Which Brembo Big Brake Kit Fits A 2007 Honda Civic Type S, And What Wheels Will It Clear?

A customer asked us which Brembo 4 pot kit with grooved discs fits a 2007 Honda Civic Type S for fast road use, and what wheel clearance it needs. The Brembo kit we list for this generation is the GT-A 328mm at £3,300.55 inc VAT, and the grooved discs are the slotted Type 3 option. The listing names the Civic Gen8, 2006 to 2011, not the Type S, so we check your reg before an order goes in. On wheels, 17 inch is the smallest we would put it behind, and your spoke shape and offset decide whether yours clear.

  • Prices read from the live site, inc VAT
  • Fitment and disc details taken from the product listings
  • Wheel sizes taken from Tarox's published figures and Brembo's own drawing

Which Brembo kit is listed for the Gen8 Civic

We list one Brembo 4 pot front kit for the 2006 to 2011 Civic. It’s the Brembo GT-A, a 328 x 28mm two-piece disc with a two-piece four piston caliper, and the listing calls the car the Honda Civic DX / EX / LX / SI (Gen8).

You’ll see that same kit under a run of listing names, including Civic Si, Civic Type R, Civic EX and Civic LX Sedan. The ones we opened carry the same description, the same disc and the same £3,300.55 price, so whichever you land on, the kit’s the same. “Just don’t order off the title,” Garreth says. “Your car decides the fit.”

Brembo describe the GT-A as the two piece caliper derived from their original equipment designs. The listing calls it the most straightforward of the GT calipers to install, and says the kit suits road cars that see occasional track use. That’s the brief for a fast road Civic.

No listing says Type SThe listings name the car as Civic DX / EX / LX / SI (Gen8), 2006 to 2011. None of them uses the words Type S, and we're not going to tell you a 2007 Type S fits on the strength of a year range. Send us your reg and Cameron will check it. If you want to do that now, drop us an email or click to open a chat.

What wheel clearance does it need

Brembo don’t print a minimum wheel size for this kit, so we work it out from the disc, the same way the other brands publish theirs. Tarox give 17 inch as the smallest wheel for their 315mm Civic kit and 18 inch for their 340mm one. HiSpec put discs from 325 to 335mm behind 17 inch wheels. The Brembo disc is 328mm, so 17 inch is where we start.

Brembo’s clearance drawing for the kit, part number 1A16022A, shows the caliper itself. It reaches 191.7mm out from the centre of the wheel, and Brembo ask for 3mm of gap all round. Their short guide to measuring your wheels against it is linked on the product page along with the drawing.

Diameter is only half of it. Offset and spoke shape decide the rest, so two 17 inch wheels can behave differently. “Give me the make and model of the wheel, the size and the offset,” Cameron says. “Photos of the inside of the spokes help too. A wheel that looks generous from the front can still catch the caliper at the spoke, and I’d sooner find that out before the kit’s ordered than after.”

Wheel sizes come from Tarox's published figures and the disc diameter. The drawing is Brembo's and sits on the product page.

Grooved discs: slotted Type 3 or cross-drilled

The kit is offered with two disc faces, cross-drilled or slotted Type 3, and when a customer says grooved the slotted face is the one they mean.

The listing says Type 3 slots are the pattern Brembo use in professional motorsport, and that they give a strong initial bite and keep the pad face clean as it beds in. The part number for the slotted discs starts 1AD6022A and the cross-drilled starts 1A16022A. A last digit sets the caliper finish: 1 black, 2 red, 3 silver.

“For a fast road car I’d tick the slotted face,” Garreth says. Cameron has no objection, though he reckons the choice between the two matters less than getting the wheel clearance right. Tell us the disc face and the caliper colour when you order.

Brembo GT-A 328mm 4 pot, front

This is the kit we’d quote for a Gen8 Civic once the reg and the wheels are confirmed. In the box are two 4 piston aluminium calipers, the 328mm two-piece discs with bells, Brembo pads, caliper mounting brackets, braided brake lines and the fitting hardware. It’s a front kit only.

The listing says contents vary slightly by application, so we check the part number against your car before it goes anywhere. For timings, look at the Availability and FAQ tabs on the product page.

If the Brembo will not clear your wheels

Tarox list Civic kits by chassis code rather than by trim, so the fitment question is shorter once we know your car’s code. Two of them sit under the Brembo on price. One is a 315mm 6 piston at £2,045.00, which is £1,255.55 below the Brembo, and the other is a 340mm kit at £2,610.00, which is £690.55 below it.

Both are listed as built for the Civic FN1. Tarox publish the smallest wheel for each: 17 inch for the 315mm and 18 inch for the 340mm. That makes the 315mm the same wheel size as the Brembo for £1,255.55 less, while the 340mm needs an 18 inch wheel. They are an option to ask about, and we would confirm the chassis code against your reg before suggesting either.

The 340mm Tarox title says 10pot. Its description and piston count say 8.

The 315mm Tarox is a complete front kit with B32 six piston calipers, two-piece floating discs, machined alloy brackets, braided hoses and Corsa pads already fitted. The listing says it often fits behind OEM wheels. We would still want your wheel details before saying so for your car.

Common questions

The kit is listed for the Honda Civic Gen8, 2006 to 2011, and the listing doesn’t use the name Type S. Send us your reg and we’ll confirm the fit before you order. We’d rather check than guess on a kit this price.

The slotted Type 3 disc, part number starting 1AD6022A.

Brembo don’t print one, so we go by the 328mm disc. Tarox publish 17 inch for a 315mm disc and 18 inch for a 340mm one, and HiSpec put 325 to 335mm discs behind 17 inch wheels, so 17 inch is the smallest we would put the Brembo behind. Brembo’s clearance drawing for 1A16022A then shows how far the caliper reaches, 191.7mm from the wheel centre.

If they are 17 inch or bigger the diameter is right, and the spokes and offset decide the rest. Give us the make, model, size and offset and we will read them against Brembo’s drawing.

The Civic kit appears under several names, such as Civic Si, Civic Type R and Civic EX.

The ones we opened share one description, one disc and one price, so the title does not change what you receive.

The listing says the GT-A suits road cars that see occasional track use.

Your reg, the make, model, size and offset of your wheels, the disc face you want and the caliper colour. Drop us an email or click to open a chat. We will take it from there.

What we would buy

Garreth's top tip

For a fast road Civic I'd have the Brembo GT-A with the slotted Type 3 discs. The listing says it's meant for a road car that sees the odd track day. Slotted is the face Brembo use in motorsport.

I wouldn't order it until we've confirmed the Type S on your reg, because a year range on a listing isn't enough to spend £3,300.55 on.

Cameron's fitting view

Send me the wheels first. If they clear, the Brembo is a good buy, and if they are tight I would rather tell you now than have you find out with the calipers on the bench.

The Tarox 315mm is £1,255.55 cheaper and listed by chassis code, so it is worth a proper look if your wheels are fussy.
