Our Top Recommended Big Brake Upgrade Kits For Your Nissan Sunny
Nissan sold the same homologation rally car under two names. In Japan it was the Pulsar GTI-R, in the UK and Europe it was the Sunny GTI-R, and the two are mechanically the same car with a different badge on the boot. Tarox’s own catalogue reflects this directly: the 315mm 6pot Sport kit is listed once for the Pulsar and once for the Sunny, same disc, same caliper, same price, filed under our Nissan Sunny category either way.
That is only half the page, though, because “Sunny” also covers the ordinary front-wheel-drive family car most of these cars started life as. The standard Sunny takes HiSpec’s 285mm and 300mm Billet 4 kits; the GTI-R gets its own 310mm two-piece listing built for the wider, four-wheel-drive front end. Check which Sunny is sitting on your driveway before ordering, and if you are not certain, ring us and we will confirm it before anything ships. The full Sunny range is on the site if you want to browse it raw.
- Every kit on this page converts the front axle: calipers, discs, brackets and fitting hardware specific to the Nissan Sunny
- Sunny GTI-R and Pulsar GTI-R are the same car under two names; Tarox list their 315mm kit for both
- The standard Sunny and the GTI-R take different HiSpec kits, so confirm which car you have before ordering
- Nothing on this page needs more than 17 inch wheels, so the biggest kit here still clears standard-size alloys

Two brands, two ways of building a brake kit
Both companies machine their own calipers from billet aluminium and build each kit for the specific car. The difference comes down to two things: what is in the box, and where the work is done.
Tarox
Made at the Tarox factory in northern Italy. Calipers CNC machined from European billet alloy and hand assembled, each one individually tested before dispatch. Every disc is heat treated, CNC faced and hand balanced to 0.05mm. Both Sunny kits arrive complete with vehicle-specific braided hoses and Corsa pads already fitted, and both state full ABS and ESP compatibility.
HiSpec Motorsport
Machined in Dartford from 6082 T6 billet aluminium, calipers and pistons both. Every kit is made to order in up to 28 working days, with the calipers finished in your choice of black, red, blue, gold or silver. Pads and braided hoses are priced separately so you choose the compound for the way the car is used.
One external link worth bookmarking for Tarox: their wheel clearance template is the definitive check for spoke depth once you have the minimum diameter sorted.
The number that decides it: your wheel size
A bigger disc means a bigger minimum wheel, and on the Sunny the range runs from 15 inch at the smallest to 17 inch at the top. Nothing here needs an 18 inch wheel, which matters on a car this age: you can get to the biggest kit on this page without moving off the sort of alloys a Sunny would already be wearing. HiSpec publish the wheel size for every kit direct from their own catalogue. The two Tarox figures were looked up individually on tarox.co.uk against the Sunny’s own KM part codes, because Tarox state a minimum wheel size per kit, not per disc size.
| Kit | Disc | Smallest wheel |
|---|---|---|
| HiSpec 285mm Billet 4 | 285mm | 15 inch |
| Tarox 285mm Sport Compact | 285 x 22mm | 15 inch |

| HiSpec 325mm Monster 6 | 325mm | 17 inch |
| HiSpec 335mm Monster 4 | 335mm | 17 inch |

| Tarox 315mm Sport | 315 x 26mm | 17 inch |
HiSpec 285mm Billet 4: the entry point on standard wheels
If the Sunny is on its standard wheels and staying there, this is the pick. The Billet 4 is HiSpec’s most popular caliper: four pistons machined from 6082 T6 billet aluminium with external boots on the seals to keep road grit out. On a 285mm disc it is a proper step up from the standard set-up and clears a 15 inch wheel with room to spare.
This is the standard front-drive Sunny listing, not the GTI-R version. If the car is a GTI-R, the 310mm kit further down this page is built for the wider four-wheel-drive front end and is the one to order instead.

The entry Tarox for the Sunny, and the easiest buy on this page if you want the whole job in one delivery. A four or six piston billet caliper (Tarox’s B280/B30) on a 285mm single piece cast disc, Corsa pads already fitted and braided hoses in the box. Clears the same 15 inch wheel as the HiSpec 285mm above.
Both this and the HiSpec 285mm reach the same disc size and the same wheel clearance. The choice comes down to what you want in the box on day one: HiSpec is cheaper before you add pads and hoses, Tarox is cheaper once you have added them, because they are already fitted. Compare finished builds, not headline prices, and the box comparison further down this page walks through it properly.
- £1,889.57 inc VAT, complete with pads and braided hoses fitted
- Clears 15 inch wheels
- 285mm single piece disc, heat treated and hand balanced
- Four or six piston billet caliper, hand assembled in Italy
- Full ABS and ESP compatibility stated
HiSpec 300mm and the GTI-R 310mm: two different cars, two different kits
These two sit at the same 16 inch wheel size, but they are not interchangeable. The 300mm Billet 4 is the standard front-drive Sunny kit, same caliper as the 285mm above on a bigger disc. The 310mm is built specifically for the Sunny GTI-R, on a wider four-wheel-drive front hub, with a two piece floating disc instead of the standard one.
Worth flagging plainly: the GTI-R kit is actually the cheaper of the two, at £1,254.77 against £1,464.00 for the standard 300mm, despite the bigger disc and the two piece construction. Both prices are correct on our own listings, not a typo on our side. If you are cross-shopping the two, the GTI-R kit is not an option unless the car actually is a GTI-R, so the price difference is not a straight upgrade path, just a fact worth knowing.
- 300mm standard Sunny at £1,464.00 inc VAT; 310mm GTI-R 2P at £1,254.77 inc VAT
- Both clear 16 inch wheels
- 300mm single disc on standard Billet 4; 310mm two piece floating disc, GTI-R specific
- Pads and hoses priced separately on both

£2,045.00 Incl. VAT£1,704.17 Excl. VAT Select options
The biggest Tarox kit for the Sunny, and the one built around the GTI-R and Pulsar GTI-R’s shared underpinnings. Six piston B32 caliper on a 315mm two piece disc, balanced to 0.05mm, with Corsa pads fitted at the factory and braided hoses in the box. Clears a 17 inch wheel.
This is the kit Tarox list twice: once under Nissan Sunny, once under Nissan Pulsar, at an identical price with the identical parts. We link the Sunny listing here since that is the badge on a UK car, but if you ever see the Pulsar version quoted elsewhere it is the same kit.
- £2,045.00 inc VAT, complete with pads and braided hoses fitted
- Clears 17 inch wheels
- 315mm two piece disc, balanced to 0.05mm
- Six piston B32 billet caliper, hand assembled in Italy
- Also listed under Nissan Pulsar; identical kit, same price
HiSpec 335mm Monster 6: the flagship at 17 inches
The Monster caliper uses a longer pad than the Billet 4, with high temperature EPDM seals and stainless steel wear plates. The Monster 6 is the six piston version, and on the 335mm disc it is the most stopping power HiSpec offer for the Sunny. It clears the same 17 inch wheel as the smaller Monster kits and the Tarox 315mm.
Garreth’s money on a Sunny doing proper track use goes here or on the Tarox 315mm. Which of the two comes down to whether pads and hoses fitted from the factory are worth the difference to you, since the Monster 6 needs them added separately.
- £1,773.00 inc VAT
- Clears 17 inch wheels
- 335mm two piece floating disc, 6 piston Monster 6 caliper
- High temperature EPDM seals and stainless steel wear plates

More options at 17 inches
Three more HiSpec kits sit in the same 17 inch bracket as the Monster 6 and Tarox 315mm. The 325mm Monster 4 and Monster 6 use a slightly smaller disc than the 335mm pair, at £1,596.00 and £1,683.00 inc VAT. The 335mm Monster 4 is the four piston version of the flagship kit above, at £1,650.00 inc VAT, a middle step between the 325mm kits and the Monster 6. All three clear the same 17 inch wheel as everything else in this bracket, so the choice between them is about caliper size and budget, not fitment.

What is actually in each box
The headline prices sit further apart than the finished builds do once you spec them level. Add pads and braided hoses to the HiSpec side and the gap with the Tarox kits narrows considerably. Compare finished builds, not the headline numbers.

Common questions
Are the Sunny GTI-R and Pulsar GTI-R really the same car?
Mechanically, yes. Nissan built the same homologation rally car for two markets: Pulsar GTI-R in Japan, Sunny GTI-R in the UK and Europe. Tarox's own catalogue treats them as the same fitment, which is why their 315mm 6pot Sport kit is listed once under each name at the same price with the same parts.
How do I know if my Sunny is the GTI-R or the standard car?
The GTI-R is four-wheel drive, turbocharged and was only built for a few years as a homologation special, so it is a distinctive car, not a trim level on an everyday Sunny. If there is any doubt, tell us the registration or the engine code when you ring on 0115 9893488 and we will confirm which kits actually fit before you order.
Why is the GTI-R 310mm kit cheaper than the standard 300mm kit?
Both prices are correct on our own listings, not a mistake on our end. It is not a fair straight comparison either way, because the two kits fit different versions of the Sunny and are not interchangeable. If your car is the standard front-drive Sunny, the 300mm is the one that fits; the GTI-R kit is not an option regardless of price.
Why are pads and hoses extra on the HiSpec kits?
HiSpec price their kits without pads or hoses so you choose the compound. A street pad and a track pad are very different things, and the right choice depends on how and where the car is used. Both pads and braided hoses can be added when you order, and we will put the finished build price together so you are comparing like for like against the Tarox kits.
Will these kits work with ABS and ESP on the Sunny?
Tarox state full ABS and ESP compatibility on both Sunny kits. For HiSpec, the fitment is to the front hub and does not touch the ABS sensor or reluctor ring, so compatibility on a standard car should be fine. If your Sunny has had any non-standard ABS modifications, tell us when you order and we will check with HiSpec before the kit goes to build.
What we would actually fit
On a standard Sunny keeping its own wheels, the 285mm Billet 4 is the sensible entry point, and the Tarox Sport Compact is the pick if you want pads and hoses sorted in one delivery for the same 15 inch clearance. On 16s, Garreth’s answer for a standard car is the 300mm Billet 4; for a GTI-R it is the 310mm 2P kit built for that car specifically, which happens to be the better priced of the two as well.
For a GTI-R or Pulsar GTI-R doing proper track use, the Tarox 315mm is the complete kit at 17 inch with nothing left to add, and the HiSpec 335mm Monster 6 is the flagship if you would rather spec your own pads. The Monster 4 and 325mm kits sit as sensible middle steps for anything between a fast road car and a track regular.
Ring us on 0115 9893488 with which Sunny you actually have, the wheel size, and what the car does at weekends. Confirming standard against GTI-R is a short conversation, and checking spoke clearance on a specific wheel is Cameron’s side of the business. Most calls like this are done inside five minutes.
