iron disc setup.
What is the difference between straight vane and curved vane discs?
The vanes are the pillars between the two faces of the disc. Straight vanes run radially and pull air through the disc straightforwardly. Curved vanes are angled so they pump air more aggressively at higher rotation speeds. HiSpec use straight vanes on the 314 and 315mm kits and switch to curved vanes at 325mm and above. For normal road use the difference is small. For track use at sustained high speeds, curved vanes run cooler.
The 360mm Monster 4 costs less than the 335mm Monster 4. Is that right?
It is, and it is not a pricing error as far as we can tell. The 360mm Monster 4 lists at £1,635 and the 335mm Monster 4 lists at £1,650, so the bigger disc genuinely costs £15 less at the Monster 4 level. We have flagged this to HiSpec. If the prices change, the live listings will reflect it first.
What we would actually fit
For most A2 owners on standard or near-standard wheels, the 315mm Monster 4 is the pick. £1,365 inc VAT, complete kit, and it steps up the stopping power meaningfully without asking you to change your wheels. If you track the car regularly and want more pedal feel, the 314mm Monster 6 stays on 16 inch and adds six-piston response at a higher price.
The 325mm Billet 4 makes most sense if you already have 17 inch wheels and prefer the narrower Billet 4 caliper profile. Budget for the hoses separately on that kit. The 335mm pair are for modified A2s on 17s that want the curved-vane disc cooling. The 360mm pair are for cars built specifically for track use.
