Work out what fits first
Brake upgrades go wrong for one reason more than any other, and it is wheel clearance rather than choosing the wrong brand. Everything on this page is aimed at getting that right before you order, because most kits are built for your car once you buy and cannot come back afterwards.
Start with your car, not with a brand. Check wheel clearance before anything else. Decide whether you need new calipers or just bigger discs. Then ring us if any of it is uncertain, because a made to order kit is not returnable.
Start with your car, not with a brand
Nobody wakes up wanting a Brembo. They want the car to stop better, and what fits decides the rest.
Do you need new calipers, or just bigger discs?
This is the fork in the road, and it changes the price by a large multiple.
Big brake kit
2,183Products listed- New calipers, discs, bells, lines and mounting brackets
- Vehicle specific, supplied as one matched package
- The right answer for track use and heavier cars
- Needs wheel clearance checking before you order
- Built to order, so not returnable once made
Big disc kit
98Products listed- Larger discs on your original calipers
- Much cheaper, and a far simpler install
- Enough for a lot of fast road cars
- Less clearance risk, because the caliper does not change
- Will not transform a car that is already at its limit
We also list bespoke brake discs, made to your specification where nothing off the shelf fits. It is a small part of the catalogue and it is priced per job, so start with a phone call rather than a basket.
Wheel clearance decides everything
If you read one section before ordering, make it this one.
A big brake kit fails to fit for one reason far more often than any other. The caliper fouls the inside of the wheel. Disc diameter is only half the question, because what matters is the shape of the space behind your spokes, and two wheels of the same stated size can differ by more than a centimetre where it counts.
So before you order, send us a photograph of the wheel face and, if you can, one of the back of the spokes. Give us the size and the offset if you know it. That takes about a minute and it settles the question properly.
Spacers can create clearance, but they also change the track and hub loading. Send the wheel details before assuming they are the answer.
Big brake kits and braking components are custom hand made to order and are therefore non returnable due to the specialist nature of the products. Payment is what starts that build. Get the fitment confirmed on the phone first, on 0115 9893488, rather than finding out afterwards.
Which brand, and what each is good at
Start with the brands that make a kit for your car, then compare disc size, caliper depth and price.
01Hi Spec
Our largest range at around 1,580 products, and British made. The one we point most people at when they want a serious upgrade without paying for the name on the caliper.
02Brembo
Around 1,400 products, and the brand most people arrive having already decided on. Worth checking what else fits your car before you commit, because the alternatives are often closer than expected.
03TAROX
Just under 900 products, and strong on discs and pads as well as full kits. The straightforward route if you want more braking without a full caliper conversion.
04D2, K Sport and Smarts4You
The smaller ranges, around 110 products between them. Worth checking if your car is awkward, because their coverage does not always overlap with the big three.
Ordering, delivery and what happens next
Confirm the fitment
Ring 0115 9893488 or message us with the car, the year and the wheel size. On a made to order kit this is the step that matters, because the build starts when you pay.
Order and pay
Card, PayPal, Klarna, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Amazon Pay, Super Payments or bank transfer. UK delivery is free over £100. See payment and finance.
Track it
An email and an SMS arrive with your five digit invoice number and an estimated date. We run a full track and trace on all pending orders every Monday and pass on what the manufacturer tells us.
Take delivery
Most orders arrive as one package. Where a component becomes available ahead of the rest we may send it separately and will tell you at dispatch. Delivery can go to a garage if that suits better.
Common questions
How do I know a kit will clear my wheels?â–¾
Send us a photograph of the wheel face and the back of the spokes along with the size, and we will tell you. Diameter on its own is not enough, because a 330mm disc can foul a 17 inch wheel with deep spokes while clearing a shallower one. This is the single most common reason a kit turns out to be wrong.
What is the difference between a big brake kit and a big disc kit?â–¾
A big brake kit replaces the calipers as well as the discs, with new bells, lines and mounting brackets as one vehicle specific package. A big disc kit fits larger discs to your original calipers. The disc kit is cheaper and much less involved, and on a lot of fast road cars it is enough.
Do I need to upgrade the rear brakes too?â–¾
Usually not. Most of the braking is done at the front, and front only conversions are designed with that in mind. Where it matters is on a car that is already close to locking the rears, or where you are chasing a specific balance for competition. Ring us if you are unsure rather than buying both ends by default.
How long does an order take?â–¾
It depends on the product. Stocked discs and pads move in days. Big brake kits and braking components are largely custom hand made to order and run to several weeks. Send us the product code before you buy and we will give you a realistic date for that item.
Are the kits returnable?â–¾
Kits built to order are not, because they are made for your vehicle once you order. Stocked items in unused, as new condition and original packaging can come back within 14 days. Check the returns page before ordering.
How do I track my order?â–¾
You get an email and an SMS with a five digit invoice number shortly after ordering. We also run a full track and trace on every pending order each Monday and pass on whatever the manufacturer tells us, rather than leaving you to chase.
Can you send the brakes to my garage?â–¾
Yes. Put the garage or workshop address in as the delivery address at checkout.
Do you fit brakes?â–¾
No. We supply rather than fit. We will work out what suits the car and what else has to change, then you or your garage do the install.
Which brand should I buy?â–¾
It depends more on what fits your car than on the badge. Hi Spec is British made and our biggest range. Brembo is the name everybody knows. TAROX is strong on discs and pads if you want a step up without a full conversion. Find your car first, then choose between whatever is actually made for it.
Is delivery free?â–¾
Free on UK orders over £100, which most brake kits clear comfortably. International orders are quoted individually, so ask before you order.
Send us a photo of your wheel
Send the car, wheel size and a photograph of the spokes. We will check clearance and narrow the kit list to the way you use it.
